  1. L6 sells accessories. A keyboard case would work. A mixer case would work. There are any number of things that would work.
  2. Used car sales by individuals do not have a sales tax. But there are other taxes/fees involved that aren't called "sales tax" but for the sake of discussion you could consider it a sales tax. As I said in the post, the big tax/fee is based on blue book value regardless of the amount you paid for, and then there are other miscellaneous gov't add-ons that are flat fees.
  3. Consider this ---- 1. Many venues are requiring a 'quiet stage'. So, reliance on an amp to make sound really limiting your availability. 2. Why carry amps around if you don't have to. Have the sound man run you through the monitors. 3. Having one set system is always easier to work with than having one rig for home and one for gigs and one for big gigs. 4. The 500x is versatile. So, you can go direct to the pa and at the same time use an amp as a personal stage monitor without it affecting the pa sound. The primary question for me, when I was buying my unit.... What did I want it for. I wanted a standalone device that replaced everything (or nearly everything). Which meant I needed to get the floor unit, and not the rack unit. No amps. No other fx. Just me, a couple guitars, my pod, and a utility bag. If you want it to include other stuff... do you need amp modelers? Do you need this many fx, or can you get by with less? Do you need an expression pedal, or can you use an outside Wah, therefore can use the rack version? These are questions that no one but you can answer.
  4. could be. Could be not. We aren't there seeing how big and bright it is.
  5. Some countries don't have a separate tax for sales. OR, they technically do but don't, because they build it into the sales price instead of tacking it on at the end. I think a better statement would be --- anyone buying something from another country should not be surprised that there are some sort of increase in price at the end.
  6. Yes. And just to add to that fact - in response to what another said: I live in a state where Craigslist purchases aren't taxed because they are individuals selling used(already taxed) items. Businesses, however, do still collect taxes on CL sales. BUT, if you are a unit flipper (posting an item for sale less than 10 business days after you bought it, regardless of if it sells within those ten days), they consider you a business and therefore must file/collect taxes like any other business would. And as to the car cheats: my state bases taxes on blue book value. Regardless of what you pay. This includes family and estate transfers that honestly involve no money. So, yes, anytime you cross a border (including local borders), rules change.
  7. Well, yes. It is because of audibility. If you think about it, runners will run with weights or maybe a while towing something. It is a training tool. If you can run with something weighing you down, you can run faster in the actual competition without a parachute strapped to your back. Mickey told Rocky that for a 45minute fight, ya gots ta train hard for 45 TOUZAN MINUTES. See, playing acoustically is about creating sound. Playing technique for sound is different than playing technique for speed. While it is true, that amps/fx can cover up a lot of mistakes, the techniques are different. Playing to make your own volume, maybe you pick a little harder. Making your own tone, maybe you hold the strings a little firmer. Where in the technique book at GI, does it say to pick harder or to grasp firmly on the string? While I know that the true technique would be to not let yourself make your own volume when playing ampless, and to use the same picking either way. But if you can't hear it then how do you know what you are doing. It is only natural that we compensate the volume via picking. So, playing unplugged, while good to make sure that you aren't relying on electronics to cover up mistakes, if overdone can cause changes in how you should be playing. No different than standing or sitting when you play. You should be able to do both, but you need to make sure that you are practicing in the position that you will be performing, because the two techniques are different.
  8. sales taxes in the USA are typically state, or sometimes local, instead of country/federal/national. As I noted a few posts above... If you have a sales tax on other items you buy - such as at the mall or grocery store - then you, legally, are responsible for paying the sales tax yourself. I can't tell you the last time an individual was arrested for not reporting sales tax on a catalog/online purchase. But with technology (and government rules on banking) making it easier to check on your purchase history, I can see it starting to happen. Some states been asking on your year-end filing if you made any purchases that were untaxed. HERE'S A LITTLE SIDE NOTE FOR YOU: How did they bring down Al Capone? It wasn't for murder and racketeering. It was taxes. If you made an untaxed purchase, and they ask you if you made any -- if you said no, not only are you a tax cheat, the bigger risk is going to be perjury. A $100 purchase, resulting in $24 in taxes, I can't see a jury sending you to jail for 15 years over $24. But, you lied on a government form. You, under oath (by signing your name at the bottom), committed perjury when you said you did not make any purchases. THAT is much easier to send someone to jail for than an unpaid $24 sales tax. Ya know, I realize that not everyone is in the same financial boat as I am. But I suggest that everyone do a couple things: 1. Take a basic tax accounting course. Just to learn what is and is not. 2. Pay an accountant to do your taxes. not a housewife at H&R Block. An actual accountant. 3. Take your head out of your lollipop when it comes to government. We only become paranoid after we become informed.
