  1. The best reason as far as I'm concerned, is having one clean tone, and one dirty...you can then assign each to the expression pedal, and morph seamlessly between them. For live use, it's priceless. Makes transitions much smoother, without the abrupt change that always accompanies changing between two patches with very different tones.
  2. Shhhhhhhhhh! If too many people figure this out, the economy collapses...;)
  3. Do you find this pre-amp to be noisy? I was reading a bunch of reviews in various places, and that seems to be the #1 complaint....
  4. Well there's a reason for everything...but good luck finding out what it is. Truth is hard to come by. It's so easy to get burned ordering things that aren't in stock, I gave it up years ago. Just wait it out...sooner or later, you won't be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a Helix. Then I'll place my order, it'll show up in a few days, and I won't need to up the dose of my blood pressure meds.
  5. I keep seeing guys posting that they just placed an order, and expect it in a few days...just saw a new thread a minute ago. So they're either super lucky, full of sh*t, or delusional. Maybe you'll have better luck ordering elsewhere, if you can find a place that actually has some in stock. If I'd been jerked around this much, I'd be cutting my losses, canceling the order, and just waiting it out. Sooner or later they'll be in stock everywhere. You won't get it any sooner, but at least it would cut down on the aggravation.
  6. It's inevitable. Guy in another thread just bought a brand new one for $599. Hell, these things were more than twice that much initially...it's either the retailers blowing out old stock, or if they're still getting deliveries from L6, then it's the mother ship letting them go for a song. Either way, it points to "end of days" for the JTVs if you ask me.
  7. Nice...$599 is a steal. Glad you didn't trade in the other guitars?
  8. Look...this falls squarely into the category of "just because you can, doesn't mean that you should". Gear like the POD, that even allows the possibility of connecting to your home stereo, is fairly new to the guitar playing world. That means that for almost as long as the electric guitar has existed, nobody was concerned with trying to get gig-ready sounds through their living room stereo, because it wasn't even an option...so why start now? You're not bringing those speakers and that amp to your gig, so this makes no sense. Build your patches through whatever gear you're gonna be using on stage. Anything else is a fool's errand, no matter how convenient it seems.
  9. Well that I don't know, you might be right...but you had asked specifically about the alt tunings. I still doubt that matters. But it is possible that the piezos might be a problem, in which case it might not work with the modeling at all, alt tunings or not.
  10. I loathe trade deals. You never end up on the winning end. Plus, imho, playing the guitar in the store for 10 minutes is not enough to decide whether or not you really like it, or if it will meet your needs. You need to spend time with an instrument...especially this one. They have quirks. Piezos can be weird. And it's not always something you're gonna notice after just a few minutes of playing. Buy it and live with it for a while. You can always sell the other axes later if you want...and the overwhelming likelihood is that you'll get more money for them that way than whatever their trade value works out to be. And as much as I like my JTV, it's not so over the top wonderful that I'd part with 2 other guitars to get one.
  11. Unless I'm missing something, that thing is just a MIDI controller, specifically designed for use with various Digitech whammy pedals. Itself, its not an FX pedal (near as I can tell from the product description)...so right now you've got the remote, but without a TV you can't watch "Bonanza" no matter how many buttons you press...
  12. Lmao... I understand retailers are already taking pre-orders for the new Line 6 "?", MSRP:?, delivery guaranteed sometime before The Rapture, and if not who cares? Wherever you land, guitars will be the least of your concerns... ;)
  13. Don't see why not. The pedal has no way of knowing if the signal you're feeding it has been manipulated with alt tunings or not. As far as it's concerned, a guitar signal is a guitar signal.
  14. As said above, it can probably be fixed. But minus a warranty, it might not be cost effective. And depending on your proximity to an authored service center (famed in song and story ;)), this can start to get expensive just shipping it back and forth. Plus, most of these repair shops have some kind of flat-fee diagnostic charge that you're responsible for if you elect not to do the repair. And in my experience, even the authorized places often don't have the part you need on hand...so there's gonna be extra wait time while they order whatever it is. If you send it back to the mother ship, you can probably skip this part I suppose, but the whole thing quickly becomes a real pain in the arse either way. Grabbing another used one might be a better option. Hard to say without knowing exactly what needs to be replaced. Lots of guys who bought a Helix are unloading their PODs...eBay is full of 'em.
  15. Depending on the kind of speakers you have, their response may not be particularly flat. You might want to look into a powered monitor, or a pair of them if you want stereo FX.
  16. Seems you got lucky. There are guys who ordered it way before that who are still waiting. Luck of the draw...
  17. If I were you, I'd hold off on selling every other axe you own until you see if you actually like the JTV. It's not a universal love affair...and you need to get a good one. Some of them have issues. Buy from somewhere with a decent return policy like Sweetwater.
  18. Just raise the action by a house fly's nose hair...it'll fix everything. This isn't your father's cousin's step-brother's college roommate's guitar...
  19. Woo hoo! Now we can look forward to endless laments over pushed back shipping dates for the bag that everyone's backordered Helix will go in...if it ever gets there! I'll give 8 to 5 odds that bags will begin to arrive before Helix...;) Pre-ordering anything is a disaster...
  20. Why suffer like that for 5 years? This is easily remedied for as little as ~$120 for a Mighty Mite Strat neck...or spend a little more and go with a Warmoth. The warranty is long gone, so no issues there. If you think you like the guitar now, you'll be thrilled beyond words with a neck that's playable.
  21. I think I've seen this movie...;)
  22. Opinions vary...and more will soon arrive, but here's my 2 cents: Assuming that the amp has an FX loop, just run straight out if the POD into the FX return so that you're only using the amp's power section. If you try and plug straight into the front, it's a God awful mess...it's not impossible, but it's noisy, and just an all around pain in the arse to get decent tones. Create your patches as you see fit, and it's off to the races. Just be prepared to experiment with the POD...a lot...it can be a bit frustrating at the outset. Might take you a while to find combinations that work for you.
  23. The learning curve is steep with the PODs...but once you get the hang of it, it won't take a year and a day to dial in a decent sounding patch, even starting from scratch. After a while you'll likely settle into a few combinations of FX, cabs, and mics that you like. Aside from the occasional medicinal tweak, you'll spend more time playing...but at the beginning it is a grind.
