Just a heads up.... What hurghanico posted is a standard electric guitar being made to sound like a synth. It is not a Variax. Nor is it a Synth using the HD500. If you were looking for patches to use on a synth, they can be found somewhere else.
-
Then I am lollipop out of ideas. Because you already said what was going to be 'round two' of suggestions: make sure the headphones work on a different unit. make sure sure other headphones work on the 500.

The exp pedal can control a good number of items at the same time. With their own min and max values. Even reverse values (such as, volume goes up while pitch goes down). So, yes, you can absolutely use it as a fade between clean and fuzz. It can also control various expects of the pitch, but I don't know if it can do what you specifically said because I never tried.

make sure that the plug has 2 rings on it. make sure it is plugged in all the way. and make sure your patch isn't a one sided patch.
-
Will your pedal work? --- I don't know. Someone else can answer that one. But I wanted to make comment because you said that you won't need a second exp pedal. Don't be so sure. Until you get the unit you won't know of all the little tweaks you can make. A second exp pedal can come in handy. Me, I came from an Art X15, which had two exp pedals. So maybe I had just grown accustomed. But, I think the amount of features that can be adjusted ,,, you may not need a 2nd pedal (or 60 amp models), but it is definitely nice to have them if you do.

Just plug it in that way. There's no diagram needed. The one issue you may run into is if you are running stereo sounds, because you didn't exactly state if you were going to be running into a stereo or mono system. Even that isn't an issue. You just may not hear everything.

???? I ran a Peavey Bandit 65 (solid state, 65 watt, 1x12) for years. Almost 3 decades. I never had a problem hearing myself on 'local' stages. It was only the football stadium gigs that they brought in more power for me. It just baffles me seeing people talking about the kind of volume they need for a corner pub.

Have you assigned the exp pedal to the volume pedal?

If I am reading that right... The XLR (which contains both acoustic guitar and mic) goes into the mic. Electric guitar into 'guitar in' then when designing patches 1. you would need to set you the input source to guitar(1) and mic(2) 2. you would need a dual signal path. 3. leave the left/right centered. it would look something like this:

Just a random question ---- If you already have a fully functional unit, why are you trying to spend money you don't have on another one? Especially one that you apparently have no clue what it is or what it does (otherwise you wouldn't be here asking about its quality).

That's because you are listening to 50 year old men do note-for-note and tone-for-tone, songs. It's like going to see Rocky Horror on Broadway vs the movie. Some of those professionals lose 'life' because they are so precise with what they are doing. Haven't you ever gone to see a revue? Or bought an album from The Countdown Singers? Every note is so perfect. But, it sounds awful.

Dagnabbit I tried a variax guitar today
pianoguyy replied to shredjsx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I think it is obvious you can unplug your Variax and plug in a guitar (although there are many patches that are don't play unless you adjust the input settings). I am referring to the programming. Using the programmability of the unit to help make your sound. Some of you look at it as using the various pickup configurations to get a sound you want. I am looking at it as just another setting that can be tweaked to get your sound. You lose that setting when you goto a standard guitar. I guess, what I am trying to say would be the equivalent of using a model pack to make your sound and giving the patch to someone that doesn't have the model pack. The sound just is not going to be there. But sure, you guys that think - I made a patch that used 3 single coils I can make it sound the same by using a Strat, or I made an acoustic patch I can use an standard acoustic guitar if I am ever without my Variax... that is different scenario. -

