Have you tried the scenario with a JTV that does not have the battery inserted? I don't leave the battery in mine. It should make no difference but stranger things have happened and I think it's worth a test just to check it off the list. :) The fact that you and the OP can recreate the problem will hopefully help Line 6 work out what is causing it. Good luck.

I can report that like jandrio I don't have the issue either with JTV59+HD500 both running latest firmware. Hope the info helps. :)

I updated my JTV to post v2.x levels using the HD500 as an interface via a Win 7 pc and did not have an issue. Do I need to go back and reflash using the interface widget? Or am I ok if I did not encounter any obvious errors? Thanks.

It is on SYSTEM SETUP screens 11 . It allows you to turn it ON and OFF and the 4 control knobs allow you to select and set each specific setting.

I have an HD500 and have the same experience as you to varying degrees over different output modes - but essentially always the same base line experience on default settings and I then have to tweak to get the bass boom and the glassy shrill top end out - and I tend to continually tweak around the sweet spot but never quite find it - probably because of playing in different settings at different volumes - so I often find that my patches go from being too shrill to too muddy and then back again as I tweak to get them just right. Over the years I have got better at it and I have found several ways to address the problem with help and suggestions from many on these forums. The new GLOBAL EQ is a great way to quickly cut out the unwanted lows and highs - but it's best to use other EQ tools on an individual patch basis so you can still use the GLOBAL EQ for venue/room adjustment for all patches if needed. I have found using the VINTAGE PRE at the end of the chain before REVERB is useful as it allows you to cut lows and highs and can add a little something to the end tone. Another thing to do is to set the CAB dep parameters RESONANCE and THUMP to zero when you create your patch as that helps reduce both boom and some shrill - you can then re-introduce it bit by bit to see what difference it makes and how it affects the sound and which level you prefer - certainly the default levels seem to be too much which I think does contribute to issue - I have found this a very effective way to reduce boom. Also, you can set the ER value to zero as this reduce top end from the "room reflection" modelling. Plus of course boosting MIDs helps. However, many tweaking options are available to address the issue and you can experiment and find which you like best.. Good luck!

What is with the new Fonts on the Forum?
edstar1960 replied to Charlie_Watt's topic in Line 6 Lounge
Same here - still slanted font and hard to see which topics I have read. -
Are you aware that a blank patch by default produces output about 6db quieter than a standard guitar going direct into an amp? To get a blank patch to match a direct guitar signal requires it to be boosted by 6db. If you are levelling everything to a default blank patch then everything is probably too quiet. I would recommend that you create a default blank patch that matches the level of your direct guitar input to an amp and use that to level to. Hope that helps.

I think I have seen a thread or two where users have reported similar issues with an HD connected to a JTV - worked fine before but now causes problems after fw update. I have not seen any resolutions though - only work arounds - such as powering up without JTV connected. I suggest you open a support ticket with Line 6 and they will help you trouble shoot it - and hopefully provide a fix. Meanwhile, you can roll back firmware for both JTV and HD500 by using Monkey. Just connect the unit to the PC, and start Monkey , it will detect your unit and tell you whether software is up to date and on the right hand side of the window should be a button labelled ROLL BACK - click on that and it will let you select a previous fw level to roll your unit back to. Good luck - hope you get it resolved.

