  1. Not if it costs as much as the guitar itself (or more if you have a Standard), and that's exactly what most folks balked at the first time around. And frankly, I think expecting the price to miraculously drop to less than half of the original quote is a pipe dream.
  2. I must be missing something... not sure I understand the problem. You can use any of the available wah models with the Helix's expression pedal at any volume you wish....one has nothing to do with the other. Nor should it necessitate rolling off the guitar's volume, unless you actually want the tonal change that will accompany that.
  3. Selling off all your gear to finance something entirely different (and make no mistake, modeling is a whole other world) with which you have little to no experience, is never a good idea... it might not end well. Buy from a place (or perhaps rent one if it's an option) with a decent return policy so you can spend some time with it (a couple of weeks at a minimum, not a day or two) and decide if modeling is for you or not. You can always unload your existing gear after the fact.
  4. It shat the bed, man... assuming it's still under warranty, it's service time. Open a ticket.
  5. Oh, I'll get my pony... the are ways. ;)
  6. Whether it's the best idea ever, or the worst since Cheetos lip balm, or Harley Davidson's line of men's fragrances (yes, those are both real, lol), if you don't put it in Ideal Scale, nobody who matters will notice it.
  7. OK....I will happily concede that if I buy 1 candy bar for a dollar, then 3 candy bars will cost me 3 dollars. But imho, that reasoning is more than a bit overly simplistic relative to this particular topic. Lots of things affect price...such as how many units they think they'd realistically sell vs. the R&D and production costs. Doesn't much matter how cheap the parts are if nobody will buy the thing. Variax is not exactly a household name, and the product would be of absolutely no use to the vast majority of the guitar-playing community... plus, the need for a wireless unit is far from universal to begin with, even amongst guys who think Variax is the greatest thing since indoor plumbing.
  8. It's that a question? And if so, what exactly are you asking?
  9. No, there's a limit. You can control up to 64 individual parameters with snapshots.
  10. In a pinch there's always those $6 machetes at Harbor Freight...
  11. Well I have... and now that I think about it, that damned mower has never had an update of any kind. I'm outraged! Anybody got John Deere's customer service #? I'm gonna give them a piece of my mind...;)
  12. I'm not sure that's a safe assumption... yes, the G10 had multiple available channels, but it's only using one at a time. I'm no engineer, but there's got to be more to it than that, otherwise we'd have seen wireless VDI already. Plus, that post is over 3 years old...I dunno about you, but I'm paying more for just about everything than I was 3 years ago, lol... if they built it tomorrow, it wouldn't surprise me if it was north of $1K.
  13. No, it's a perfectly valid "take". I don't pay money for promises, or any other intangible concept for that matter... because promises have a disturbing tendency to not be met. The average everyday, relatively inconsequential "promise" is nearly worthless, but an advertising promise? Please...roadkill has greater value. I'm laughing so hard right now, it's difficult to type through the tears... I pay for stuff that I can hold in my hand. What's in the box, is in the box...warts and all. Neither myself, nor anyone else is "entitled" to an evolving device. It's nice that development continues for a while, and I'll gladly accept whatever comes down the pike...but it's not a birthright. And you can spare me the lecture about product development.
  14. We could sit here and check off one genuinely "unnerving" thing after another all day long. Much of the world is unnerving, to put it mildly. This however, doesn't even make the first cut.... and to any and everyone who's fortunate enough to have nothing better to complain about: SlĂ inte! You've won the game of life...
  15. Logic has no place on the internet...it interferes with all the baseless speculation. If we all started thinking about things, how would we get a decent gripe and whine off the ground? ;) "The Gripe and Whine" would be a great name for a $hitty dive bar...
  16. What if C-A-T really spelled DOG? If we connect the 3rd framistan to the 11th Fetzer valve via the boomerang conduit, you'll sound just like EVH. Does any of this matter? Will it change what you had for lunch? Like the stock cabs? Awesome...use them. Prefer IR's? Awesome...use them. Think they both suck and wish you'd bought a Kemper? Awesome. Sell the Helix and go shopping....
  17. My free $hit isn't here yet, and I demand ANSWERS! I have absolutely no patience, and I approve this message. (paid for by the Who Needs QC? Deliver Tomorrow Yesterday PAC)
  18. Just depends on the gig man... it'd be ideal for a Ramones or Sex Pistols tribute band. ;)
  19. I wouldn't think so.. regular mono 1/4" jacks are all the same. If it's an older instrument with a lot of miles on it, the clip that holds the plug in place may be a bit loose/worn. You can always try replacing it... ten bucks and 2 minutes with a soldering iron and you'll know if that was the problem or not.
  20. You can take the blatherings of a retail sales rep as Gospel if you like, but all they're doing in regurgitating what shows up on their computer screen... they don't actually "know" anything most of the time. "Discontinued" could just as easily mean "we're not carrying this item anymore because the bean counters decided they don't sell enough". Doesn't necessarily mean that the product has ceased to exist. They exact same exchange has been happening with regard to the JTV's for years on end now. Some genius retail clerk tells somebody that they're not being made anymore, then they show up in here panicking about "No more JTV's! No more JTV's!" And they're still around...
  21. Does seem rather odd... mine sits quite snug in every guitar I've used it with. Have you tried it in another instrument? I'd tend to agree with Phil. Seems like it would almost have to be the jack...a 1/4" plug is a 1/4" plug. It's the jack's job to keep it in place.
  22. At some point the mind starts to see what it wants to see. If you're thoroughly determined to search for evidence of Bigfoot at your local mall, and you keep at it long enough, eventually you'll find some. I tried making these adjustments just for giggles, both at a comfy volume through studio monitors, and silly loud through an L2T, and couldn't tell a bit of difference either way, with dynamics or anything else. Maybe it's me....
  23. Yup... there are exactly two things that can capture the "amp in the room" feel, and they're on either side of your head. Won't end up on a recording no matter what you do.
  24. Lol... you and me both. Truer words have never been spoken. ;)
