  1. Uhm, monstrous based on what? Apple's claims? I'd be curious as to where you arrived at that conclusion myself.
  2. C'est la vie but then, my Android devices "just work" too. What sometimes gauls me about some Apple folks is the elitist attitudes. As if. But we won't do that schtick here, OK? Mostly, it's entertaining and sort of reminiscent of the VHS - BetaMax wars of the 80s lol...
  3. I have a number of "Apple People" in my life while I use (and love) Android based devices. One thing I know for sure with these folks is that Apple markets to people who don't want to deep think their phones. At all. Ever. If it doesn't slap them in the face, they get lost. My question to them is always this; "If Apple products are so wonerfully easy to use, why are you asking me how to do anything?" As far as THIS situation goes, well to me a product like this belongs in the Apple realm and not the Android universe and it is being marketed at a "certain demographic".
  4. Princeton Reverb...34 pounds of Fender goodness.
  5. Well that's mighty benvolent of them. After all, the world is Apple's oyster :P
  6. Honestly? I think that while technology, and Line6 in particular has afforded us guitar players many cool toys to play with, I am really glad I was born in the 1950s. I say that with the utmost respect for all players of all gear and all stylers mind you. I LIKE Line6 gear and the company "spirit" of innovation. But here's the thing for me and it's why I have a love hate relationship with my HD500 and JTV59 Variax as well; One of the beauties of playing a guitar is the simple act of plugging it into my favorite amp, or maybe through a pedal or 3 and just playing it. No digital menus. No fiddling with knobs and dials and stuff -- just playing my guitar and hearing the pure majesty of the sound as it blooms from my amp. I value this experience because I program and otherwise do battle with computers for a living, and I loved doing it before that all the way back to my Atari 800XL bought in 1983. I got into computers because it was a Black Art and I was one of a very few people who could do it at the time. In other words, it was COOL. Like playing my guitar was COOL. So as technology continues to try and separate me from that purity by introducing (and damn near requiring!) computers, and now smartphones and tablets just to get to the "patch editor" and twiddle knobs, dials and manipulate digital menuing just to get where I used to get by the simple of plugging in and rocking out -- it makes me a bit mellancholy. I have this digital gear for those times when I want to experiment with alternate tunings, alien amplifiers I don't own and never had access too and to see exactly why someone would want a ring modulator or whatever. I DO have fun doing that too mind you, but it is definitely NOT the same experience as guitar->amp->rock either. Flexibility such as comes with my Line6 gear has it's own pricetag, after all. So let me shed a manly tear for bygone days, and lament that I now can get an amp that runs on an i-anything. *SNIFF* :(

  8. Those Trademark amps are pretty excellent in their own right too, BTW. I had a Trademark 10, but I sold it and now wish I hadn't. Stupid.
  9. Everything in engineering is a trade off, and DSP is no exception. There is only so much power in a chipset. So the choice then becomes do we just never do a dual tone configuation (in my experience where DSP limit is reached 99% of the time) or do we allow it, but impose the DSP limit on the most resource intensive implementations of dual tone? Clearly, Line 6 chose to allow it with limitations imposed. Price is another engineering tradeoff because the chipset they chose fit the (likely) marketing imposed price ceiling, at the expense of having less power. There could very well be DSP units around that nobody coould ever overwhelm, but then too they could costs way more $$$. All of course IMHO.
  10. Personally, I think the chances of that sort of an update hover just above zero. The HD product line is stable and mature and with the "x" series having come and gone with no new models added, I suspect they will not go there.
  11. Is your amp/line switch on your POD set to line?
  12. I have followed a Fender oriented forum for many years, and they have a practice of localized "jams" that members geographically comfortable co-located do from time to time. I've been to the of those and they were fun and I met some cool people. I'm not saying we should, but I also can't see why we couldn't perhaps arrange something similar one fine summer day.
  13. It's almost always better to hang loose around NAMM week lol...I've had more of my gear obsoleted at that event than I can recall!
  14. Lol, I think this is how conspiracy theories start! Gotta say I haven't put that much thought into this because it'll be known next week but hey, I'll check back to see if you are spot on sir! Good stuff...
  15. I wish I could give you a dozen reputation points for that incredibly helpful post. Thank you edstar1960 for summing that up so beautifully! I did actually roll back to v1.19 for a while last night and played with my own favorite models (T-model, Spank, Lester, Chime) and also the acoustic models which have always seemed difficult to use effectively. I don't gig at present, but I am trying to pull together a solo looping act for open mics and such... Just because it is fun. I really didn't hear anything groundbreaking after about an hour or so, and so I rolled back without issue. Sounds like I am really glad I didn't hit any snags there. I haven't used the Variax workbench much, but when I did I was less than impressed by the process involved with the dongle thingie so if I get more involved with that, I may be tempted to roll back again. I have a POD HD500 as well, with a JTV59 but have had no popping issues. Thanks again for the information, and if it isn't already stickied somewhere, perhaps it ought to be!
  16. Resurrecting an older thread...wondering if the folks that rolled back stayed or updated their firmware to 2.00? Since I am relatively new to the Variax thing (Oct 2012) I don't really at this point see a need to rollback, so can anyone tell me WHY I might want to?
  17. Personally, I use the Graphic EQ to smooth out the low end of my Variax guitar before it hits the Amp block. Helps a lot. Others would be good for the same purpose but in my opinion, it is YOUR opinion of the results that matter. Generally speaking: - Graphic EQ gives you 5 bands of adjustment surrounding 5 fixed frequencies (80hz, 220hz, 480hz, 1.1khz, 2.2 khz) - Parametric EQ is similar, except it allows you to adjust the center frequency and width (Q) of it - Studio EQ gives you a basic Low/High (bass treble) with the abilty to adjust the centers and gain of each - Not really familiar with a shift EQ, sorry - Mid Focus EQ basically channels the Midrange through while setting the upper/lower frequency limits Hope some of that helps, and I am NO expert...just a user.
  18. So THIS is where topics go (or are sent) to die! I always wondered about that, kind of like the elephant graveyard.
  19. The thing to know about the amp setting is that it tries to compensate for the non Full Range Full Spectrum (FRFS) nature of guitar amps whose sound is focused largely towards the midrange. As such, to me it always sounds like a blanket has been thrown oever my sound if I select "Amp" as opposed to "Line".
  20. Heck, I forgot this place existed...sorry for posting in the wrong place folks. Still, this is a good question worth discussing.
  21. There is a switch (several actually) on top on the unit right of the display label 1/4" Out where you can select Line or Amp. Take line. If that doesn't work, I'm fresh out of ideas at this point.
  22. There is a jack on the back panel labeled "Phones" I believe. BTW, turn DOWN the volume before you put your phones on and raise the Master slowly to taste. Tinnitus sucks.
  23. I think the upshot of this thread is that nobody knows what it is yet