Attention Line 6 some honest feedback from a new user..pros and cons
edstar1960 replied to awesomejohn7's topic in POD HD
Welcome aboard awesomejohn7! I agree with you about the fragile power supply - I have raised an ideascale request asking for it to be made tour grade robust - ideally as a 3 piece unit like a laptop power adaptor. The power switch doesn't bother me - I just use a power strip with a switch. As for ESCAPE or UNDO - well I don't think it needs one - as long as you don't SAVE your changes to the unit then the original setting is still there ready for you to reload by pressing the patch footswitch again or If you are in HD500 EDIT just re-receive the patch from the unit. Patch restored. As for a clean slate template - the easiest thing to do is save the USER 4 setlist as it is from the factory - which is just an entire setlist of blank patches - save it as BLANK SETLIST. Then save just one of the blank patches as BLANK PATCH. Next backup everything on your HD500X as FACTORY RESET BACKUP BUNDLE. Then you can load in your BLANK SETLIST to each of the SETLIST memory locations to completely clear the unit down. Then save that as BLANK BUNDLE so you can use it to reset your entire unit if you want to start with a complete blank slate. You can use the HD500X in ABCD or FS5-8 mode - it 's a choice in the SETUP MENU. ABCD is the default that allows bottom 4 switches (ABCD) to choose patches within same bank., and top 4 switches to be assigned to switch fx on/off within currently selected patch. FS5-8, allows all 8 switches to be assigned to control fx on/off within currently selected patch (so it behaves like a fixed pedal board - but a pedal board that gives you 16x4 pedal boards within each set list! Although it doesn't allow you to configure it to have each of the 8 fs go directly to a new patch - I have never found that to be a problem as how often do you need 8 different patches within one song? Plenty of time between songs to hit the up/down bank and then a patch select button - plus you then still get another 4 buttons for each patch to control fx on/off which gives a ton of flexibility for live use. My advice is to start simple with mono patches just with an amp and build up a few base level patches like that for particular sounds. Then get to know what each of the DEP parameters do and how best to tweak them for your sound/style. Once you have the nuances of each amp down - then add fx as needed - again one at a time so you can hear exactly what difference they make to the sound. Also - make sure you understand the routing options - the input/output and the paths A and B - and how it all works together as it is very easy to get confused and produce horrible sounding patches just because of bad routing choices. There is a very detailed thread by perapera on the subject of routing schematics. Plenty of very good helpful and knowledgeable people on these boards who will gladly help you out. Hope this info helps! Good luck! And welcome once again! :)- 45 replies

Thanks for clarifying nico. I thought that was how it was designed to work but I had not tested it myself as I mostly use input 1 and 2 set to different values. Based on spawn2031 earlier comment I was just trying to think of a possible explanation for what he described just in case it was not just the global reset setting tuner mode back to bypass.
-
Remember that the tuner only operates on input 1. If you have input 2 set to SAME and you have a stereo path throughout your patch and the mixer with path A and path B panned hard left and right then it may be possible that if tuner is set to MUTE that it will only mute path A and therefore L out and so you may still get a signal coming through on R out. I haven't tried this so I may be wrong but it may be why you still hear sound on one channel. My patches are all mono, and I usually have input 2 set to something else which means tuner will mute everything for me.
-
The new fw requires a global reset and that reset changes the default tuner mode to bypass so all you need to do is reset that value to mute. When tuner is activated, control knob 2 allows you to change between bypass and mute, and the value is displayed on the screen below the tuner display.
-
It has to have a negative centre and that one has a positive centre - not sure how easy it is to swap the centre from positive to negative or even if its possible with these pre-made units.

Has HD500 fw 2.62 changed tone of your existing patches?

installing the new firmware 2.6 the global eq and variax doesnt appear
edstar1960 replied to rojitolijo2fg's topic in POD HD
What do you see when you VIEW the System Setup menu? It shows you the flash level in the top right corner which should read 2.6 and it should also have 12 pages with pages 11 and 12 being for the GLOBAL EQ. Also when you installed the FW did you choose to KEEP your patches? If you did choose to keep them then you will NOT see the VARIAX set list in the set list choices - you will just see whatever you originally had on the unit. -
Perhaps you could post a clip demoing both sounds so we could all listen and hear what you are describing. Thanks. Meambobbo has written a great guide on the POD and has an entire section dedicated to describing the difference in cab/mic behaviour depending on which output mode is chosen. It can be found here: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/setup#outputModes

The JTV59 bridge humbucker is clearly much louder than the model Lester bridge position. Yet the model Lester position drives the HD500 model amp harder than the physical humbucker when the JTV59 is connected via VDI. Anyone any idea why this is the case? Can anybody else replicate this situation to confirm it is normal and not just my HTV/HD500 combination? Thanks.

