This is a paradoxical question. You're wanting to input settings into your HD without actually having the device hooked to a computer, but the settings you're after require a computer with an internet connection, so you must have a computer available? And one modern enough to have a network connection. So why not just hook the device into the computer? Or if I'm also not understanding the question, download some patches from custom-tone or wherever else, and use HD Edit in offline mode, since the device is not hooked to the computer, and manually enter what you see using HD Edit. Or is the HD and the computer in separate locations? If that's the case, I guess the best you could do would be to take screenshots of HD Edit and print them out for later use.

Who would like a Line6 FRFR Cab specially for Helix?
duncann replied to Paolo_Maina's topic in Helix
Ha. If something like that actually existed, I can think of tons of things such technology could be better used for than modeling, for real and in real space, an amp and cab in the room. For example, why go through the hassle of picking up your guitar to play it anymore? Just model, for real, the experience of picking up your guitar and playing it, because before you've modeled this experience, you've modeled, for real, you're own self; not a clone, but actually you. Wait a minute, has reality just changed? -
Nice. Here's a bit of info you could use for this: http://line6.com/support/topic/16618-links-to-original-modeled-fx-manuals-and-specs/

I never got that updater message. But if I remember correctly, the v1.07 Update app was released about a week later after firmware v1.06.0, and may have had something to do with firmware v1.06.2 for Helix Rack.

The Tube Drive and Line 6 Drive were my favorites from the HD as well. I bought the full bundle when I got these because I wanted the bass pack and at least one from the metal pack, so it made sense to just get them all. From the metal pack, the 5150 is really, really good. Can't go wrong for what you're asking for. Haven't messed too much with the other amps in this pack but the Shiva and JCM800 I'm sure will also suit your needs, maybe more so than the 5150. All the Line 6 Original amps are older technology that's ported over from an older device, the X3 or XT, can't remember. Most of these are really heavy sounding, over-the-top, and exaggerated at what they do.

Q for L6 developers: How did amp emulation detail improve from Pod>HD>Helix ?
duncann replied to d0stenning's topic in Helix
I wouldn't expect anyone from Line 6 to start discussing their trade secrets. But Digital_Igloo might chime in with some vague, generalized concepts about this. Who knows? -
Same here.

I don't recall seeing any marketing from Line 6 stating or even suggesting that Helix would be the banishment of older gear. Maybe for some people, sure. Not me. I have to keep my HD around because Helix currently can't do some things the HD can, effects-wise. Helix has the same DSP as Fractal Audio's AX8. If you consider the number of amps a factor that places a product like Helix in the category of the best, then certainly Helix is a failure as compared to other units. Have you seen the amp list on the Axe FX? That's a monster that scares me, and would make me actually think about not buying one because of too many amps. I think Line 6 did a good job, struck a good balance, of covering most of the guitar tones you can make with a moderate amount of amps. I suspect most people end up using just a handful of amps once they find their favorites. I'm sure making amp models is not easy and takes a lot of time; somewhere around a month I remember reading. I think that time would be better spent filling actual, big holes that exist, in the effects category. But, Line 6 also listens to it customers as a collective. So have no fear that when a nobody such as me, on their forum, voices that Helix has enough amps, it's not going to affect their plans in any way at all. Amps are a popular thing with units like this, and that's what will mostly count in the end.

Maybe it's obvious, but If you use an IR with the HD, make sure to select No Cab on the HD.

"crossover" distortion gone or am I imagining things?
duncann replied to audionutmike's topic in Helix
It's a very subtle crackling type sound overlaying the rest of the tone that seems out of place, doesn't fit, or shouldn't be there. A good way to get an exaggerated sense of this is if you have a bass guitar with an active EQ. Put a very weak battery in there and then listen to what that sounds like. It's similar to the crossover distortion. Some people can't seem to hear this. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. It's very subtle, and if you can hear it, it's easily ignorable, at least for me. -
I like this idea, because when scrolling through the amp/effect lists and having it automatically change slows the selection process down and makes it cumbersome. Not only that, but if you want to see what's further down the list, off screen, you have no choice but to change the current amp/effect, losing any custom tweaks to that block, unless you remembered to copy that block first. Voted!

