  1. I have what is a big "no no" I am sure, but everything has worked, but last two gigs have been not so good. I have a rack with my stagescape M20d, a Mac mini, an airport express router, a relay g55 receiver for bass, and a xd-v75 receiver for mic. And, (I know...bad bad bad), two wireless Shure IEM transmitters. Everything always works great at soundcheck. No problems, and I can go across the room with no drop outs. Room was about a quarter full with people. (Last night that would be about 25 people in a 125 person pub). We start our night, all good. I use dmxis on my macmini to control lights, and I remote with my ipad. I often don't have the ipad connected to the Mac mini because I only have a few light presets I step back and forth with a foot pedal so I don't need to see the program. About the third set of four, with the pub FULL, the sound/connectivity was still going very well. I lost my place in my light program so I quickly connected to the Mac mini to see what was up with dmxis. When I did, I started getting interference in my IEM's, and the g55 started having dropouts. Meter on front going crazy (signal bar up and down). The mic was fine (xd-v75). The iPads connect to the 5GHz network. But, being an airport express, I cannot turn off the 2.4GHz. Does anyone know if that was the problem? I have both transmitters in rf1 mode (to be honest, I will have to check the g55. It was in rf1, but I did change batteries after sound check, but before the start of the first set...would it default back to rf2?). Because the problem happened exactly when I connected the ipad to the mac, I am wondering if something "woke up"? The ipad was already connected to the network. We have 4 iPads connected all night to the 5GHz network. Aside from moving the IEM's transmitters (which didn't seem to be a problem), can anyone explain what may have been going on? Seems wifi related more than a "transmitter/receiver in the same rack" problem. Edit: in the fourth set, things had gone back to very acceptable. The problem was somewhat short lived, and settled right down once I closed the VNC program. I think I had one small drop out which was not noticed by anyone.
  2. I too dream of this set up! Each time it begins to creep to the top of my mind, I schedule a session with my counsellor! For me, my sound/band/and lighting is all a hobby. I kid my self and say that it pays for itself. Pretty sure the "costs" are kicking the crap out of the "income"! But I really enjoy it!
  3. As for pole type, it will depend on where you have it. I have used them on a stage, and just set the L3T on the L3s (mine didn't move, but a short pole would be recommended. On the floor, I ise the long line6 pole, but, I still feel it is just a little on the short side. But it is what I use. If you have the space, you could get a nice crank stand. Lower to it it on the pole, but able to crank to the height you want. It osnt too much of a struggle to get it on the long line6 pole. I usually use the sub in its "upright" position. Mostly due to space, and to have the L3t at a height I can accept. And yes, I have used the subs right on the stage. Something I would have never done with an LS801! Partly because of the "boomy" you are familiar with, and partly because they are so darn heavy!
  4. The l3s is an extension of the L3t and makes a great, and complete, "speaker". The L3T is great on its own, but together, with the L3s you have the best sound. You don't get the "boomy" you are thinking of. You can, but it is easy to take out and you are left with a beautiful, tight sound. And by "take out" I don't mean "hunt down the frequency". Just try some different presets, and you will probably be okay, or, in tweak mode slide you finger around, and failing that....there is the EQ, but I will be surprised if you need it. You will find a great sound with the combination of the speakers. Buy and enjoy!
  5. Glad it is all going smoothly for you Larry. You will probably have findings similar to mine. The main one being that even if other sound systems could sound as good, there is yet to be one so easy to set up and run....to my knowledge.
  6. I went from presonus 16.4.2 and very decent yorkville speakers, to the line 6 speakers and m20d. Things have never sounded so good, and with such little effort. I have bounced around different speakers and combinations, and always been satisfied, but often thought about what I had...and I actually did a complete circle at one point. And still wondered if I did the right move. With the line 6 gear, I haven't even thought about what I had. It is all good.
  7. It will be "set and forget". As long as no router reset is done (generally with a long, hardware button press. So consider it "set and forget".
