keep in mind: people post because they are looking for answers. Therefore, you will find with any search, a lot of "bad reviews". You also need to remember, that one bad experience from one person can be posted over and over, therefore making it seem like there are numerous complaints when the reality is that it is one person posting 10 times on 10 different places, which will show as 100 results to a search engine. Plus, you sometimes have to read the entirety of the comments to grasp what the complaints are actually about. "I bought a product and they didn't give me free updates" "I bought a product that was broken during shipping" "I didn't pay my bill so they turned off my service" "I broke my product and they wouldn't accept it when I tried to return it". "I bought a used product and can't make it work"

Marshall half stack dream realized...Now what??!!

Most people use modelers so that they don't need to use amps. Also, there are no rules. You should consider hooking up using what is commonly called 4CM. This involves using the fx loop so that some things appear before the amp and some things after. -
8 effects. 2 amps. And a DSP limit, which may lessen the 8 effects and 2 amps. the only way around it is to buy a different unit (or use the fx loop with external pedals) step on it? I think you may need to explain yourself better. Because the answer you seek can't be as simple as "step on it". User choice. That's up to you if you use an amp or not, or even amp models or not. But, most people will tell you not to use an amp if you are using an amp model. 1. The first piece of advice is - adjust your attack. Which is a polite way of saying, learn how to play. 2. That's up to you and your ears to figure out what works best for you. That's up to you and your ears to figure out what works best for you.

new models won't solve the problem of DSP. Also, no matter what effects are available, you will always be limited to 8 effects and 2 amps (or less, if you hit a DSP limit). It sounds like you need to buy a different product.
-
But before you do that.... I don't know you, so I have to ask... Are you sure they are not working, and it isn't just that you have your settings to pedalboard mode with nothing assigned to them?
-
No, it wasn't. It may have been (and still is) the best in its price range. But it was not the fancy sports car.
-
As an owner of a 1975 Royale, I have to point out that there is a difference between it and a Pinto. The HD units are far from a Pinto, lol. Besides, not many people need a Maserati even if they can afford it. Yes, the current product is 10 years old - and that assumes the tech was new instead of being recycled from the older products, but the new units are new - which is different than a 2010 Ford, which was actually made in 2010. And, as others pointed out, the tone doesn't change just because something else came out. The funniest part.... Anyone needing the fancy sport car (if they could afford it) wouldn't have bought the L6 product 10 years ago when it was new.
-
So, for your first post on the board, you revive a 3 year old topic... and you are looking for freebies.
-
The HD units still do it (as mentioned). But if you use the EDIT program, you can make the minute adjustments. It doesn't help for live tweaking. But is a "fix". Could be worse - I played devices where you had to take the expression pedal to 0 or 128 before it would be able to make changes.

PianoGuyY can't speak on the Helix, as he has no experience. However... If he was shopping today, he would probably know much more about the newer tech.
-
The same applies. 1. Treat virtual like you would physical. 2. There are things that sound better before, and things that sound better after. 3. Ignore 1 and 2, and do what needs done to make it sound the way you need it.
-
I own the 500 family of devices. I can't give any comparison, being that I don't have the H or XT. But, I can tell you this.... If you can't get the tone you need with the HD units, you aren't ever getting the tone. *this assumes you know that you are limited to 8 effects and 2 amps, as well as the list of amps and effects available. Obviously, more specialized needs may not be achieved.

OP, I guess being a bass player, you may not know, and since no one mentioned... certain effects will react differently based on the effects the come before or after. for example - you mentioned power chords. this means you want distortion. distortion before the pitch shift would result in individual distorted notes being played in harmony. but distortion after a pitch shift will result in your "power chord" because the multiple notes get distorted together.
-
BJ, I know you know what you are talking about, but for the lesser experienced readers who may see the post and not be able to distinguish... You mean drop it to -5. Dropping a 5th would be -7, and would result in a different chord.

Not only have I seen it numerous times, but also - I have answered ads (for local work) and had guys say "we only change tuning for the last few songs of the night, so there is no need to waste time tuning back". You know, because detuning at 1:35am on a Saturday night is a good time to kill the vibe. The bulk of my guitars have Floyd Rose tremolos. There is no "on the fly" tuning. Hell, can't even change a broken string "on the fly".

People have their favorite amps and I can understand that. Especially when one is new to modeling tech, not knowing what it is capable of or how to fully exploit it. I didn't use acoustic amps. I didn't use keyboard amps. I didn't use "microphone" amps. So, in my head, I was always wondering why I used a electric guitar amp. But I could never make it work. So I quit trying. Fast forward a few decades, the technology now exists. There is no need to use amps anymore; which is exactly how I do it - no amps. If possible, I always suggest going direct to pa. And if it is not possible, I suggest trying to make it possible,

I hate going to see a local show. Everything is going good. Band and crowd are in sync. And then.... let's take the next 2 minutes to bust your groove while we detune our guitars. And to make it worse. It is usually just a song or two. And then they need to "retune".

yes, manual works. but when you have a setlist saved. or a bundle (which has 8 setlists) saved. And you upload it to the device... it seems silly not to be able to see it named "patches used for x" - the way you named it. Think about it. Even if you name it manually, but then save it and reinstall it at a later date, the name won't appear. But, I find it works just as well always seeing "setlist 1" thru "setlist 8"
-
try a new power supply.
-
Although, if you use the pod in combination with a Variax guitar.... Yes, you can insert custom tunings into patches. But the ability to "fake tune" is a feature within the Variax. You are just saving the setting in the pod patch. It is useless without the Variax.
-
Yes, after a firmware install, the global reset will insert the default setlist names because those are the setlist names that were recently installed by the firmware. But what happens if you do the global reset after a setlist upload instead of a firmware install? Maybe you are right. I said that I have forgotten what the actual "remedy" was because it is such a little thing and the fix seemed like a bigger burden than it the issue. But I do recall it being some kind of overkill non-sense like uploading a setlist and doing a GR.
-
Oh, also.... depending on how you set up the patch, you may want the 2nd one to be +7. It could be 7 over the 12, not 7 over the original (0).
-
I don't know if Smart Harmony can do that without trying it. But you can run multiple pitch shifters at the same time. So, you make one +12 and then the next one would be +19. Nothing needs to be smart about it.