pianoguyy replied to shredjsx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have not bought a Variax. And I will tell you why.... I would want to buy a guitar because it is a guitar. I do not want to buy a guitar because it has a piece of technology in it. If L6 released the technology (pickups, wiring, etc) so that I could install it on my guitars, then I would consider it. But I am not about to give up my Glow In The Dark Frankenstein, my Silver Glitter - or any of the 100 guitars I have, so that I can have a piece of technology that is only available in 2 guitars. I can put 3 single coils on a Gibson Les Paul to make it sound like a Fender Stratocaster. That doesn't make it feel like one. Just sound like one. I can play my GLP without any pickups at all, it doesn't make it an acoustic guitar. Buy a guitar because you like the guitar. The other thing to consider is: Once you integrate a Variax into your patches, will you ever be able to use a standard guitar again? Wouldn't that just suck - needing a set of patches just for the Variax, and a set for standard guitars. -
Hi I just got a gig where everyone plays congas but since they invented the guitar, I thought maybe I would buy a guitar to keep up with the times. Does anyone have any videos of big breasted women? Dude, regardless of what is available, they use the 500. That is what you need to use too. --- assuming that they all use 500's and share patches back and forth to make sure everyone sounds the same and can be sync'd with the midi gear. It's a totally different scenario if they just happen to all use the 500 but are still letting everyone program their own stuff.
-
No need for converting them, unless you run into that one particular patch that doesn't work. Just a 'drag and drop' is fine. NOTE: All 500 patches should work on the 500x. Almost all 500x patches will work on the 500 There is a very slight DSP increase in the X, so it is possible that a few won't work. Should you run into one that gives a dsp error, you can open the patch in EDIT while in 'offline mode' to delete one fx block (I usually go with fx loop or volume pedal). As long as it is a DSP error and not a corrupted file, removing one block will make it work.
-
I've told numerous people, that if you aren't using the modeling, then you are paying too much for the unit and to just go buy an fx unit. HOWEVER... We are now looking at $200 for the HD500x on the used market because of Helix has been released and everyone is dumping the 'old hunks of junk'. So I didn't tell this guy not to waste his money.

And move slow. Not turtle slow. But you aren't trying to disco-wah the pedal.

Using Opera in private(incognito/do not track/etc) mode: If I have signed into Yahoo at any time during my session, even if logged out, I cannot log in here using this link http://line6.com/support/forum/18-pod-hd/ it will crash Opera. The page itself works. I can click the sign in link. But if I enter my info and try to log in, crash. I can open a post and sign in there just fine. I can open Opera, log in to the forums and then open Yahoo. But I cannot do yahoo first. It has been this way for months. It did it for about a week, then it stopped doing it after an Opera update. Then one day it started again. And it hasn't stopped since.

Prior to the HD500 replacing it, my rig was built over a 10 year period, and wasn't updated in over 20 years. But everything ran straight in to one another. There was no fx loops or patch bays being used. One unit was plugged right into the next. All my amp did was supply volume and reverb (I thought it had excellent 80's reverb). Of course, today we know that it is because certain fx go before the amp and others go after. Back then, all I knew was fx reverb wasn't as good as the amp reverb. The point is, yes, you can plug things straight into an amp and make it sound good. But you have to make all of your gear work together. You don't just take a great sound amp and a great sound fx unit and then stick them together and have great sound. They need to work together. *** Slash auditioned for Poison but didn't get the job. Was Slash not good enough? Bret said he was a good guitarist but not a good fit for the band. Two units need to work together to become one.

I have no idea what that is, which is why I asked. I didn't realize it was a product name. However, I am going to agree with the above: It's not like on a pc where you can install all of the software and drivers. Stuff like this is pre programmed and isn't going to run on what it is not made to run on.

I don't 4cm, so I wouldn't know if there is tone suck or not. I would take a gander and propose that if I was going to use 4cm that I would adjust my tones to adjust for any sucking that was going on. But I digress... Is there tone suck when using two cords? The honest answer is yes. All cables will add an amount of suck to tone regardless of the gear it is heading in to. That is why you read articles about guys saying that they use 1 foot cords in the studio - it gives the best tone. Here's what I can tell ya. I am a lifelong full time professional musician. I had a rig that I used for over 20 years. The HD500 replaced it. I am sometimes backlined and therefore don't use my own stuff, but when I do, I am using the HD500 with no complaints (once you learn how to use it). I don't know what more to say in regards to the tone.

Which is why I said that we were both right. I was talking about that one, and you were talking about another one.
