  1. My previous rig didn't do banks and setlists. It did numbers. Could you imagine on the hd500 trying to remember 1 through 512. Where is my rock echo, is it 069 or is it 007? 128 slots on my distortion unit. 200 on my fx unit. 200 more because I had two of them. Midi controllers made it a little easier, select 001 on the pedalboard and it is programmed to select 016 on one unit and 040 on another. But I still needed to know the 256 slots on my pedalboard. But it is certainly easier to have those exact settings programmed in so that they can be recalled exactly as you need them. Instead of old analog gear where you dial in your sound and then are afraid to ever touch a knob again because you know you will never get back that same sound.
  2. Now, you see, I think it is best served as a pre-purchase. Not post purchase. Hey guys, I have these issues. Can they be fixed, can you tell me how to fix it, or should I just buy a new product. Isn't that what help forums are for? I mean, once you already bought the new product and have already made the decision that you weren't keeping the old things as backup and had even already posted them for sale; there's not much we can help you with. JUST GO AWAY. There is no reason to be here telling anyone that you are leaving. Just be gone. Unless you are a major contributor, because then we may miss you. But for the most part, just quit typing into your browser line6.com. Life goes on. Don't let the virtualdoor hit you in your cyberass.
  3. I didn't fight going digital. In fact, I try to embrace technology. Which is why I make the joke about my website, "If you like having true audio (mp3/wave vs midi/beeps) on your phones, you should really kiss the ground I walk on in thanks." My thing was - I had gear. It worked. I didn't need to buy more/new. Embracing technology is not the same as wasting money chasing technology. In other words, just because it came out, does not mean that I need to buy it. My last piece of gear was bought in the mid-90's. I was set for everything I needed. If there was something specific that I needed that I did not own, the studio or promoter provided it. But that was then, this is now. I don't do the same stuff I did then. My 500 replaced every single piece of gear that goes between my guitar and the pa. The only thing I am missing is my talkbox, but I gained a vocoder.
  4. Correct. If you own a 500, there is no reason to upgrade to the 500x. It was never marketed to 500 users. It was never marketed as an upgrade. The short version is = the manufacturer quit making the chip that was used in the 500. So, L6 needed to use a new chip. The new chip allowed for more DSP. I don't know how much more. And I don't know why they changed the foot switches. But that is it. Because there was a new component (the chip), they made the X. Which, if you think about it, is fairly common place. It is still the 500, but with a slight tweak to the build. Add the letter at the end to know which version you have. Will a 600 come out? My guess (because I don't have inside information), is that there will not be a 600. But rather, a complete redesign of the product. Which would be called a 305/405/505. And yes, maybe they make a 605? But not a 600. Actually, I wonder if they will even bother with a 305. **** and to the 'upgrade' issue. The 500X has been out for almost 2 years. If you just bought a 500, then you bought someone's left over stock.
  5. That's what I was thinking too. But you would think that someone would have known/remembered/said that a box popped up, or that EDIT had all 'New Tone' listed before I hooked up my Pod. Maybe I am wrong in thinking like that. Maybe because he is new he doesn't understand that those tidbits would be helpful to know. Either way, at this point, his patches are gone forever.
  6. no *** and while I think, that in terms of a computer, even when using the EDIT software, 1 starts at the top and 16 is at the bottom so the arrows are backwards. I use the instrument in terms of regular life. Which means, if I am on number one and want to go to number 2, I have to go up. Computer programming aside, numbers go up in value. Use the up button. Computer code is written. In America, when writing, you start at the upper left and you write to the right and then down a row starting on the left again. That is why you are thinking 1 at the top, 16 at the bottom. There's nothing wrong with that.
  7. Those are the 'sync' buttons. I don't know how you inserted 512 new tone patches. But, when you make an edit with EDIT, it isn't permanent until you send it. This means that you can also undo an edit by clicking receive. Ultimately, the answer you don't want to hear but are probably prepared for: Your patches are lost. The best you can do is start from scratch - which was described above. Use Monkey to install the newest (or reinstall the current) firmware and when asked, do not keep your patches. I don't know if a global reset if needed for what you are trying to accomplish, but since we don't know what your friend did before you bought it, do a Global Reset too. And then, your exp pedal will need recalibrated.
