That’s probably good advice. I reckon I should figure out the status of my warranty... I will follow up with anything that develops.

It has never happened while I was connected to HX Edit. I do the vast majority of my editing from the onboard interface. I can however confirm that HX Edit does reflect the loss of all assignments after-the-fact.

Anybody encounter this one? I've encountered it three times now in the last couple of weeks and it's got me pulling my hair out. I'm in a patch making edits, saving as I go, everything is hunky dory, and suddenly "POOF", every footswitch/expression pedal assignment that changes a parameter of any block is GONE. Nothing does anything. The brackets are gone from the parameter values and nothing works. In every instance the saved version is messed up, so reloading it does nothing. The interesting thing is that it seems to know that there USED to be assignments because if I touch a footswitch it will move around between the parameters that were assigned to it. But what the values were is lost. I'm essentially stuck re-building the patch from scratch. And it's a big PITA. I'm not playing live these days, but I hate to think how such a "hiccup" would affect a guys set...

Sounds great!

I thought we had already established that NOBODY can do Andy Summers? With regards to surfy tones, I’m going to say that there is only one place that Helix has disappointed me and that is in the spring reverb. It does not get as springy/drippy as I would like. I run a Malekko Spring Chicken in an FX Loop and all is right with the world. I recorded some comparisons a while back. There are three tracks here: one with the Malekko, one with Helix’s Spring Reverb, and one with Helix’s ‘63 Spring Reverb. They are all the same dry track re-amped, so the only change is the reverb. Hope it helps some! https://soundcloud.com/vb-tunes/sets/malekko-spring-chicken-with-line-6-helix

Don’t forget to break occasionally for food and hydration. Enjoy!

WTF, O?

I found myself wondering about exactly that a couple of years (!?!) ago. Some good reading for you here:
-
I don’t use it at all, but only because it is not currently assignable by preset. All of my presets are guitar-specific and remembering which ones I need to manually switch the pad on/off for is just impractical. I actually like how it helps me dial in humbucker tones, and if I could assign it per preset, for instance if it lived in the input block like the gate, I would use it. But I can’t. So I dont.

Well said!

I don’t understand your angle, man. No body here is telling you that the AXFX 3 is junk or that you are foolish for liking it, in fact to the contrary everybody seems to be saying that you should totally be going with whatever you like. Why all the effort to convince us that Helix is inferior? What’s in it for you? It is possible to express an opinion without making it a mission to convert everybody who doesn’t share it...

I’m not any kind of a “fan boy”, I’ll happily be wow’d by a piece of gear that is better than what I have, but nothing in that demo wow’d me. It all sounded great, to be sure, but I didn’t hear anything that was in another league from Helix. But, to each their own of course. I will say that the tracks posted by Cruisinon2 and Phil sound mighty fine to me, and that the Pete Thorn demo is what sold me on Helix. I saw that and bought one the next weekend. Have not GAS’d for another modeler at all in the time since... For what it’s worth, I get my hearing tested every year for work and the doc says my ears are just fine. Although my wife occasionally disagrees...

I did what you describe with my Helix Floor by configuring the block in question to bypass based on an expression pedal position, then setting the 3PDT toe switch on my expression pedal up with a resistor to simulate a position. The expression pedal then goes to one of your EXP inputs and that EXP controls the effect parameter(s), and the switch goes to the other EXP and is assigned to the bypass. I described the whole thing here: https://line6.com/support/topic/26725-toe-switching-with-an-external-exp-pedal/ Not sure how that will translate to HX Stomp, but that's the idea. Hope it helps!

Anyone else need more volume from headphone output?
Verne-Bunsen replied to Thurston9's topic in Helix
The main output levels are not controlled by the headphone level, but if the levels were unusually low there as well then it would indicate an issue with the levels / gain staging within the signal chain of the preset. However if those levels are good and you are getting insufficient volume at the headphones, I’d suspect an issue with the headphones themselves or with your Helix’s headphone amp. I use the same headphones and rarely go past 50% volume. -

I use the same headphones and there is plenty of volume on tap. How are the levels going to a monitor or into your DAW? -
I beieve that “Helices” is technically correct. However, “Double Helix” has a certain ring...
-
This is a good question, and it is exactly the kind of detail that must be considered when comparing your amp-and-pedalboard rig to your Helix rig. If the pedals were always in the chain going to your amp and your amp was dialed in accordingly, that is different from putting them in Helix’s switchable loops, setting the amp without them in the chain, and then switching them in.
-
Cool, thanks for your reply. I look forward to checking them out whenever they drop. Always fun to check out new stuff, and it’s cheaper than a new pedal, haha!
-
I’m intrigued. Will you be posting other cab configurations (1x12, 2x12, 4x10)?
-
I agree with you. I run spring reverb and tremolo between the Deluxe and the IR because it’s closer than having it in front, but it sho’nuff isn’t the same as having it between the pre-and power amp. I would love the option, however it were most feasible to implement it. Not holding my breath though, I think their to-do list is pretty full as it is....
-
I for one am stoked about the Tweed Deluxe, and I only satisfy two out of three of the descriptors in “resentful old wankers”. But I’m not ready to admit which two...

I dunno, I’ve done all the tinkering I could manage with drivers and configurations, it just keeps telling me there is no device connected. All is well with it on my Mac though, so I’m just sticking to that for now. Sorry, wasn’t trying to derail the thread, just making a quip figuring others could probably relate. Doesn’t work so well with a target audience of 1, haha!
-
Well, it’s what HX Edit is supposed to do. No issues on my Mac, but my Windows 10 machine simply will not see it.

This is an unfortunate reality for now, and often a topic of conversation. You just have to settle on what information you must have and what format will still be intelligible to you next week. Don’t forget: when you export your IRs to back them up they will end up sorted alphabetically. So if you want everything to go back to the slot where it started you’ll have to give up precious characters to put the the slot number in the name, too.
