    Firmware 2.6

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IF YOU ARE GOING TO SHARE YOUR PATCHES, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE CREATED WITHOUT USING THE GLOBAL EQ I see so many of you guys wanting to use it as an extra eq. I also see enough of you complaining about the lack of quality tones on Customtone. Can you imagine what things are going to sound like if you create things using a non-transferable EQ setting!
  2. He hasn't even bought it yet. So he probably isn't up on all of the new information. New Firmware coming shortly - for the 500 and 500x but not the 300 or 400. It will give a 'Master EQ', and set you up to purchase add-ons. Currently, those add-ons consist of 3 various amp model packs. You can buy one for $50, or get all 3 for $100. One of them is a bass pack. Here are some bass posts, which include downloadable patches and setlists: http://line6.com/support/topic/10443-pod-hd500x-for-bass/ http://line6.com/support/topic/8395-any-bass-tips-hd500/
  3. HOWEVER... 1. The new firmware does not include bass amps. The new firmware allows you to BUY some stuff -- bass amps. But they are not included. 2. Why would the new firmware make a difference to him. He is using it at home. Why does he need 'room shaping'. He will always be in the same room.
  4. The truth of the matter is... We aren't you, so we don't know what all of the possibilities you could possibly come up with could be. So a 300 could be very sufficient. But from personal experience, I went from a 12 space fx rack with external wah and amplification, to a 500 that goes straight to the pa. The only thing I am missing is my talk box (because I no longer have a power amp) but I gained a vocoder. Besides, they sell self contained talk boxes if I really want one. For the money, there is no reason to even consider anything but the latest and greatest. The price is so minimal that it is ok to splurge on the big one even if it is overkill. Don't expect to buy it today and be a master tonight. There is no rush, take your time.
  5. I am just curious here.... Are you guys doing patches on the unit or on EDIT? This is not the first time I have seen someone say they need to use up 3 blocks to do a low-mid-hi eq. Yet, I am sitting here on EDIT and seeing an amp with bass/mid/treb/pres and graphic eq with 80/220/440/1.1/2.2 *This Master EQ thing means nothing to me anyhow. That is what the sound guy is for.
  6. put the pedal somewhere else in the chain?
  7. You haven't used it. You haven't talked to anyone that has used it. There are no video demonstrations of it. How exactly do you know that it is 'more well designed'?
  8. We already have eq's that can be set for each patch.
  9. I've seen people trying to set up patches so that they will only use one patch their whole life. They set up to turn the fx on and off as needed, instead of creating separate patches. Now, of course, not everyone does that, but that is why a lot of people run out of DSP.
  10. Joel, it doesn't matter how many times someone has needed to backup/restore. Its the insurance policy of knowing that there is a way to get it done. You know, like carrying extra guitar strings with you. When was the last time I broke a string -- not just at a gig, but broke one at all -- yet I have them with me at all times. I don't want to carry a Microsoft computer with me to every gig and every practice and every recording session to make a last minute change to a setlist, or god forbid do a complete reboot.
  11. Well, your edit of your post to better explain your question is far different than your original posting and would have gotten a different response than the one I already gave. Good luck.
  12. going to a mixer is easy. Take the two XLR jacks and plug them in. Guitar ==> Pod ==> Mixer fairly simple
  13. As you can see by my 'signature', you are not alone in wanting connectivity.
  14. Aren't you using a power supply for surge protection? They have power buttons. Oddly enough, I was just dismantling some more of my old rack system. The tuner had a power button. The distortion unit had a power button. But everything else was 'always on', and dependent on the power strip. Now, if you want to talk about redesigning the system... wouldn't it make sense to have the guitar input in the front or maybe the left side? When I am wired (and out of the crate), it keeps coming around and gets caught under the expression pedal. A front or left input may help.
  15. since it happend after an update. report it to apple. they may be having similar reports from other software.
  16. The problem with using a modeler with an actual amp is... If you have a Marshall. There is no amount of modeling that is going to make it sound like a Fender. That is why an amp/speaker that is totally void of it's own character is perfect.

    Presets

The presets are set up in batches of four, so it makes a lot of sense to have only four pedal options. It also helps to have some pedals available for selecting on/off. But as previously mentioned, you can switch the default.
  18. I was not looking for this, but BOOM, there it was. **if anyone knows how to embed this, please do so. I seem to have forgotten how to do html
  19. I don't know what difference the JTV may make because I do not own one. But true feedback requires a loop. Volume is a good way to get a loop. So, a low volume will equal no feedback. But as mentioned, you can 'simulate' feedback. \ You could buy a little, and I mean little, amp and hang it on your mic stand around waste level to help create a loop while at low volumes. But practice with it. It will take some time learning to control it.
  20. I don't own a Variax, so I can't speak on what all is involved with them. But I can't see it being too hard to do. My car radio now receives more information than just radio signals. So, the technology to send and receive code is already available.
  21. make sure you have the volumes up. Mixer. Amp. If it is a volume, crank it. That may make a difference. ~~~ Just to test.
  22. I don't understand why everyone is so concerned with an exact date. If everyone jumps on at the same time, y'all are gonna lollipop because it took so long to download because of the increased traffic. And quite frankly, if I even update it, its going to happen weeks later. Because it needs to wait until I hook it up to a PC with monkey. I have EDIT on computers for patch work, but I don't need Monkey on every pc. What is every one's rush to have an EQ that is only good when you are in a different environment? And as far as buying stuff... Again, the scenario will not play out like this: It gets released today, I bought it today, I set up my new patches today, I went out and gigged with it today. Someone complimented me on my new 5150 amp sound today. By the end of the show, 500 people showed up because they heard I have an awesome new sound, today. Or am I just out in left field with what I think is common sense stuff.

    HD500X

Those things can be done. I suggest that you wait until you have it in front of you and have tinkered with it for awhile before you worry about creating exact tones. First, without owning one, you will be lost at everything we say. But also, you never know, once you get it, you may be able to figure it out yourself.
