Line 6 Helix - The Set Of All Settings (SOAS) Project
surfsup1955 replied to Noobian_Prince's topic in Helix
You had mentioned per your link, further in your methods, where you culled out user presets based on how they sounded to you. And that of course, being how they sounded using your gear. I have faith that many of those presets were totally righteous in their owners environment. I was a functional developer for industrial chemical tracking systems. Narrowing down to the needs for hundreds of large facilities with thousands of users is not easy. Keep up the good work, I look fwd to keeping up with this thread. -
Great product, thanks!

Line 6 Helix - The Set Of All Settings (SOAS) Project

Great effort regarding an interesting idea. It might even be possible that your batch of SOASs, would be as close as it gets to delivering starting points that would deliver the narrowest range (tonally) of user acceptability/like ability. Overcoming the massive variations in outboard equipment being used out there in the Helix universe is impossible to get your arms around, as you know, but again, your SOAS process should tighten that variable significantly. Your 2nd post, wow. Congrats! -
Spent all morning yesterday with the Derailed Ingrid, that alone is worth the upgrade. Gonna start spending time with the Cartographer and EP stuff today.

So after a nice long Holiday with family, I'm back to the Helix 2.30 and I discover the unit version 2.30 factory presets we're overwritten by my backup - all of which is covered in this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/30531-cautions-about-230s-new-full-backup-feature/ So I won't go over any of it again. Just putting it here because there's several threads regarding 2.30 now.

As others mentioned, that's how we used to do it, but the new Updater supposedly doesn't require this step. So, YES, I skipped it based on following the new procedure. At STEP 3, I don't think that the Helix Updater ever deleted my global settings, IRs or presets? After I had to manually reboot it out of a frozen state, Helix just rebuilt the factory presets to 2.30. However, everything seemed to work fine. After some thought, to be safe I did go back and perform the 2 basic resets (FS 8+9, followed with FS 9+10), which gave me a factory clean 2.30 machine (verified). Using the new editor I restored my backup again, which worked fine.

Almost perfect for my update - way easier than all prior updates. My set up is: iMac OS, High Sierra 10.13.1 Here's how the steps below actually worked for me: 2. Connect Helix to your computer and launch HX Edit. From the File pull-down menu, select “Create Backup…†Follow the prompts to create a full-state backup of your Helix (Global Settings, IRs, setlists, and presets). Worked FIne. 3. Close HX Edit, open Line 6 Updater, and follow the prompts to update your Helix's firmware. Worked Fine Helix will begin rebuilding presets. Wait for this process to complete. Waited @ 15 minuted but this never happened, just blank screen and scribble strips. At this point I had to shut down the Helix and restart. On restart it rebuilt the presets. 4. Close Line 6 Updater, reopen HX Edit, and from the File pull-down menu, select “Restore From Backup…†Follow the prompts to restore Helix to its previous state. For some reason my Helix was already restored - but I did it again anyway just to be sure. 5. Remove the old Helix application from your computer. It won't work with 2.30 firmware anyway. Complied :)

I get rid of them.

I’m close to 2 years in with my Helix and am now seriously ready to part with my tube, analog and various other digital gear. The Helix is all I ever turn on any more..

When will we see new models and firmware for helix??

UNDO!!! UNDO!!! UNDO!!! -
I'm finding my 180w Fishman Loudbox using the aux in reproduces my studio monitors very well. I would like to A/B it with a proper FRFR.
-
I wish I had know that all of my tube amps and analog pedals would get lonely and unused. I keep thinking I need to sell a lot of stuff - but will probably just keep dusting it off...
-
No idea? They drag into the editor and show up, just like any other IR on mine.
-
Every time I consider getting shed of my early 70s and 80s valve amps and analog pedals - something like this pops up and I'm healed. They're staying home. I hope Line 6 will chime in..
-
I'd keep the 2i2, I still use mine for keyboards, vocals, and as another selectable DAW audio device when mixing and monitoring projects.
-
Beautiful! Congrats on that decision. Always wanted one myself, but I seem to always cheap out when it comes time to pull the trigger.

I should have clarified, I was recommending that to the starter of this topic, or to anyone consider Fremen's stuff.
-
Agree, this includes Fremens, Glenn's, Marco's, and a few from Worship Tutorial. But they were all fun to dig into and learn from and I was glad to support all of them. Also provided me an opportunity to see how different ears compare via my studio gear. Fremen's working on a new set so you might want to see when that's coming out.

I'm already prepping the Helix for the event. Getting much better at the long agonizing process...

In my mind, it's similar to a plugin within a DAW. Since Line 6 develops all of the intrinsic data of their cabs (their native IRs) they can provide control parameters (mics, speakers, distances, angle, etc) in the form of a "cab" "plugin". When you buy an Ownhammer IR pack, you wind up with hundreds of files (mics, speakers, distances, angles, etc) broken down into several folders, which we all know is a PITA to deal with in Helix. However, all of those files could (possibly) become a single Helix Cab with the same basic ease of controllability. I vision a win/win/win market for this if the Line 6 business dept working along with the 3rd parties did a little brainstorming? Another example of what I'm talking about would be the Torpedo Wall of Sound III plugin. I used to use that plugin in Logic Pro but Helix has taken over my DAW and won't give it back :).

+1 ensure the bright switch is on..

OK, that is really weird. But thanks for taking the time to verify.

Thank you sir! All of the snapshot patches from Fremen are acting similarly on my rig... hmmm? I've loaded them as setlists and individually just to see if the setlists were corrupt. No diff. I have no issues with any snapshot presets from any other source including my own. I'll try to email Fremen to discuss. Again, thanks.

The M13 was my first and only other Line 6 product, I still have it and use it at church. It's a great product both tonally and ease of use - it's functionality and layout is simple and smart (like the Helix), it really got my attention re Line 6 gear.

Nothing to lose, you can send it back if you don't like it. I would recommend you take the time to do the update to 2.11 while in your tryout period. The first 1 or 2 times you update the Helix, you might get a bit flustered, but if you follow their steps exactly, the learning curve is quick. I had not played around with any of the factory presets much since first buying mine last year, but just the other night I went back and noodled around with some of their updated sounds in Ver 2.11 and I can tell a significant difference via my DAW and monitors, more of the factory presets are totally usable 'as is' now. Have fun, let us know what you think!?
