  1. the alternative is? a new one for $500. a helix for $1500. A kemper for $3k. New, the 500x was/is the best device in its price range. Used would be no different - which means all of the boss and vox type devices are still not going to be better buys. *this assumes there is nothing wrong with the unit
  2. "in ears" is short for In Ear Monitors (IEMs for short). The key word is monitor. Instead of using floor/stage/wedge monitors, you use them in your ear. Slightly different than headphones.
  3. OK, good. So, outside of a forced hardware change that may allow a small portion of users to be able to "be more creative"... do we both agree that the four units (500, 500x, pro, pro x) are the same unit? and outside of the OP owning a (possibly) broken 500, would you see any reason for him to buy a 500X if they were looking for an upgrade?
  4. I know people say that. But since I haven't run into it myself... lucky me. I only run into DSP problems when downloading from Customtone. Nothing I create myself. And I typically end up deleting everything from Customtone anyhow.
  5. jam tracks, like what is built in to some amps - ok (they're built in, of course they are safe) but streaming random songs from spotify through a guitar amp - bad mojo guitar amps are designed for guitar - the frequency range and there are even some debates as to if multiple tones at the same time will damage a cone - like having drums beating while the guitar is playing while the voice is singing for something like that you would want something designed for the full range
  6. and don't forget the glowy footswitches that cause a 60hz pulse on certain lots of units. but, hey, at least it is in sync with the tempo flash. although they do seem to be holding up better than the original footswitches so, ok, you got me. if someone wants to run 2 amps and 8 reverbs/delays at the same time, they probably need the X because we got lucky enough that the processor was no longer made and L6 was forced to use a newer one. but at the same time - you've also seen that talking about this with new people really confuses most of them. which is why i am glad you brought up that they are limited to 2 amps and 8 effects no matter which unit it is.
  7. you're not going to find me getting into the debate over "real vs memorex" again but .... we just need to make sure we are comparing apples to apples instead of apples to automobiles with apple car play same room sound air push cd sound pa sound computer speaker sound from a youtube video sound take that microphone and move it an inch and it sounds totally different keep that microphone at the same spot but turn up the amp and it sounds totally different keep that microphone at the same spot but use a different mic and it will sound totally different the list of variables is endless so I will leave it at this - the sound comes from one user and is heard by another user, and could even have users making adjustments in between the two. what I create may be different than what you hear which would lead to some odd results when you try to reproduce it for me to hear. as long as you have decent gear and know how to work it, you should be able to create indistinguishable tones
  8. NO There is no difference between the two units. It is a waste of money to buy one if you own the other. There are literally the same unit. because you are new, I will say the same thing I say to all new people this is not a wah or volume pedal. this is an expression pedal. you have to assign things to it in order for it to work. putting a wah or volume pedal in the signal chain is not enough. you have to also assign the exp pedal to the effect. I say this to make sure that it is the pedal not working and not just a "oh, that is how you do it" situation Also, and depending on what you mean by "it doesn't work", many of us have shaved the rubber that is underneath the pedal. it makes activating easier. You know, just in case it is the on/off part that isn't working.
  9. did you even read the post that you quoted?
  10. it really depends on what you are trying to do - as far as tone is concerned. take me as an example; prior to going all digital, i ran everything in one long chain. no loops. into the amp input. i designed my tone based on that system - what does x sound like when it is plugged into y when plugged into z. other people looked at me and were like "where's your loops, you need to use a dozen cables and tap dance over wires to avoid tripping" (but that was before going digital. now there is no amp.) So, then, the question is - why this specific amp? why any amp? you are using a modeler, why plug fake amps into a real amp, why not get some kind of monitor that doesn't add to the tone. sure, sounds like garbage on its own, but lets your modeled tone shine. Or are you trying to use the amp as part of the tone?
