  1. check this out regards BIAS - https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/permalink/487916608058684/?comment_id=487967321386946&ref=notif&notif_t=group_comment_reply
  2. I have a pair of Aesis Alpha 112s, similar to the Alto TS112s. They sound awesome and have a ton of headroom. Won't wreck your bank account either. Generally roll off the bass at 110-120 and some high cut but they can do it all and carry the full mix too. Also run into my DT25 with either a 1X12 Eminence Guvnor or my 2X12 with a Vintage 30 and a Guvnor. Just fantastic and in a wet/dry/wet rig with the Alesis its off the charts...
  3. just food for thought but I experienced the exact same thing with my DT25. What i found was the full amp models are much more consistent and actually sound MUCH better than the preamps by themselves. Don't be tied to the preamps just because you are 4 CM. Give the full amp models a try, you can always make adjustments to master, sag, bias, etc. to get the tone you want. In the end the only thing that matters is how it sounds blasting out of your cabs...
  4. To be fair though, isn't the AX8 simply another piece of hardware using the existing software? They didn't have to create all new stuff for it...
  5. As a long time Line 6 user based on past history I think its fairly certain they will be adding new models of amps and effects as time passes even if they can't legally confirm it. Since Yamaha bought them they have become subject to pretty strict SEC rules on what they can announce as a public company. However, I don't think their philosophy of growth and improvement has changed one bit...
  6. Just to be clear, you are using the Angl preamp as a stomp box into another Full amp model? Interesting, I'll have to try that. What models are you running it into?
  7. There is no way to do exactly what you are asking. However, I did make this patch for someone else that asked the same thing and its as close as you will get. The switches are sequential left to right. The clean stays on all the time but if you kick on the crunch or dirty it cuts off the other two. BUT, you will have to kick them off as you go back. Either way, there is only one amp on at a time even if all 3 switches are lit up. You will have to load it up to see what I mean, its not that complicated. Feel free to change amps and play with it. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1610248/
  8. Line 6 has put out plenty of SS amp heads and combos but the idea of the DT series was to provide the tube power section that so many had been asking for to complement the HD500. It was always marketed as part of the Dream Rig which combines the Variax guitars with the POD HD and the DT amp all linked with a digital connection. It is a fantastic amp and offers a huge amount of flexibility. It stands up quite well on its own too since it has the HD modeling built in and the M series reverb. Interestingly, if you really liked how it sounded it is the exact same modeling that's in the POD HD500 line. Maybe you should revisit it, there is a huge difference between modelers and the older ones simply aren't in the same league. As to the comment about LVM turning off the tubes, not true at all. There is no SS amp stage in the DT. The tubes must be on and working to get any sound out. All LVM does is use the full amp model instead of the preamp model to add some of the beef you may be losing at lower volumes.
  9. the only other time the DT overrides the HD is in LVM where the DT "enforces" a full amp model over the preamp model to make up for the lower volume settings. I liked having the reverb available in the DT for the odd time a patch ran out of DSP. I could just offload the reverb to the DT instead.
  10. I believe the dual cab option is stereo. And the Helix manual on page 19 really doesn't specify cabs so much as amps and preamps collapsing to mono. You need to look for the stereo icon (dual interlocking rings) Keep the following things in mind when building tones: • All Amp+Cab, Amp, and Preamp blocks are mono, so any stereo signal sent into these will be collapsed to mono. As such, it’s a good idea to add only mono blocks before amps and preamps • Adding a mono effects block will collapse any preceding stereo blocks on the same path to mono • If you’re only ever connecting Helix to the front of a single guitar amp or PA/FRFR speaker, there may be no need to use stereo models at all (except, of course, for models that are only offered as stereo!)
  11. sounds like its time for in ear monitors... not cheap but worth it in the long run.
  12. As Phil said... huge variance in the Android devices and their actual Android OS build. Some builds do not support it within the kernel, even if the hardware does. My new Kindle Fire has hardware support but the Fire OS isn't capable. Android 5.0 is supposed to support it but after talking to the support guys at some of the app companies, it is a crappy integration. 3rd party drivers are the best but don't help if the kernel won't support. I may have to root it with a new OS. The new Fire is only $49, a real bargain if I can get it to work...
  13. oh I understand. Just wouldn't have thought in terms of hardware that it would have cost anything to keep it. Unfortunately, streaming from anything Android is still hit or miss as USB audio support is not constant. None of my devices actually do it. Not always convenient to keep a laptop nearby but that is where I am headed. Getting a used iPad is an option but who knows...
  14. right, so instead I have to waste 2 of the 4 FX loops just to insert a stereo audio signal...
