Because of computer connectivity, you don't need to limit yourself to a tabletop device. You could just as easily buy, as example, an HD500 stick it on the floor and run a USB cable across the room. You'd then use the computer software to "control" the device.

Ok. Good. We've had people thinking that it was exactly what I described - an on/off button. Well... yes and no. You should have your tone ready to go, and then the sound guy just amplifies it and adjusts it for the room. But, too many groups have 4 individual tones instead of 1 band tone, and then the sound guy has to adjust everything to be something completely different than what you individually intended. Also, most cabs are going to be mic'd, not XLR'd. That allows for the pa tone to hear what you hear. But the point of it is - when you are designing tones, you at least want to have some semblance of what they are hearing. If your amp/speaker/cab is part of the tone you hear, it needs to be part of the tone sent to the pa. I looked up your amp. There is another option: Create your tones with amp models. Use the Pod's XLR direct to the PA. Use the Pod's 1/4" into your amp's fx loop. This does 2 things 1. it allows you to monitor yourself while being separated from the pa - such as if you needed a little extra volume, you could turn yourself up without messing with the volume of the pa. 2. it bypasses the "tone" section of the amp, allowing you to use it as just a power amp. It won't be a 100% exact clone of what the pa gets but will be much much closer.
-
Turning the amp models on and off isn't a simple on/off switch that can be used "for the times I do/don't have an amp" Also, any 'tone' you create with an amp model is going to be based around the tone of the model, therefore it will be tonally devastated by the removal of the model. The better thing would be to create tones for an amp without an amp model and tones for ampless with an amp model. In addition, using XLR out of your amp is not going to give you the same tone out of the pa. Your bass speaker/cab are going to be included with what you hear but not what comes out of the pa.

That's odd. I didn't know that it ever cut off the speakers.

Stay in your lane, bro. It absolutely plays through the headphones, unless: 1. there is some detail that we are missing (which I asked in my first post) 2. someone changed the configuration (which @Strat2Die4 touched on)

the computer has usb the pod has usb case closed

did i miss something. why do you need a device? use the usb port. or use the cd jack.

First... as a 1 day user - SLOW DOWN. There is a lot going on with the unit. It is not "plug and play". Next up - The 500, 500x, pro, and pro x are all the same unit. Patches for one will work on all. The trick to that is - they all use different extensions, so the edit program does not see them when you try to the file explorer. So, instead, you need to use the 'drag and drop' method to import them. for other units, there is a file converter. Number 3 the edit programs (for other units) can be opened in offline mode. this allows you see the settings so that you can manually enter them into your unit. and lastly, don't put a lot of faith in the patches you find in customtone. they are designed by people. you don't know those people. you don't know their level of expertise. and more importantly, the sound heard by the poster is based on all of their variables. variables which you don't know and probably can't replicate - primarily, which "global" settings were used and the gear they used. IE, My guitar and picking style will make tone sound different. My amp/speaker and the room that it is in will make tone sound different.

Too many people don't realize how slow the music industry moves and just how far behind it is in technology. MIDI tech would still be using floppy discs if Microsoft and Dell didn't get together and decide that they were no longer going to include them as standard gear. Music is a small market. Nor does it need to be at the forefront of technology.

I don't know if that is written in the manual(s). I use that 'feature' to design patches. I also use it to set the master volume. Audio isn't controlled by the MV, so audio can become my 'baseline' for volume leveling.
-
I don't know why you would need the pod to stream audio to speakers, but... the pod's cd input (or whatever it is called) does not run through the pod's effects. in fact, it doesn't get controlled by the master volume knob either. that seems like the cleanest option using the pod.
-
But I had to start at the bottom like everyone else. If it isn't in writing how much you are being paid for how much play time, and the gear riders, and security, and lodging... you could show up expected to be a nude bartender.

If you aren't providing your own sound, don't you put in your contract what the venue needs to supply?
-
35 years, never did a show where the guitar amps weren't mic'd.
-
I would select Variax over AUX, but that is based on my usage. Also, the global vs preset option is usually going to be decided upon based on what you are using the device for,,,, which may change in the future as you get familiar with the device. Most people are fine using the global setting.
-
While the "single input" is the best solution, if you have already designed 200 distorted tones and don't feel like redesigning them to accommodate the new setting... pick lighter roll your guitar volume down from 10 to 8 if your guitar has a coil splitting feature, use the single coils for cleans.

It is your name in lights. You are the one that gets the glory or takes the blame. The regular joe isn't going to walk out at the end of the night saying "that was a good band but the house mix was horrible". No, they are walking out early complaining about the headache you gave them. And they will never see you again. An income stream (aka a fan) lost forever. Take control of your business.

The modern PC has been around for 25 years. I can't believe that we still have to tell people to reboot their computers.