  11. Do you remember that scene in Harry Potter when Fred and George were going to enter the Tri-Wizard Tournament? Hermoine said.... "It's not going to work" oh, and just as a point of reference: There's 24 comments that come before that one that tell you how to do it. Why choose that one. You quoted someone that has one post on the entirety of the L6 board. He made one post to a thread a year and a half after it had been last used. And then he disappeared. Two years and counting, never heard from again. Of course, having numerous posts doesn't make someone a genius. But when your choice is 2 dozen posts all telling you one of two things.... why pick the 3rd option
  12. They work but pay attention, because this is where it gets interesting - The 4 units 500 /500X / Pro / Pro X They all work with no modifications necessary (because they are all "the same" unit) But there are 3 issues with this: 1. Thanks to supply issues from the manufactures, the X units have more DSP. Depending on how one designs their patches, non-X units may not work with X patches. It's an easy fix. Open EDIT in offline mode and remove an effect. But make sure you close EDIT before plugging in the unit. BAD THINGS happen to those who don't close EDIT before plugging in their device! 2. The rack units and the floor units have a different interface (inputs/outputs/footswitches/etc). So, while the patch may be the same, there may be some minor editing that needs done to make it completely function the way it was originally intended. and 3. this is the biggie -- Each EDIT program is designed to look for certain file extensions. Therefore, you will not find your 500 files with the 500x EDIT program if using the file-open menu. HOWEVER, if you use the drag-n-drop method instead of the file-open menu, they will install flawlessly
  13. i don't use mac and blue tooth seems like a waste but, the next question is - does it happen when you unplug other usb devices if it does, the problem isn't L6
  14. just to repeat what everyone else has said - studio/direct XLR when possible (it isn't always available for small gigs) but never forget - do not design patches on a guitar amp, and then expect the same results from a pa you want to design your patches with the same setup as you will be using for performances
  15. or, they will run a snake, the same as they would for microphones that way there isn't a dozen individual wires being draped across the dance floor
  16. well, saying that it isn't compatible is fairly strong language. it isn't working today. that doesn't mean it won't work tomorrow. also, it could be other things causing the issue. For example, you didn't say that you had it up and working prior to this... case in point, the thread created right before yours was from someone who just bought the unit and never had it working in the first place. but, also, the unit still works. It's not like it broke. It just isn't communicating with your new apple product at the moment. I mean, I feel your pain. I would die if my L6 devices stopped working on my windows devices. i literally blank out the unit with my "new tone" bundle, and install individual patches every time i go on stage based on that night's performance.
  17. i guess the next question is.... were you signed up to receive updates from L6? Dear Line 6 Product Owner, As you may be aware, Apple ® recently released macOS ® Catalina. Although we are working closely with Apple to ensure our software and drivers are fully compatible with macOS Catalina, we caution you against upgrading until you confirm that your specific Line 6 product is compatible with the new operating system. The latest information on macOS Catalina compatibility with Line 6 products may be found on our Knowledge Base. Thanks, The Line 6 Development Team
  18. wait, i am confused. you are running EDIT but you can't get your Pod to connect... yet you think you should be able to hear your tone?
  19. did you get the email that told you not to upgrade your mac?
  20. you sounded like you know, but this statement makes me just want to make sure. It is just a general disclaimer that I say to everyone.... this is an expression pedal. it only does what you assign to it. even having a wah in your signal chain, you still need to assign it to the pedal.
  21. not being there to know what you are actually pushing and where you are looking.... if it is isn't there, you need the latest firmware for the GEQ. I believe it first appeared at 2.6. No matter what the first firmware was, just get the latest anyhow.
  22. WHAT? There is no power button on the HD500.
  23. even if they were to give more gear... why would they go for a revv? Also, just to be clear.... The Pod HD500 is not a profiler. You do not get to add your stuff. Feel free to spend an extra decimal point if you want something like that. For the price of one week at a full time minimum wage job, the HD500 does way more than expected. In fact, it works harder than you did to get the money.
  24. it's not not only isn't it the most fitting, it is way out in left field