  8. I think this thread has gone in some mixed ways. I was onboard with some issues with monitor sends and FX levels. My issue was, and some issues in this thread, was that when coming back to the board, and powering it up, there were FX, and quite a bit (at the "0db" level) added to the monitor sends which were not part of the scene or set up that was active when the board was powered down, I discovered that I could, finally, recreate this issue. It was confirmed to me by Arne of line 6, that there is a bug that may set the FX to monitors to the 0db level on a power up cycle. If you load a setup, or a scene, the monitor FX that were saved, do com back as they were. My issue was, that sometimes, because if am using it usually with one band, I would not load my set up or scene as it was the same venue and band, so all was saved. So I did have am issue with reverb, and lots of it, coming through my monitor mix. If this sounds like the same problem any of you are having, Line6 is now aware of it and working on a fix. But, you can work around this by being sure to load your previous setup, and scene, or, by double checking your FX to monitor settings. I have had no problems with the monitor FX being saved properly to the setups or scenes, or recalling them. But, again, when powering up the board, there is a bug that adds FX to the monitor sends. Easy to work around now that I am aware of it.
  9. I took a quick look, but didn't see it. Is this difference on the meters as well? Or just in the headphones? I have issues with the headphones and losing a side, or having it go lower on one side....and I have read that others have had this issue too. And I am sure it is not hardware issue. I have noticed it when listening to all tracks being played at once, or listening to audio tracks being played from my computer through the board. Only in the headphones. The main outs and aux outs are fine. If this isn't your issue, then ignore this. I don't want to sidetrack things. There is another thread on the headphone issue.
  10. I remember this problem. I think the answer is here - http://line6.com/support/topic/83-playing-canned-music-from-sd-card/?hl=%2Bmedia+%2Bplayer&do=findComment&comment=295 It's a mac thing I believe. I had the problem, but not anymore.
  11. That came to mind, but I thought there was a disruption in the sound momentarily with a scene change too. Good to know. I still thinks some things could be separated, but if understand that many would like it as it is. And if I sat and brainstormed it, I could think of reasons to leave it as it is. Reasons come to me as I type this, as well as reasons why it shouldn't be an issue any away. Could Eden save the set up with no effects or EQ if desired. See? I am convincing myself right now....I have these kind of debates all the time!
  12. I have heard of this in another post. But I have never had a problem, and assume I won't. LDBecker, I am sure you read far more posts about the 16.4.2 with its power supply problem. I know it made me think long and hard before I bought my 16.4.2. I was nervous every gig I played for some time. Then one day it happened....not at a gig fortunately, but at home when I was preparing for the weekend. Mine wasn't the power supply. A local, warranty qualified tech went over a lot of soldering for me. And the it worked great for another year, and probably still is. I traded it in on my M20d. I liked my presonus, but more than anything, I wanted a smaller footprint. 16.4.2 is pretty big. Very big in comparison to the M20d. Anyway, my point is, the problems with the m20d are far fewer than what I read about for the presonus board. But we still went for it, knowing, that very likely, the problem was limited to just a few, and many many others you don't even hear from. More importantly, if there is a problem, it will be dealt with promptly it seems. I wouldn't let it hold you back. You will love it!
  13. Well maybe the boards can ship with a little plastic toothpick, with a line 6 logo....but it could be called a "mic jack calibrator"?
  14. I think I read it was 15? But I am always reading about other digital boards, so I may be confused. (Don't worry Line 6....I look at other women too but that doesn't mean I have plans of leaving the one I am with.....)
  15. To me, there is not much that distinguishes the set up from the scene. The idea is, the set up is what you would use for a group, or act. For example, I have a set up I use for my band. We have two guitar players we alternate between. One sings, one doesn't. I have a set up that I use for each. Then, for each room we play in, I have a scene. So I load the set up based on the version of the band we have at that gig, and then a scene for the venue we are in. The scene is what would have the EQ I set IP last time we were there, and the FX (more or less reverb for example, again, based on the venue). If we haven't played there before, I will save our settings as a new scene. Some people use different scenes throughout the night. If they have songs where they want more reverb, or delay for example. A footswitch will let you step through scenes. In the manual, it tells you what is saved in each...and I read it over and over and I think it is pretty much the same. I just posted above, that I feel the set up should have far less. Inputs, trim level, icons. FX, and eq should be the scene. But, no harm in having more than you need on this case.
