  1. Its a syndrome of what I like to call --- the internet shopping generation. And, of course, the iPhone Generation, where you must buy it now simply because it is available, and realize that you hate it but everything will be ok because the next one will be everything you thought this one would be and more. Obviously, you will never truly know a product until you have it in your home and have been using it for awhile. But I rarely make a purchase that I am upset with because I spend time investigating before hand. And I rarely shop online. If I can't see it in person, and have my hands on it in a store, and get to toy around on it for a long time --- it better be a rare and special item if you think I am buying it. That is so different than the people that read a few blurbs online and make a purchase from the cheapest website they can find. I ran into people like that. They would come to me and say Brand X has 1000 doodads and it costs X. You are trying to sell me something that has 700 doodads and cost 3X -- please justify that. Have you listened to those 1000? Boo-ya. Price; JUSTIFIED. I mean, think about it. How many of these people were thinking that a Global EQ would automatically fix all of their crappy tone -- you know, because its new. *This applies to new item. Used items are a completely different ballgame.
  2. Did you use your pod before taking it to a gig? If yes, did it happen at home or at practice, or did this simply start after plugging it in live.
  3. The fix is.... Turn your pc volume down. It doesn't matter what I hook up to my pc, the volume will run to 100. My Pod. My TV's. My phones. If sound from my pc is coming out of another device, the volume maxes out. And it goes back to 'normal' when I disconnect.
  4. DISADVANTAGES: 1. When going straight to the PA, I lost my Talk Box. It requires a powered signal, so it gets plugged in between the head and the cab. Using one of the new models that powers itself involves using an fx loop in my pod which means reprogramming my pod instead of just being able to turn it on at random. 2. Volume levels of the Vocoder. I feel it is fairly useless in live applications because it has no volume. In the studio, I can record a vocoder track separately and therefore adjust the mixer volume way up. But live, due to the excessively low vocoder volume, I need to design a patch solely for its use with all levels jacked up (and it is still too low). It is a big disadvantage to switch between patches when I should be able to turn on an effect instead.
  5. technically, it wasn't tax free. you were responsible for handing over the tax on your own. Irish musicians. Not US musicians in Ireland. We still owe the US government no matter where we earn it.
  6. L6 isn't adding taxes. Your government is adding the taxes. That is why you see some people saying they paid less and some people paid more. As far as 'not knowing', I think it is a fairly common practice to expect some sort of difference in the final price when shopping in another country.
  7. So, what you are saying is: Your pedal works fine. It scrolls from 0-100, and you can switch from 1 to 2. Do you know how to make the pedal work within patches. IE, assigning fx to it? No, the two of you have different issues.
  8. it works if you run it through the converter found at the top of the forum
  9. 1. changing the file name is different than changing the file extension. 2. changing the file name on your pc is different than changing the file name in on your unit -- and will have different end-results. 3. there is a file converter that can change various files into other various files. 4. the drag and drop method works fine getting them into the pod. 5. using the drag and drop method to take them back to the pc will also make them the proper format. So, the point is, there are various methods.

    New to 500x

I have a 500, not the X. But I don't need to change extensions. I just insert the files. Of course, I will point out, that I will also save files that I decide to keep, which makes them 500 files. So, I don't know if I would have any long term issues using the wrong formats. Also, I use the 'drop and drag' method, not the double-click or file/open method. I had no problem registering my (used) device. And when it comes to downloading from Customtone, you can download (to the pc) whatever you want. Cookies is why you open up Customtone and it is automatically selected for one unit or the next. I don't use cookies, so I always have to re-set the unit search.
  11. You can do wet/dry for fx. But I am not sure that you can do it between all fx/no fx. The unit doesn't have a 'bypass' or a master wet/dry feature. You could totally tweak around and see how dry you can make it, especially since I don't know what kind of fx you are using. But since I don't ever use a 'new tone' sound, I would have no reason to even want to try it.
  12. the way I understand it.... the prices L6 charges are based on American Money, and the American Tax System which charges tax after the sale. As opposed to the EU countries that have the taxes built in to the sales price. Had L6 been a retail store in your local country, that $99 would have been $24 higher. Either way, it is the same end price, but there is less 'sticker shock' when you see the final number in your country because it is much closer to the tagged price. FYI - $99 is 1/10 of a lot of people's pay. It has nothing to do with the value of the dollar. --- unless you are considered 'well-off' where you are from.
  13. 2 questions: 1. are you trying to use the update from one pod on another? A couple times you said pod hd500 and others you said pod hd. 2. have you tried doing it via Monkey instead of from a file?
  14. Well.... Let's make sure you understand a couple things first... 1. the update is free. you will need to update the x too. 2. the paid stuff is not free. paid stuff is not the update, it is a separate thing. yes, if you buy it on the 500 you can use them on the x as well. 3. This one is two year old information, and therefore shouldn't be as confusing as the new stuff: Unless your 500 is broken, save your money. there is no reason to get an x. Its not like going from a 300 to a 500. Its more like going from an Samsung Galaxy S5 in black to a Samsung Galaxy S5 in blue. (for those who don't know, Best Buy was the exclusive carrier of the S5 in Best Buy Blue. Other than the color and the Best Buy app, they were identical) Its your money, do whatever you want. But I at least want to make sure you know that it is ok not to waste it.
  15. Screw this talk about your little 4 knob equalizer. I want one of these in my Pod And I am going to moan and groan until I get one for free. How unprofessional is L6 to not have one of these.
  16. I do multiple musical things. So I am constantly blanking out the machine to put in the required patches in the required order. (Which, is one of the reasons why it would be so nice to be able to run EDIT with a portable device like a tablet or phone)
  17. You have to ask yourself.... Who is Mike the Mandolin player? Because I can't imagine how a patch name like that randomly gets on your machine.
  18. you won't see the variax setlist name unless you do a global reset
  19. Search by his name Jandrio on Customtone. Or wait for him to come around tohook you up. He has some videos posted somewhere of the patches at work. http://line6.com/support/topic/11487-how-2-approximate-hotel-california-harmony-with-ur-jtvhd500/?hl=hotel
  20. Isn't that up to you; to know how many different parts you are playing?
  21. Sure, most Bigfoot and alien sights are bogus. But Bigfoot and aliens exist. Take what happened to me as an example. I knew I changed my software, so it makes sense that I may have thought there was a difference. But the people who didn't know I changed the software made comments about it sounding different.
  22. or use one 'variable' harmonizer that is controlled by the expression pedal. I think Jandrio (spelling corrected) has a HC patch,or series of patches, that covers the whole song. Either way, you can certainly play HC with the 500 in 1~4 mode. The 500 is a couple steps above your Boss. You don't need as many options on the 500 to do what you do on the Boss.
  23. I have this conversation quite often, and I stand by this no matter how many times people tell me how wrong or out of touch I am: 1. Never go on stage without a PA. whether it is yours or someone else's, just always have one. 2. Never have a PA without someone to run it -- in real time. Never one of the musicians, a separate person. 3. A fully capable monitor system may not always be an option, but that doesn't mean you need to make a decision between direct and amps. Go direct, and if need be, you have a little amp to provide you with stage volume. However, with many more places requiring a "quiet stage", relying on amps and not having capable monitors is going to be your own downfall.
  24. Between FX on/off and switching between patches, those four patch switches, each with 4 on/off switches capable of controlling multiple fx with each switch. give you so many options that I always wonder what people have going on that they need more. I feel like a beginner that is missing out on life. And then you can repeat that same 4x4 128 times.
