Line 6: seems they're missing a huge marketing segment.
pianoguyy replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
most of us probably only use 2 or 3 amp models then why did you buy the unit that has 60 Who really needs stuff like ring modulator? then don't buy the unit that has it. Just not going to be spending $1000 on an LT or $1500 on a Helix. no one is forcing you to. How many own a Chevy they bought new for $20,000 4 years ago are going to go out and buy a $60,000 car today? Just because they both are made by Chevy, they are not the same car. One is an Impala and the other is a Silverado. -
Nashville, the tv show, season 2, 3, and 4. Soundtracks available for streaming. If you can't tell what was done by an HD, other modeler, "real" amps, keyboards, recorded as individual tracks, or recorded as a whole ---- then why are we having this conversation.

I sell $100,000 organs to senior citizens. Race car drivers, Uber drivers, truck drivers, and other professional drivers - they aren't the ones spending $1,000 on an ashtray. Professional guitarists aren't spending $25,000 on fantasy camps. Lebron James doesn't have a fantasy team. Drunks buy Ripple, not Chateau Lafite, 1787 - $156,450. The "Hobbyist" market makes up a much larger financial set. -
Treat your gear like you (should) treat your wife. You bought a cow. Why are you still trying to find a nipple to get milk from? I have fully functional gear. It does everything I need it to do - otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Why would I give a flying lollipop over what else is available.

Where else would you put it? That's like Pedals 101

update - as in bug fixes but most people mean upgrade, as in free stuff. In the case of an upgrade, they had to "consolidate" information to make the last round of changes. I don't think any further upgrades are possible.

Finger slip - meaning accidentally click something. I used to do it all the time, then I turned "tap to click" off.

Did you install Monkey?

Using a car analogy... If all you are doing is driving from the garage to the end of the driveway to pick up your mail and then pulling back up into the garage - do you need a shiny italian sports car? Using a computer story... How fast does your internet need to be if you intend on checking your email?

But don't be alarmed if you still hear your guitar. There are certain units that do not get muted. All effects get bypassed and the volume gets dropped to 1. Which is better than the alternative, but it is isn't a true mute.

For the most part, I use the same patches. I do have specific patches for specific guitars and songs (it is a job requirement). I mean, you aren't going to use a BC Rich Warbeast to play a Hank Williams. Nor would Martin D-50 be used to play Slayer. But in general, my theory is... I have a standardized process for making patches and setting volumes and etc. I make a patch using my baseline and then the guitars bring out the differences. That is why we have different guitars - they are different than each other. If you make a patch with, as example, distortion set to 8 (out of 10). Switch to a "hot" guitar to get a heavier sound. Switch to a mellow guitar to get a clean tone. But, as mentioned in above - We aren't you, we aren't going to be able to answer the question. But, most likely, you will need to tweak. Probably even make an entire new set of patches.

And on the opposite side of the equation stands me... Because I have a fully function unit that does everything I need it to do, I haven't even bothered trying other gear. Chasing technology is a race you cannot win. Sure, I have 7 of them stashed in various parts of the country so that I don't need to travel with them to my regular locations. But, technologically speaking, they are the same unit. You can absolutely make fantastic tone with the HD500 (and the 3 sibling units). The question then becomes: 1. How lazy are you? because all of these units require work. The old ones, such as the HD500, require more work than the newer ones. That is simply how technology works. 2. what kind of tone do you want? The HD500 is limited to 8 effects and 2 amps. It is also limited in the fact that you can only run 2 signal chains (which does not equal 16 effects and 4 amps). If you need more, you cannot make the tone you need with it. If you are sitting there thinking "who needs 8 effects", then you do not need the newer units that allow for 100. 3. Can you really not justify buying the "big buck units"? If you absolutely had your heart set on it, you would find a way. Mentally, and financially.

Of course, the other thing to consider is... How do you know that it isn't your computer that is coloring the sound? Is your pc setup for Full Range Flat Response? If not, you aren't going to hear the same tone if you get one of the above solutions.
-
The ultimate goal is to be using the same PA that you play through as you do creating sounds. Short of that.... Look for things labeled FRFR. Maybe buy some studio monitors. Many keyboard amps are useful. Acoustic guitar amps are often good, but not if you are playing bass. Samick had a series called MASS, which was a small pa system in a combo amp design. Much better than using "pa on a stick". Maybe you can skip the amp and go direct to the pa, then get fed back through the same monitors that the vocals and keyboards use - or some personal in ear monitors instead of the wedge monitors that make for good foot rests for doing rock star poses. See, if you go direct to the pa, then you can even use your current rig to hear yourself. Sure, the tone will be different than what the crowd hears, but that's ok because the crowd is hearing what they are meant to hear.

Can somebody help me out with how the switching works?
pianoguyy replied to naylor_novelis's topic in POD HD
You set your patches. Any on/off are considered changes/edits and will not be stored unless saved. *worth mentioning - if you make changes (on purpose or accident) you can reset the patch simply by clicking on the patch. no need to leave and come back. just click, as example, 8 and 8 will come back. -
finger slip?

We aren't talking about the price difference between a $12,000 Gibson and a $800 Gibson. We are talking about a $25 device. I mean, sure, the Pod isn't going to know where the power is coming from. But think about it - if someone is so "beginner" that they need to come here asking if a device will work, or if they need an explanation as to how power supplies work... they shouldn't be buying anything other than the official device.

WRONG. FOH, particularly in small venues, need to take the acoustic environment into consideration. If your drummer or bassist turn up, even if they are not coming through the pa, they are still changing what the room hears. You adjusting your monitors to hear yourself on stage doesn't change the fact that you are being drowned out in the rest of the room.

sTUCK hOW DO i TURN MY hd500x ON? HD500X BASICS
pianoguyy replied to AudioWaveDasher's topic in POD HD
Maybe that is where me being a store owner and seeing many devices come in and out, instead of being the owner of individual devices, makes the difference. I see more issues with power buttons and internal power supplies than I do the external devices --- with the exception of user errors, like dropping them and rolling a 200 pound dolly over them.- 8 replies

Can you use a Line 6 Spider V as a speaker cabinet?
pianoguyy replied to Oscar_1506's topic in POD HD
There is always a way. The correct question is - how. The answer involves taking the units apart and rewiring them to each other. Did you want to do that?