  8. Unfortunately, because my Pod does not allow me to use Android, I can't use it with my phone. This means that I will need to take a pc along with me. Which then means I might as well surf the web in my off time. Think about. Just like the lyrics say: the only time that seems too short is the time that we get to play.
  9. The other thing to take into consideration... My Pod is a modeler. So, when someone says "what amps are you using", am I going to tell them that I use a modeler or am I going to say a 1965 Fender Twin Reverb and a 1973 Hiwatt DR-103.
  10. When I am done with L6 or the L6 forums, I will be gone. No announcement needed. When I am on tour, I won't need to let people know that I'll be back at the end of summer. I will just not be here. No one would care if I was here, gone, or coming back. No need to make an announcement about it. I didn't act impulsively. I thought out every word before it was typed. And reviewed before hitting post. I am kind of methodical that way. And with your retail analogy -- think of it another way. You buy something. Dislike it. Buy something else, and then come back in to the store and announce in front of other customers "I hate your product and am only here so that everyone knows what a lollipop product you sell" See, when you look at it from that perspective, you're damn right I am going to kick you out of the store. Maybe even put you on the "refuse service" list. JUST LEAVE. Stop logging in to your account. Delete the bookmark. There is no reason to make an announcement.
  11. Yeah, well.... I am not going to apologize. Why the need to announce you are leaving a place that no one knows who you even are. I don't care that you are getting a 'competing' product or if you are retiring or whatever situation arises. JUST LEAVE!
  12. DO I KNOW YOU? You're writing a goodbye letter as if any of us know who you are and are going to miss you.
  13. don't let the virtualdoor hit you in your cyberass I don't understand these 'announcements' people feel the need to make.
  14. Well, yeah, what did you do? Upgrading firmware wouldn't do a 'new tone'. You'd either have the factory defaults, or you'd have the same patches. And the pod doesn't even have an erase function, so its not like you could have accidentally hit a button to do it. So, depending on what you did... because you haven't said squat... you could hit the receive button and have them sent back. But, again, that depends on what you did, and what you did since then. So explain.
  15. I know this isn't what you asked, but... You don't get paid to entertain yourself. You get paid to entertain the crowd. So if it isn't going to sound the same in the pa as in your speaker, then you need to make sure that the better sound is for the audience. Of course, I've always been of the mindset: I will do what I need to do for me on stage, and I will pay the sound guy to fix it for the crowd. But my definition of doing what's best for me isn't the same as everyone else's, so I can't recommend that method.
  16. which is one of the reasons I gave up on stereo guitars twenty years ago, lol. But the pod is not exclusive to guitars. And as a tech company, L6 needs to stay ahead of the curve. Stereo guitars, thanks to other technologies, are becoming available more and more. No different than my biggest 'want' for my pod, the ability to use my android phone or tablet to run the EDIT software -- not being able to do something on iOs or Andrioid seems like the stone age as far as tech is concerned. A stereo output (if not input) should have been considered. **** Of course, I say that but still use 3.5" floppy disks on the pianos. MIDI technology is so small, that a 1.44mb floppy more than you'll ever need for a gig. And new products, they've been incorporating things like cd and usb for years, but its really only been this decade that the floppy has been phased out. Even though the file size is more than ample, if computers aren't including a floppy as a standard anymore, the rest of the world needs to follow.
  17. Nor would it. Guitar cases are made for guitars. A Gibson Les Paul does not fit in a Fender Stratocaster case. A Strat does not fit in a Les Paul case. Neither fit in a V case. They only work for the guitar they are made for. Generic cases (ones that fit all 3 body styles) offer absolutely no protection other than from rain and dust. BUT, that doesn't mean it can't be made. It just means that Fender isn't going make a line of cases that properly protect their instruments AND protect a specific product from a competing company. Have one custom made.
  18. Well, let's not go crazy. I use a HD500. It replaced every piece of gear that went between my guitar and the pa. I do not intend on replacing it anytime soon. But calling it a 'high end piece' is taking it a bit too far. It is certainly not the Wal-Mart quality that people have become accustomed to in their products. Yes, I just said that we have lowered our own expectations to the point of thinking average is great. But calling it high end is just laughable.
