Well I'm no software expert, but it seems to me that the new firmware is either installed, or it isn't. Don't see how it would be possible for one group of patches to be running old firmware, while others have been upgraded. When I turn it on, it says 2.5...and all the new goodies are present and accounted for, as are all my existing patches and IR's.
-
I don't get it either...if everything is still intact, what's there to restore?
-
If it makes you guys feel any better, I downloaded the new editor first, but then flew right past doing a fresh update with it because I wasn't paying enough attention...fortunately, it didn't seem to make any difference. All the new stuff is here, and all of my patches are still intact, there was no need to restore anything from my last 2.3 backup. Helix is chugging along as expected. If it eats itself, I'll spread the word... but everything seems fine to me.

Except that there are evidently so many frothing at the mouth early adopters, that the rest of the site is largely inaccessible. Alas, I can gaze upon, but not enter the Promised Land...oh well, my reverbs will last another day or two. :P

Just don't moan in stereo, gents... you'll run out of DSP.ðŸ‘
-
So let me see if I've got this straight...you're moaning about moaners, who themselves were lamenting "original moans", if you will. I believe this qualifies as "moaning twice removed". If anything is deserving of applause, this is it! 😂 Question for DI: Would this be considered serial or parallel moaning? 😉

1. OK, if you really need it. 2. Variax. 3. See #1. 4. Variax. 5. The UI is already dead-simple. How much easier can it get? 6. Really? 7. There are 1000 other gadgets that will always do it better.

Simple question about EQ/Cut parameter priority order
cruisinon2 replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Can't say I know the answer, but it seems to me that having the info won't help you one way or the other, in this case. Modeling is weird. The "why's" get rather nebulous. You've been very specific about settings that you like...you've already won. What difference does it make what's happening first if the desired result is achieved? Even if you've guessed wrong, are you gonna mess with settings that are working? -
Just in case we all needed a reminder that you need to be careful what you ask for...😂

Yeah, used to be made by Groove Tube, then Fender bought them at some point. Don't know that they really do much to increase sustain everywhere, but if you've got a Strat suffering from dead spot-itis (don't they all, somewhere? lol) in a frequently used location, a little extra mass on the headstock can, if not eliminate the dead note, at least move it elsewhere to a less traveled spot. Sometimes, depending on how bad the offending note is, you don't even need something that big and silly looking. I've got one guitar for which a capo on the headstock mitigates the problem nicely... and at least a capo looks like it sorta belongs there, lol.

Don't know about everybody else, but since I don't have 2.50 yet...I am currently uninspired. 😉
-
Oh well. Add it to the list with the parachute, beer cozy, and imported French toenail clippers. I'm still pissed...😉

A wise man once said, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull$hit"...😂

I have no idea really, but I'm guessing the answer is no...in so far as this unit is FX only. Without amp sims, there is no "tone" per se, just various FX settings. There's nothing in Customtone for any of their other multi-fx units that have no amp sims...but who knows? Anything's possible.
-
Hang a 5 lb dumbbell from the headstock...😉
-
I'm just gonna go ahead and guess that this is a hardware issue if rebooting and reflashing firmware hasn't helped...knob has likely crapped the bed. May or may not be cost effective to fix, given the aging HD platform. Only one way to find out... open a service ticket and see what they tell you. It's also a great excuse to go Helix shopping. 😉 A squirt of contact cleaner is always worth a try too, as long as you don't mind opening up the back...certainly won't make anything worse, and at this point you're long out of warranty anyway.
-
Recommended/required or not, on a long enough timeline, NOT backing up beforehand is eventually gonna bite you in the a$$... dont care who's gear it is, or what the "official" upgrade protocol says. It's just a bad idea...
-
Lmao...winner, Post of the Day!
-
Crackheads spend less time worrying about their next fix...😉
-
Well no, not really... you can't expect to get the same tone by going into the the FX return of a head (or power amp) that's driving a Marshall 4x12, vs running that same patch into the return of a Fender Bassbreaker 1x12 combo. The cable set-up might be the same, but your sound won't be... but it has more to do with the speaker(s) than the amp that's driving it.

Lol...gotta love those who feel justified in whining about the perceived deficiencies of stuff that no one has yet, based on the content of some demo video. And I'm not gonna buy that Mustang I've been wanting because the one I pulled up next to at a traffic light yesterday didn't "seem" like it could get off the line very well. Ugh. Logic is awesome... excuse me, I have to go wash my face with my feet. Why? Because I can...
-
I'm ready for the next logical step. Once I've got my POD up and running on Linux, I want to power it with a hamster wheel...probably gonna need some blow for the hamsters, as I tend to play for hours at a time. Little guys are gonna get tired. 😂
-
And you'll be doing it again in another day or two...lol
-
Is there a global setting like on the HD500 for running into power amp?
cruisinon2 replied to naylor_novelis's topic in Helix
You don't want those old "output modes" anyway... they're nothing more than applied EQ curves that are a "best guess" based on the general type of set-up... head/cab, combo, etc...guessing sucks, and the results are hardly universal. Besides, those modes didn't enable or disable anything in your signal chain anyway...you still had to choose whether or not you were running full amp sims, or the preamp only models with no cabs or mics. With Helix it's one less thing to worry about. I'd say most of us end up with different sets of patches for different environments...even those who run full FRFR rigs, without a "real" amp anywhere in sight. Large volume differences alone make it almost impossible to use the same patch at both living room and stage volume, no matter what kind of speaker it's belching out of.
