just picked up an mkII 112, how could they discontinue these?

Old doesn't sell, even if it is good. People want new things to buy and companies want to make money selling to them . It's that simple. -
One thing that bothers me about guitars jammed with electronics
wilson69978 replied to Topaz's topic in Variax Standard
Well the only draw back I have found with my new rig,(Jtv 69, hd500x, amplifi75) is that it has severely cut into my practice time. After all, I do consider myself a musician first and not a tech geek. I suspect things will balance out soon enough. Thanks to all you great Folks I am actually starting to make headway, and I am finding consistency in the Levels of my different presets. JTV... live long and prosper! Lol! -
Holy cow Batman, looks like everyone needs to take a deep breath! Lol. I will steer clear of commenting here.

Hello friends: I tried with no luck to get good acoustic guitar modelling thru my tube amp. I was advised by many on the forum that FRFR (full range , flat response ) speakers were the way to go. Well I already had the amplifi75 amp in my stockpile and decided to try it out with the Jtv and the hd500x. I used the no amp setting with the amplif app. I applied some mild compression and some eq and was quite happy with the results. I also used no amp modelling on the hd 500x. The realism of the acoustic models was very much improved. If anyone has the same equipment give it a try and see what you think. By the way, it sounded great going to the amplifi75 without the pod as well.

JTV 69 has a squeaky tremelo bar
wilson69978 replied to wilson69978's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Thanks for your reply cruisin on 2. I will try your advice. -
HI folks. My new JTV 69 is great, just one little annoying problem. When I release it after I use it, it squeaks a bit. It is very minor and I bet no one but me notices it; ... but it bugs me. Do you think it would hurt to put a drop of light machine oil on the threads... or is this a bad idea? Just to clarify, when I say "AFTER I USE IT" I mean to say it squeaks while I am actively using it while playing.

New to the Pod HD500X Advise on patch construction

Good point Duncann and one often overlooked I feel. -
Hello Hamiltone: It does not seem to be supported any more. I looked on the line 6 support / down loads page , and don't see any new software listed for the flex tone III.

New to the Pod HD500X Advise on patch construction
wilson69978 replied to Antman74's topic in POD HD
Hello Antman , the experts on this forum will not steer you wrong, they give great advice. The only thing I have to add from the perspective of a newby, is that this is a complex device and it does take time to fully understand how it works. Unless you are extremely tech savy, and also very knowledgeable about guitar effects signal paths, you have a fairly big learning curve to contend with. Don't let that stop you, it is great fun and an excellent tool for those who are curious, and or love to tweak their sound. A great way to learn is to pick a preset sound you like and go into the edit screens to see how it has been put together. You may be very surprised with what you find out. My last tid bit is this. When it comes to effects, less is usually more. Having said that, there are no real rules, and rules are meant to be broken are they not! LoL Have fun my friend. A little trick I learned is this... If you are using the edit software on your computer you can save the preset you are working on by dragging it to your desktop. If you get a lot of tones on the desktop like this, organize them in a folder on the desktop. Later you can open the folder and drag and drop them back into your own set list in any order you want in the editing software . Don't forget to save the set list. Use a pencil and paper to lay out what you are trying to do, and stay focused. -
My unit is just over a month old and it works fine. I did notice that the nav button seemed a bit more "flimsy" shall we say, than I expected. However it seems to work fine on my unit. I would take it back straight away, don't sit on the problem hoping it will go away. I am assuming you have read and followed all the correct procedures that come in the guide and are also posted on the line6 website. If not, do so, then check how it functions. If you truly believe the button is too loose you could compare it to another one in the store as well.

Cruisin on 2, You got that right, LOL.

I believe what you say to be true Amsdenj, I have seen my mixes go from mud, to sitting nicely just by tweaking the eq. As I am sure you know the pan setting is very important in separating instruments in a mix as well. I use Logic Pro so it is fairly easy to see and tweak the eq of any given track. Maybe a lot of this level chaos, and getting lost in a live band situation could be relieved if people in bands set aside one rehearsal for the sole purpose of finding where each instrument should sit in the frequency spectrum for the best over all sound of the band. After all if you are in a band, you want your sound the best it can be for everyone's sake.

Thank you edstar1960: I knew I had read this somewhere in the manual too. By the way I traded up to the hd500x from the hd 400 , because of this excellent ability to program your own fx parameters to the expression pedal , and sweep an effect parameter. It really was a short coming on the 400 model.

Ghost notes in Drop tunings

Ghost notes in Drop tunings
wilson69978 replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Ok, you guys are all gonna think I am nuts but... If you drop the tuning digitally with the roller knob, the string on the guitar is still vibrating in standard tuning; but the amplified sound is vibrating in a different frequency so all the natural overtones are unsympathetic . Imagine playing in the key of E and trying to sing in Eb. It just doesn't work does it. I noticed this yesterday when I was playing at a very low volume, my ears were hearing both the standard tuning from the guitar and the altered tuning from the amp. I thought the guitar was messed up until I realized what I was actually hearing. Now imagine playing loud, the frequencies coming from the amp would not blend and re enforce the string vibrations but would clash. In some tunings the overtones could cause phase cancellation, or phase re enforcement which could cause uneven string volume. Some stings or notes would seem louder and some softer. My solution is to pick your tuning variation, and adjust the volume as best you can in workbench. this is just a little something to think on. Feel free to yea, or nay my comment. -
For further info on the master volume control see the pod hd 500 x quick start guide pg. 7 and 8, item#12. It refers to best practices for recording . It recommends using the highest setting possible on the master volume without causing clipping . (Digital distortion) Also when connecting to recording, mixing and other studio gear, be sure you are plugging 1/4 inch out puts ( if that is what you are using for the outputs) to line level, and not mic or guitar level inputs. So it is recommending that you set the pod master volume high and the inputs of any audio interfaces to minimum level for the best signal to noise ratio from the pod hd. Make sure the 1/4 out switch on the top of the unit is in the appropriate position as well...(line or amp) Hope this helps a few people. P.S. - I did not see this tid bit in the advanced manual so, I posted this, in case some of you missed it in the pilot guide.

I'm sorry, this is where I draw the line. I love my apple computing devices but I think this watch is just plain ridiculous. What's next , apple socks that trace where you walked all day?

Life was so much simpler when I was fifteen and knew 3 chords. And F was an impossible chord to play! Lol.

Help with mag pickup hum
wilson69978 replied to Nos402's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
What am I missing here? Just use a noise gate with the mags. Or am I oversimplifying things again? -
I don't worry about electronic stuff failing. I have been buying electronic music gear since the early eighties. only one thing I have bought has failed, and that was some pot or fader on a mixing board. (Can't remember exact problem) Mind you I am an avid amateur, not a pro on the road, and I take care of my stuff best I can. I have owned lots of different midi keyboards, stand alone effects, and synths etc, all have been good!

Part 2 of my POD HD500X Demonstration Video now uploaded
wilson69978 replied to PeterJH's topic in POD HD
Whoa! That was an awesome video Peter. Not only do you know what you are doing, you can explain it in an easy to understand manner. So refreshing, because often you are still scratching your head after some of these online videos. Thank so very much for your excellent video.