Preamp is a real thing. The preamp feeds into the power amp if you're using a full amp model. The page missing, he meant the controls that affect the power amp, which are master volume, sag, hum, bias, and bias excursion; these are missing on the 'pre' version of the amp. When you're looking to make a tone, try not to think of the pre and non-pre models as the same thing with the only difference being one is missing a power amp. Both versions of any given amp are unique and can sound very different from each other. In fact, now that I think of it, the pre versions might be easier to tweak because you don't have the extra power amp controls.

The Mutant Filter is an auto-wah. And the new Auto Filter seems to be the Mutant Filter that's easier to tweak with more parameters exposed. I think when DrFishhead mentioned an envelope filter, what might have been meant is an Auto Everything. This would really open Helix up to do so much more than it can right now. I hope it's at least in Line 6's top ten list of priorities.

It doesn't work with some of the outputs. Not entirely sure which ones, but one of the Line 6 outputs rings a bell, and possibly USB.

I've had this problem with my 500X numerous times. Keep trying multiple times, it will eventually calibrate properly. Maybe slightly tighten the allen-bolt to give the pedal more resistance. It will loosen over time slightly. Try and blow some of the dust, if any, out of and around the pedal area.

+1! Enough with the amps! I realize they are a popular thing, but I never did and never will understand the need for redundant amps. It gets in the way of decision making when making a patch.

Re-visit - does anyone not also hope for Auto engage wah pedal
duncann replied to sonikimage's topic in Helix
It would be a nice feature to have, but probably low on the priority list. Although I don't imagine it would be hard to implement. In the meantime you could toggle it via a switch or the pedal switch (never liked this way myself, I like using a non-pedal switch). Or don't even use a toggle switch and set the minimum for position and mix so that with the pedal in the heel position the wah is essentially off. -
Assuming the tuner is accurate, it would be interesting to find out if changing just the graphics of the tuner would change some people's perceptions of it. For example, having huge blocks, like it is now, might give the perception that the tuner is not as accurate as it could be, or just slightly off. Could simply putting smaller, and more, graphical bars in there change that?

Listening to some of your soundcloud stuff, you sure do like your distortion. You make some unique stuff. A lot of it could be a good example of garage-rock tone! You're phrasing of distortion reminds me of Steve Ballmer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhh_GeBPOhs

Lol. What a jackass. Maybe he needs some accidents happening to his equipment...

Check your volume levels in Windows 10's mixer and the levels for the default playback device (sound card) by right-clicking the speaker icon by the clock.

PROCEDURE FOR ASSIGNING MULTIPLE BLOCKS TO A FOOTSWITCH
duncann replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
When multiple blocks are assigned to one switch and you want to know what controls the state of the led, it will be the block selected from the blocks assigned to that switch. So in between step 6 and step 7 of HonestOpinion's procedure, do another tap procedure similar to step 6, but this time the objective is to just select the block you want controlling the led.- 15 replies

The pedal won't work globally. But there is the global option mentioned earlier, so that every patch that has a volume block in it will be affected by that option. You can place a volume block anywhere you want. In fact, if you wanted thirty-two volume blocks in one patch :D , you could do that too, although there'd be no room for anything else.

If you're using powered studio monitors, how is whatever internal/external soundcard you're using now not loud enough? Or do you have other speakers you're using when not using the HD? You might be able to dual purpose your monitor speakers as I notice they have both XLR and 1/4". So hook the HD using the XLR and use your current soundcard to hook into the 1/4" - which would probably require a customized cable(s).

I think the weak point in the saving is when you want to save a preset to a new location; this is where a lock feature would be useful. For the same location, you get used to just hitting save twice. You get used to that because you're most likely to be saving presets in the same location more frequently than choosing a new location, at least I am anyway. But when selecting a new location with the sometimes overly sensitive encoders, it gets a little stumbly. Since you're used to hitting save twice quickly, and because of the sensitive encoders, you almost immediately (but too late) realize that the wrong location was selected! With any luck, it was only over a blank preset.
