  1. I upgraded my JTV to v2.21 yesterday. Before I did the update, I backed up my models and I reset my GLOBAL STRING levels to zero. Previously I had made some significant changes at Global String levels and also within individual models to cater for the significant string volume imbalance within individual models I got when I installed v2.1 on my JTVs (not to be confused with intended volume difference between strat and lp models due to different modelled pick ups). So the intention was to see what v2.21 sounded like with a clean slate and a fresh reload of all the factory models, and then I could always reload my previous altered models and reset GLOBAL string levels if necessary. The updates went smoothly and when I tested them with my HD500 patches I didn't hear any string volume imbalance on the models as I had done with the initial v2.1 install. I did not reset my GLOBAL string levels and I did not reset individual model outputs to increase volume - everything seemed great straight off the bat. I have not done exhaustive testing yet - I have only played through my HD500 with headphones - but previously the v2.1 differences really stood out with exactly the same test, it was so easy to hear the different string level responses, but now under v2.21. the string levels seem to be balanced as expected on the models. This may well just be down to some peculiarity of the re-flash process, but for me at least, it has fixed the string volume imbalance issue. I know many people did not have an issue when v2.1 came out but I also remember many people, like me, complaining about it. Maybe it's worth them trying the update just to see if they also get the string volume imbalance issue fixed? I know Dave (the OP) has said he still needed to reload his previous adjusted models to bring back his string volume adjustments for his models, but for me it seems to have fixed the issue, so YMMV. :)
  2. I added an updated version of the acoustic patch today. My first patch had the Queue level set to wide on the parametric EQ - on this new patch I have moved it to the other extreme to make it more tightly focused. Hopefully it will be useful for some people. Again - please adjust to taste - but hopefully it's a good starting point for JTV acoustic via HD500 via L6 Link into L2m for playing at volume with a band. http://line6.com/customtone/profile/edstar1960
  3. I installed v2.21 on my JTV59 today (updated from v2.1) - before I did, I made sure I backed up everything on the JTV and I made a note of the Global String levels which I had altered to counteract what I found to be quite a severe string volume balance mismatch - I had also altered some individual models adjusting string volumes and also boosting patch output on the T-Mods and Strats and acoustics. I reset the GLOBAL string levels to zero and I chose to overwrite all the models the install. It all went perfectly. When I demo'd the newly reflashed models at v2.21 I no longer noticed any severe string volume balance mismatch - it all sounded great straight off the bat. I have not given it a thorough test yet - but just playing through some patches on my HD500 with headphones the T-mods, the strats all sounded like the string volumes were nicely balanced unlike when I had installed v2.1. So it may just be a coincidence that the reflash to v2.21 resolved that issue for me or........stranger things have happened! :) I also updated my HD500 to v2.62 and it went perfectly. I backed everything up first and then overwrote all the patches with the new fw. I did the Global reset and the pedal re-calibration and so far all sounds great! I haven't tested the Global EQ yet but I could see it switched on by default in the system setup page 11. Thanks LIne 6 for a trouble free FW upgrade for both my JTV and my HD500. :)
  4. Or a mix and match bundle where you can pick any 10 items, for example, from a choice of amps and cabs.
  5. I believe the new VARIAX set list replaces USER 1. No idea what they are called after the install of 2.62 as I haven't tried it yet - but I guess you will find the new Variax tailored patches in the set list which is in the position that used to be referred to as USER 1.
  6. Check out my thread on same subject where several useful alternatives were suggested: http://line6.com/support/topic/12606-any-alternative-power-supply-for-hd500/
  7. Line 6 specify this in the release notes concerning SET LIST names - is this what you are referring to?: Known Issues Set List Names—If during the update process new presets are optionally loaded to overwrite the previous set, Set List names may not correlate to the new presets appropriately. This is because renaming Set Lists is not a part of the firmware update process. Set List names may be changed in the hardware using a variety of methods: System Reset—Pressing (and holding down) the four-way navigation pad to the left while powering up will perform a Global Settings reset. This action will reset all settings to their factory default and requires a recalibration of the on-board expression pedal. Instructions for pedal calibration can be found here. Due to the pedal recalibration, it is generally recommended to update the Set List names using the manual method described below. Manual—Set Lists may be renamed manually by simply highlighting a Set List name and pressing the SAVE button. Use the four encoders beneath the main display and press SAVE to complete.