  9. And inversely, you would see the spark at the outlet.
  10. Well, yeah, that is how you do it. You need to hit send/receive in order to have the changes sent or received.
  11. but it is not taxes for foreign customers. it is taxes for whoever taxes apply. You've got local taxes and state taxes and country taxes. Sales tax. Tariffs. Internet fees. blame it on your particular government, not L6. and it is not like L6 gets to keep the money. that money gets collected by them, but then given to your government every 30 days. This is why elections are important. That is why government services should stop. This is why some people get upset when they see people voting for more government, because they know that this stuff isn't free.
  12. depending on the style of music you play --- playing ampless (acoustic or unplugg electric) can ruin technique.
  13. Just to cover all of the bases... Have you turned your computer off? It is amazing at how many problems are fixed after a reboot.
  14. Its a syndrome of what I like to call --- the internet shopping generation. And, of course, the iPhone Generation, where you must buy it now simply because it is available, and realize that you hate it but everything will be ok because the next one will be everything you thought this one would be and more. Obviously, you will never truly know a product until you have it in your home and have been using it for awhile. But I rarely make a purchase that I am upset with because I spend time investigating before hand. And I rarely shop online. If I can't see it in person, and have my hands on it in a store, and get to toy around on it for a long time --- it better be a rare and special item if you think I am buying it. That is so different than the people that read a few blurbs online and make a purchase from the cheapest website they can find. I ran into people like that. They would come to me and say Brand X has 1000 doodads and it costs X. You are trying to sell me something that has 700 doodads and cost 3X -- please justify that. Have you listened to those 1000? Boo-ya. Price; JUSTIFIED. I mean, think about it. How many of these people were thinking that a Global EQ would automatically fix all of their crappy tone -- you know, because its new. *This applies to new item. Used items are a completely different ballgame.
  15. Did you use your pod before taking it to a gig? If yes, did it happen at home or at practice, or did this simply start after plugging it in live.
  16. The fix is.... Turn your pc volume down. It doesn't matter what I hook up to my pc, the volume will run to 100. My Pod. My TV's. My phones. If sound from my pc is coming out of another device, the volume maxes out. And it goes back to 'normal' when I disconnect.
  17. DISADVANTAGES: 1. When going straight to the PA, I lost my Talk Box. It requires a powered signal, so it gets plugged in between the head and the cab. Using one of the new models that powers itself involves using an fx loop in my pod which means reprogramming my pod instead of just being able to turn it on at random. 2. Volume levels of the Vocoder. I feel it is fairly useless in live applications because it has no volume. In the studio, I can record a vocoder track separately and therefore adjust the mixer volume way up. But live, due to the excessively low vocoder volume, I need to design a patch solely for its use with all levels jacked up (and it is still too low). It is a big disadvantage to switch between patches when I should be able to turn on an effect instead.
  18. technically, it wasn't tax free. you were responsible for handing over the tax on your own. Irish musicians. Not US musicians in Ireland. We still owe the US government no matter where we earn it.
  19. L6 isn't adding taxes. Your government is adding the taxes. That is why you see some people saying they paid less and some people paid more. As far as 'not knowing', I think it is a fairly common practice to expect some sort of difference in the final price when shopping in another country.
  20. So, what you are saying is: Your pedal works fine. It scrolls from 0-100, and you can switch from 1 to 2. Do you know how to make the pedal work within patches. IE, assigning fx to it? No, the two of you have different issues.
  21. it works if you run it through the converter found at the top of the forum
  22. 1. changing the file name is different than changing the file extension. 2. changing the file name on your pc is different than changing the file name in on your unit -- and will have different end-results. 3. there is a file converter that can change various files into other various files. 4. the drag and drop method works fine getting them into the pod. 5. using the drag and drop method to take them back to the pc will also make them the proper format. So, the point is, there are various methods.

    New to 500x

I have a 500, not the X. But I don't need to change extensions. I just insert the files. Of course, I will point out, that I will also save files that I decide to keep, which makes them 500 files. So, I don't know if I would have any long term issues using the wrong formats. Also, I use the 'drop and drag' method, not the double-click or file/open method. I had no problem registering my (used) device. And when it comes to downloading from Customtone, you can download (to the pc) whatever you want. Cookies is why you open up Customtone and it is automatically selected for one unit or the next. I don't use cookies, so I always have to re-set the unit search.
  24. You can do wet/dry for fx. But I am not sure that you can do it between all fx/no fx. The unit doesn't have a 'bypass' or a master wet/dry feature. You could totally tweak around and see how dry you can make it, especially since I don't know what kind of fx you are using. But since I don't ever use a 'new tone' sound, I would have no reason to even want to try it.