  19. Yes, what you said, and what he said. Unfortunately, the unit does not have stereo jacks (except headphone out). So anything needing stereo needs to run two separate jacks. I would like to see in future products (which I won't be buying anytime soon), a stereo input so that stereo guitars and keyboards can be used. And I would like to see the output jacks also being stereo so that the pod can go into a source that accepts stereo. *Just for a point of reference: if I still had a need for stereo guitar inputs, I wouldn't have gotten my pod.
  20. First, if you are using an amp, you need to turn off the amp models on the pod. A Marshall will never sound like a Fender. I know some people disagree with me and will use models through amps, but ultimately a Marshall will never produce a Fender sound. But, probably more important is: You need to make sure you have your settings set properly, and you will need to tweak your patches. For example: is it set for direct/studio or set for combo. It makes a difference. You patches need tweaked for that setting, and retweaked for your new sound source. Think about it. How long have you spend on your pod, getting it to sound just how you like it. And then you go and change the sound source. It isn't going to sound the same. But you can make adjustments just like you did when you first got the unit.
  21. I used to get paid to endorse products. Today, I try to keep that to a minimum because I am always endorsing my own companies --- I believe in them enough to own the business! I own one of Steve Vai's old Jackson guitars. A brand he loved. But he joined with Ibanez because Grover Jackson didn't believe in paying for endorsements, and Steve wanted to capitalize on his fame. What would you do, if given the opportunity - pay $2k every time you wanted a new guitar, or get paid thousands (if not millions) to play and to tell you people you play a brand. Yes, I can confirm, that it usually is about money. Pay me to use your product. Pay me to tell people I use your product. Sometimes you get paid to do an advertisement and there is no long term commitment where you would need to even use the product in public. You don't actually think that Jessica Simpson invented that perfume, do you? Who would let her in a lab with explosive chemicals! Every time I went on stage, I got a free guitar. But today, I do not own a single guitar from that brand -- none of the free ones, none that I bought, just simply none. I have a Jackson that I have owned for 30 years. I have 30 year old Jacksons that I bought used. I have other brands too. Do you see a pattern? Paid to play a brand I don't even mention. Do not even own a single unit from that brand I was paid to play. Yet, how many times have I said the brand name Jackson followed by how much I like them and have been a long time owner. Guess which brand I like, lol. Another product I sold was beer. Put up the banner. Be seen drinking on stage. I hate beer. Not just that brand, I hate all beer. It is just not my thing. I prefer liquor. So, I drank from the bottle on stage. What was in the bottle? Doesn't matter. As long as the crowd saw the logo, I was in the clear. but enough about me, even though it was totally relevant; As DI said, sometimes what is sold publicly isn't what the reality is. It is just not 'metal' to get up and say "I didn't use an amp because I didn't want to damage my hearing, so I used a modeler to give me tone" You see a guy with a company logo covered up. They either don't want to promote (for free) a company and product they like, or they are paid to promote a different company and can't contractually be seen with a different brand - or on a rare case, was asked by the company to not be seen with the logo (Muse asked Glenn Beck to stop saying how much he liked them). I know guys that get on stage with fake amps/cabs, so that they look cool (some are paid endorsements, some are not). But they are empty, not hooked up, or sometimes just cardboard cutouts. Behind the scenes they have a modeler, or a little combo that is mic'd. I hate to say this, because I just said something similiar a few days ago and don't want to appear to be bashing them: But, I can see the new parent company bringing in some advertising and some celebrity users. They are very good at marketing.
  22. Ultimately, it is the same theory as the one used to justify scalloped fretboards. You lose energy pressing against the board. No board=no loss of energy. Picking too hard and holding too tightly on the stings trying to 'make tone' results in loss of energy. Energy that could be spent hitting 3 other notes in that same amount of time. The other people are right, you need to play acoustic(ly). But it is not a cut and dry scenario. It really is a difference as to which discipline you are trying to master. Plus, not everyone is a 'master'.
  23. 1. there are more than just that one setlist. Unless the bundle is saved from an old version from before my time. 2. If I remember, didn't he use a Variax? It may make a difference if you use a guitar.
  24. Did I misread that? Didn't this last guy ask for a case that held both a guitar and a pod...