  8. From what I have read on the forums, GLOBAL EQ does not apply to L6 LINK or USB, but it should operate on all the other outputs. You can contact Line 6 directly if you need confirmation.
  9. Thanks for your input. I understand about knob jitter but I don't think it applies in my case for these reasons: - I always have knobs set to zero - if a knob was slightly off zero and that was detected when I pressed the FS for the patch then any change to the tone would reflect the settings on the knobs which would all be near zero, so that would not create a harsh trebly sound but should create an almost silent patch, unless it only detected a change on the treble knob, in which case it would drastically reduce the treble as the knob would be near zero. Also a second press of the FS would just detect the same slightly off zero knob and would not reset the sound to normal. I don't understand why a second press of the FS would reset an incorrectly detected knob movement. Surely it would just detect the movement again? - knob movement detection also results in the amp control screen being temporarily displayed and that never happens when I have encountered this problem Thanks for the suggestion though as it may explain odd tone changes for some people.
  10. Good suggestion. However, in my case, I always have my HD500 knobs set to zero. I only ever move them when I am programming in a patch - when I am just playing stuff back I always have them at zero. And besides, if it was the knob position causing the variation in tone, then pressing the fs again to reload the patch won't make any difference UNTIL you move the knob back to zero. In my case and for gloc0005, we can reset the trebly/harsher sound by simply pressing the same patch fs again - we don't have to move the knobs on the unit to reset the sound. Thanks for chiming in though. :)
  11. That's very interesting. And does it resolve itself if you just press the patch fs again to reload the same patch? May well be worth raising a ticket with Line 6 support to report it to them - perhaps there is a subtle bug that is somehow dropping or applying an unknown EQ - certainly quite a few people have noticed odd things with the new GLOBAL EQ where it doesn't always seem to operate. I will have to do some testing with my unit again - I am still on the older firmware as I have the HD500 - but maybe it's still happening and I just haven't really noticed it as much.
  12. I had a similar issue a year or so back when I had my HD500 connected via L6 link to my DT25 but it happened immediately rather than after a certain period of time. I noticed that when I selected a patch it seemed more trebly and harsh (almost as if a LO CUT or a HIGH PASS filter of about 110K has been applied) but if I pressed the same patch fs again to reload the patch then I would suddenly get the warmer bottom end re-introduced into the tone. It was only subtle but it was a definite difference and the second click of the patch fs did always seem to fix it. I never got to the bottom of it because I then bought an L2m and started using that with my HD500. It will be interesting to see if your issue is just ear fatigue or if the unit is mysteriously changing tone after it has been left on for a while. It will also be interesting to find out whether or not the tone resets itself if you reload the current patch by pressing the fs again - or whether the tone change is persistent until you switch the HD off and on again.
  13. In this thread http://line6.com/support/topic/13056-global-eq-am-i-doing-something-wrong/ Digital igloo has confirmed they have a fix for the reported Global EQ issues that will be released as fw 2.62.
  14. It could well be a bug so I recommend you raise a support ticket with Line 6 so they can fix it.
  15. I have seen a few people report this issue now but have not seen any answer. I recommend you raise a support ticket with Line 6.
  16. Yes - I agree - I think standard fitting is 3 springs. Certainly is on my JTV69 and each of my Strats.
  17. I agree with you - my oversight Of course the spring tension will affect it's resonant frequency. So perhaps the OP by moving the springs parallel and lowering their respective resonant frequencies has inadvertently increased the relative volumes of the B+E strings. If this is the case then the same effect could be achieved by leaving the springs hooked at an angle and then unscrewing the screw for the claw slightly to reduce the spring tension. Or the reverse effect could be achieved by tightening the screw for the claw in the current parallel spring position - increasing the spring tension should revert the guitar back to the non-resonant springs and the lower volume in B+E and make it feel more difficult to play.