  16. I was playing around with my settings to try and replicate this problem. I seemed to be able to do it now, and I sent a long winded message to Arne and he said he would see if he could. I am away now, but will try this again when I am back at my board in a few days. First and most important, is the " set up" and "scene" differences. FX can be saved in a setup, and in a scene. I really don't like this. I think set up should be limited to inputs, and trim....that kind of stuff. FX and EQ should be in the scene....but everyone is different and I can easily make do. Anyway, I discovered that my usual "set up" and my usual "scene" had FX levels at different settings. And it turned out my "set up" had FX on the monitors. Some of my confusion may have been if I just loaded the "set up" and looked at monitor FX, they were there. Loading the a"scene" of course, removed them. I generally play with only one band, so the set up is the same, and the scene rarely changes much either. So I messed around and saved a scene and a set up, being extra careful that there was no FX on the monitor mixes (and unlinked). I had been doing this from my ipad. I was not satisfied that this "set up" and "scene" confusion was my problem. When this problem happens to me, the FX level is at the EXACT same level on all monitor sends. And when I have used FX on monitor sends, it is NEVER all the EXACT same level to each monitor. And with this problem, it is only the first two FX on the board. I have left all the default FX on the board. So the first two are both reverbs. I have not used the room reverb at all, so absolutely no reason this should be on anything, much less the monitors. So, I went to my board, powered it off, waited a couple minutes, and turned it on. I pressed the monitor hardware button, then pressed the "FX to monitor button and Aha! There it was. The EXACT same level of FX on each monitor mix. So, I loaded my set up....no FX on monitor, and then I loaded my scene....no FX on monitor. Waited about 30seconds. Powered board off....powered board on, and there they were again! FX to monitors at the EXACT same levels again. The way I will try this again...and I will video it....will be like this: Turn board on. Load set up (double check FX to monitors are off) and press save. Load scene, (again double check FX to monitors are off), and press save, then, wait about 30seconds and power off. Power on, and see. Hopefully Arne has tried this now, and hopefully has seen it. But maybe some others can try it too. If it doesn't happen, and you are sure it has before, try again another day. I did it about 3 times in a row. Maybe I'm just a crazy Canuck!
  17. I have definitely saved some custom presets, but did not know about changing the icon, or dragging them into the gallery. That's great. Really like seeing videos. Always something to learn!
  18. I also use the airport express and have had no disconnection problems. I am just starting to look, but is there a way to set the airport express to 5ghz only? Edit: looking at the post above this one more closely (actually finishing reading it ), I see there is no way?
  19. The belkin n600 will work. It is the router dboomer was speaking of connecting earlier in this post I believe. Your link took me to the belkin n600. Should be straightforward setup.
  20. The last time I tried to play music from my computer through the USB input on the M20d, I found there was a high latency even for the button pressing (play, stop, etc). Didn't matter once the music started of course, but I just ended up plugging my computer into the "auxillary in" plug (1/8 inch/3.5mm).
  21. Happened again. I didnt even reload a setup or scene. I just booted up the system and went to check the levels out of curiosity. All four monitor mixes had the exact same amount of the first two effects. Vocal reverb and room reverb. These happen to be the first two effects in the list of effects being used. I don't even use the room reverb and is always all the way down except when this "bug" decides to add it to my monitor mixes.
  22. Interesting points. And a lot of thought put into it. But when I think about it, it seems the M20d is doing the best possible work with feedback. Why do the speaker if the board has the ability to do all the mics? Even if it means 10 out of 12 have the same frequency notched out? Still leaves two unaffected. However, if we want to really think of unlikely situations, I guess if it notched the speaker when there were a majority of mics notched at the same frequency, it could release the mics, and they would have 12 frequencies available for being notched again. Does seem very unlikely. But I understand what you are thinking.....I think.
  23. I believe you have to select it as a "mic'd" instrument and have it plugged into a channel from 1-12. Then you can engage the FBS. Channels 13-16 don't have the FBS option. As well, I don't think the presets for "direct" instruments will allow you to engage the FBS.
  24. They haven't been able to reproduce it yet. That is what I read in one of the threads. Maybe this one up higher. I think it is a big too, but, can't fix what you can't see. I sometimes like to think there is not time as they are busy working on their new IEM system! Keeps me smiling!