  15. never had that happen as you described it, totally sucks. Backup is usually done to your computer using the Helix app, pretty simple to export the setlist or the bundle. If you press Action, there is an option to Clear Block and another to Clear All Blocks. Don't know, but possibility? I usually save a patch I've been working on to a different setlist just to be safe before shutting down. Hit Save once, dial in new location and hit Save again.
  16. With everything Helix offers, I don't get why they didn't add the MP3/CD input. Yeah I know the USB thing works, if you bring your laptop or have an Apple product. Still...
  17. Yeah, its not a flight case for sure. I want the top off every time as mine stays mounted and I didn't have any loose rivets. For the price you can't beat it but you may want something more sturdy for banging around...
  18. 1) How can I configure the Helix to send stereo signals to the 2 DT50s? In my HD500, there was a menu for this. I don't see anything in Helix. As far as I can tell, the two amps are running in Mono. Also, to take advantage of the MIDI controls, I imagine I must also route a MIDI cable from Helix to DT50 #1 to DT50 #2 also, correct? - I don't think you can configure automatic stereo separation with L6 link like you could with the HD500 yet. I could be wrong. You may have to use a 1/4 out to each DT FX Return along with your midi cable. Yes you would need to route to the second DT for it to work properly. 2) When I first got the Helix, I connected it to one of my DT50s via L6. It sounded awful. I was so discouraged I was ready to return the Helix! Or sell my DTs and get a FRFR amp. But I saw this posting which saved the day. I downloaded radatat's setlist and wow, it sounds so much better. So after a bit of experimenting, here's what I've found: a. my setup sounds best with everything off in the DT50 except the cab. For example, on my Plexi patch I like the greenback 25s. On my Essex 30 patch I like the Silverbells. Some patches sound best with cab off too. - so you like the DT cab models?? b. If I turn off everything on the DT and use a full amp or amp+cab, or even amp with separate cab, for some reason it sounds like the sound is going through an AM radio. I'm perplexed that some of you are getting good sounds with full amp models. What am I doing wrong? What is your setup? - with everything off in the DT to my ears it sounds best using the full amp models. The cabs and IR's take something off but it may just be that they are about 6db quieter than when bypassed. If I turn the level up it sounds better. - I found once that my DT amp/cab remained ON even when sending the midi signals. I had no sound because the knobs were all zeroed and that's how I found it. Anyways I cycled the physical channel switch on the DT A-B-A and everything worked again. It sounded like crap with the DT stuff on. It has never sounded like going through an AM radio.
  19. short answer - Yes! unlike HD500, there are no global output parameters. All outputs can be configured separately. You can set up a patch to do both things you are asking for quite easily at the same time.
  20. Personally, I love the delays and the reverbs. Many models to choose from. Just as important though is the total flexibility of signal chain layout and FX placement. You can be inline serial or dual path parallel, multiple instances of reverb and/or delay in the same patch, and then hit a FS and another patch has everything completely rearranged. Not like the hours it would take to rearrange everything on your board. Sounds killer to me. No advantage to the rack for a gigging musician. Perhaps in the studio the little extras and IN/OUTs matter but then you have to buy the separate floorboard too and extra expression pedals,
  21. seriously, that is one of the biggest features. The programming capabilities are off the charts. You can set up FS to control FX, groups of effects, or just FX parameters like mix or depth. You can set up totally different amp/cab/FX chains within the same patch and switch between them. You can assign the expression pedal to control up to 64 different parameters to smoothly morph from clean to lead for example. If you love your Strymons you can put them in the Helix FX loops (2 stereo, 4 mono). You should definitely try it, it's a gamechanger...
  22. Wishing Peace, Joy, Harmony, Melody, Rhythm, Tone, Timing and Success to you and all the wonderful musicians on these boards that have helped me learn and grow over the years...
  23. I found the preamps were all over the map in terms of volume but the full amps were fairly close. I like the full amps with no cab best. In fact losing the Helix modeled power section takes away the very character of the amp you are modeling, even when running through the DT. You can play around with the master levels but I try to keep the Helix above 50%, even if I have to lower the DT. Line 6 recommends the Helix be up as high as possible to get the best signal to noise ratios. When possible I will keep the Helix maxed out and adjust on the DT. Contrary to some thoughts, raising the DT master level does not increase the "tubey"-ness...
  24. read the L6 Link Midi Guide and the Helix manual for details and use the command center. I posted a full setlist with all the amps, preamps and default cabs for use with the DT in another thread you can go through too. Check out my patches to see how I set the midi up. Very easy with Helix. http://share.myflare.com/hB549Z