strange glitch (500x, editor, programming footswitches)
edstar1960 replied to AlexKenivel's topic in POD HD
Golden rule when using HD500X EDIT to program patches - NEVER touch anything on the HD500X itself until AFTER you have SENT the updates to the HD500X and disconnected it from the PC. Messing with the controls on the HD500X while it is connected and talking to HD500X EDIT will always cause issues because effectively they are two computers talking to each other and can easily get out of sync. Always allow the HD500X EDIT To be in control when connected to PC and don't touch the physical controls. -
HD500 Edit Send Setlist Unknown Error Code 80007413
edstar1960 replied to edstar1960's topic in POD HD
1. I agree with duncann as he stated above - that you can load 2.62 patches on to HD's with earlier firmware. I proved this by saving the VARIAX set list from 2.62 and successfully sending it back to my HD500 at v2.32. My other user set list which generated the UNKNOWN ERROR, still seemed to be sent correctly to the HD500 at v2.32 and all the patches seemed to load and work when I tried them - so not sure what the error was referring to in my instance. I think it must be something specific to my user set list. To be safe, just in case something would bite me at a most inconvenient mid-gig moment, I decided to go back to v2.62 and load the set list without the HD500 EDIT error. 2. I don't know. Not sure they are aware of it yet - unless hurghanico and/or duncann have since raised support ticket for it.- 23 replies

HD500 Edit Send Setlist Unknown Error Code 80007413
edstar1960 replied to edstar1960's topic in POD HD
Thanks very much for testing this out duncann. I looked at the patch in question under HD500 EDIT in offline mode and it displayed it fine, as well as the other double amp patches in bank 15. It also displays fine on my HD500. I can't try the resend without it because my HD500 is back on 2.62 - so I would have to roll back the fw first. Not sure when I will have time to try that in the near future.- 23 replies

New JTV-59 -- wow!
edstar1960 replied to grandinq's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yep - you could always use Custom Bank 1 positions 1/3/5 for Strat positions 1/3/5 and then Custom Bank 2 positions 1/3/5 for Strat positions 2/3/4 or whatever combo you need to get the 3 way toggle to work switching between your favoured strat pickup switch positions eg: 1/2/3 or 1/4/5 or 1/3/4 or 1/2/5 .... -
HD500 Edit Send Setlist Unknown Error Code 80007413
edstar1960 replied to edstar1960's topic in POD HD
Thanks for trying this out duncann. That's very interesting - so you get the UNKNOWN ERROR CODE 80007413 ? The QUO DOUBLE AMP Patch was originally built and tested on my HD500 prior to v2.62. And it goes back on quite happily from the v2.62 backup as long as I have the v2.62 fw. So I wonder why it overloads the DSP on your HD500 but not mine? I will take another look later. Thanks again.- 23 replies

New JTV-59 -- wow!
edstar1960 replied to grandinq's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Actually it's not that bad unless you always change pickup positions manually during a song - or choose different pickup models manually mid-song. If you have an HD500 or HD500X then you just program it in and step on a patch and it's done. I have seen plenty of LP players who like to switch between neck and bridge pu's mid-song and that is just as easy on the JTV59. What is tricky is picking positions 2 or 4 - but then that's tricky on a strat style 5 way too. If you need to manually step through the JTV59 positions then you can still do it with one action at a time like this: Start toggle in position 1 (toggle down - neck pickup) Hit Alt Tune Button - that gets you position 2 Move toggle to middle that gets you position 3 Move toggle up that gets you position 4 Hit Alt Tune button - that gets you position 5 It takes 2 actions if you are in standard 1/3/5 mode and in position 3 and you then want to go to 2 or 4, because then you have to hit the alt tune button and then move the toggle (or vice versa). I use the HD500 all the time to change guitar model at the same time as changing patch - so the manual model switching has not been an issue for me.