  18. The trem claw and block is designed so that it can take a maximum of 5 springs all aligned parallel to each other. The number of springs used is determined by the player and how they like their floating trem to operate. The more springs the more tension exerted on the strings and the "harder" the trem is to operate. Less springs mean less tension and therefore the trem is easier to operate. The other adjustments (apart from number of springs and type of springs) that can be made which also affect spring tension are: - the distance the claw is from the block and this is typically adjusted if a player changes string gauge - say they move from 9's to 10's then they will have to move the claw further away to increase the spring tension to counter act the extra string tension from the heavier strings. The claw distance is also used to adjust where the trem floats in relation to the body and how much up and down movement a player wants to dorp or raise notes with the trem. - whether the springs are fitted parallel or at an angle. Putting them at an angle means they stretch further and are under more tension. It can be thought of as a fine tune tension adjustment, but the same effect can be had by leaving them parallel and tightening the claw screw so the claw moves further away from the block and increase the spring tension I can't see how the positioning of the springs does anything other than increase or decrease the tension exerted on the trem block. Once the strings are tuned to pitch the only thing that affects the playabilty or feel will be the trem tension set by the spring positions and stretch. However, I know that Variaxes and JTVs can behave oddly so it could be that the OP's experience for his particular JTV does rely on the spring positioning, or it's something else that is happening at the same time as a result of the springs being repositioned but it is not at all obvious. Just hypothesizing. :)
  19. Yes it is true unfortunately. Digital igloo explains why in this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/12866-eq-loadedno-go/ Essentially it is due to the architecture of l6 link which allows the output signal to be tapped from several points which in turn means multiple copies of Global EQ would be needed to cover each of those points. That is a no go because they had to optimise all the code just to make room for one copy of the Global EQ. He did say though that they would look at shoehorning it in for the L6 Master L/R outputs but could not promise anything and even if it is possible it would not be part of 2.6.
  20. See entry above from Digital Igloo - he has reported this error and they are working on it ....
  21. Time to raise a support ticket with Line 6 and ask them to help you trouble shoot the issue.
  22. Unfortunately it does not operate on any of the L6 LINK outputs due to architectural limitations, however, it should work on the XLR, 1/4", PHONES and SPDIF outputs..
  23. I thought the main reason people were asking for GLOBAL EQ was to allow them to tweak their sound to cater for different venues without having to mess with each and every one of their very carefully crafted patches, That applies to everyone who is using it to gig regularly in different venues who do not simply trust their sound to the resident soundman, including Dream Rig users utilising different speaker modes for different patches during their performance. Either they miss out on the GLOBAL EQ or they miss out on using different speaker modes and then have to rework all their carefully crafted patches to all work in PA REFERENCE mode. I understand why it can't be made available to L6 Link outputs due to architectural limitations and that you can work around it by not using the L6 Link, and personally it won't make that much difference to me, but I can also see why some gigging Dream Rig users will be disappointed by this news and the fact that they will be forced to make a choice when they were just expecting to gain the benefit of GLOBAL EQ like everyone else. Hopefully Line 6 can provide GLOBAL EQ for the L6 LINK Master L/R output option at some point in the future if it doesn't require a duplicate copy of the GLOBAL EQ active in DSP. I understand why it will never be available on any of the other L6 Link output options, but at least the compromise of having it available on the L6 Link MASTER L/R would avoid excluding Dream Rig users.
  24. I think they are patches that are optimised for use with DT amps when using Low Volume Mode (LVM).
  25. Isn't the L6 Link L/R output effectively the same as the 1/4"? Is it possible to have the Global EQ at least apply to L6 Link L/R output even if it can't be used on other L6 Link output options? Edit: And another thought - could the GLOBAL EQ be made available as one of the EQ fx options to be used as one of the 8 fx blocks as a stand alone item? That would certainly be a work around for the users that need it on L6 Link outputs?
