  1. Easy way to remember... In standalone mode the topology selects the amp model and configuration you have loaded. It does not change topology. With the HD500 via L6 link the amp is selected by the Pod and the topology switch actually changes the physical power section topology.
  2. Android as in using a tablet but you could use your phone if you didn't mind such a small screen and it was supported.
  3. I was trying to set up a portable recording solution for my Helix. Since I am not an Apple guy, no iPad, I was hoping for an Android solution. I found n-Track Studio for Android for $20 that does multi-track recording and the latest Kindle Fire with Android 5.0 for $49. Hooked it up to the Helix USB using an OTG cable and it recognizes the Helix in the audio setup. Only problem is it only shows zero for sample rate and buffer size. :( Other than that it looks great and has a ton of features. I really thought that since Helix was "class compliant" it would be a perfect solution. As it sits now, the guys at n-Track are trying to figure out the issue. They are waiting for a response from Line 6 so hopefully they will play nicely and get it resolved. I really don't want to drag a laptop around... Has anyone else been able to get a portable recording setup working over USB? Apple or Android? Or even just audio playback over USB with Android? BTW, even if it never works, the Fire is a steal at $49... ;)
  4. I also use the 3+1 path setup on a lot of my patches. I put the amp on path 1 and keep the cab/IR on path 2A to keep the 2 biggest DSP hogs separated. I can then use 2B for my Digitech Trio with a little reverb and/or compression.
  5. after reading a few posts on unity gain I turned the Alesis down to 25% and the Helix up to full. I had been running them at 75% with the Helix between 25-50%. The effect was MUCH improved. Clarity and definition improved across the spectrum. I was really surprised. I have to rebuild my patches now but I am looking forward to it.
  6. Trinity Chorus - Not the original manual but Fulltone made an exact replica and this one is pretty good. http://www.fulltone.com/sites/default/files/documents/TERC_manual_hiRez_6-23-2015.pdf Transistor Tape - maestro echoplex ep-3 http://www.amparchives.com/Amp%20Archives/Maestro-Echoplex/Owner's%20and%20Service%20Manuals/Owners%20and%20Service%20Manual%20For%20Maestro-Echoplex%20EP-4.pdf
  7. haven't locked it in yet... it does come with velcro but I may make a separate lift out board instead... too busy having fun and learning Helix at home for now
  8. from the Knowledge Base: Helix supports nearly all IRs in .WAV format. However, the Helix Edit application may automatically change its attributes before sending it to the Helix hardware: • Converts all .WAV IRs to 16-bit, 48kHz mono; when loading a stereo file, Helix Edit uses only the left side • Shortens (or lengthens) the IR to 2,048 samples. The user may choose a 1,024-sample version to save DSP, which fades out the IR halfway through I have not been able to load two 2048 IR's in the same path. They are too DSP intensive. You can load 2 1024 IR's or put 1 in path 1 and anther in path 2. Frankly, I think the Helix cabs are very good and with the range of mics and mic positions you can dial in a lot of variations. Still, nice to have options... http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/impulse-response-irs-r759
  9. I hooked up a new set of XLR's this weekend and set them to mic level out to the Alesis speakers. I set the Alesis volume about 1/2 on the mic side and it sounded really good. I can't explain why running the mic level to the speakers is apparently better than line level since the Alesis is designed to accept either level. Lots more to work out but they are keepers. I also set up a wet/dry/wet patch using the DT as the dry by sending a preamp signal to the FX return and a full amp signal with effects to the PA. Sadly the volume from the DT was too low since everything is controlled by the Helix output levels and it had to be up so high the PA was too much. Hopefully they will work out the L6 link in the near future as this could be amazing for live use. I am good with the Helix cabs but hearing a lot of guys getting great tones with Ownhammer IR's. I have a full set of Red Wires to try out but there are so damn many its going to be tough to work out. Between all the different cabs, the various mics and then the range of mic positions there are 20,000 files just in the 16bit 48K set... I know, first world problems... lol
  10. so after a couple of weeks playing with it and dealing with a pinched nerve I think I have it sorted out. I think there may actually be a vibration in the cab itself but it's not part of the signal path. It might be something else in the room buzzing that I haven't isolated yet. I am getting really nice tones and maybe the cabs are "breaking in" but its nowhere near what I was hearing in the beginning. I still have to get some new XLR cables to try that option but changing the 1/4 outs to instrument put the volumes a little more manageable for use at home. Lots more to work on and some more tests on my arm but so far so good and really happy with my setup now...
  11. They drop in the same order they are in file manager. Perhaps if they already have a numerical prefix to their name they will drop in a specific Helix slot but otherwise just sequentially as in file manager.
  12. That is not my experience. I selected ten to twenty at a time, no renaming and they transferred just as I described. Obviously others are having a different experience. Using Windows 10 on my laptop.
  13. you can select as many IR's as you want and drag them all into the editor at once. Just place your cursor at the first block you want to start loading them and they all drop in sequentially.
  14. I am using 1/4 outs to the Alesis for now. Will try to pick up some XLR tomorrow. The DT sounds fine...
  15. since yer feeling chippy, get on over to Sweetwater and take the 36 pay option... what do you say?
  16. Helix doesn't use output modes, you can send to multiple different outputs at the same time, unlike HD500...
  17. I haven't tried it with the DT yet so I'll have to do that this week and see if that is better... if not I have a lot of work to do... I've done the 3rd party IR's, didn't help and no better than Helix cabs to me...
  18. I've tried the various Helix cabs and a bunch of IR's including some Ownhammers and I have to say the Helix cabs hold their own. Nice range of choices and it's a lot easier to load a cab and make adjustments to mic type and placement along with the other parameters than trying to test a hundred similar IR's. If you've ever tried it you know what I mean...
  19. Not using USB but good suggestion. I guess the best description is can of bees. Even with a VOX or Fender, if you dig in it just sounds like bees not smooth distortion...
  20. appreciate the response. It's not so much annoying high end fizz like on the HD500 as it's a harsh buzz that just shouldn't be there.. and its on all amp models and cabs so I am really pissed... might see if I can take my Helix to a store and try through other speakers to see what's what...
  21. OK so I got my Helix and a pair of Alesis Alpha 112's which are similar to the Alto TS112's. I was pretty excited to get it all set up as the Helix sounds amazing but I am so disappointed with this rig... No matter what I do the tone is harsh and buzzy through the Alesis speakers. No thick warmth, no rich, creamy tone to be had. I have tried multiple amp and cab combinations and loaded various IR's, just not cutting it. Anyone else using the Helix through these cabs or the Alto's? Are you getting good tones? Unless someone has experience with these cabs and can point me in the right direction they are going back ASAP... After laying out this cash for Helix I sure can't spring for L series cabs so what's recommended for a $5-600 budget? I need a pair of powered cabs for live work in small venues.
  22. yep, same here... it's gonna take some getting used to...
  23. actually, I totally agree here... I don't care how you do it, free updates or ala carte purchase but there needs to be a lot more effects added, across the board. Take the Zoom model and sell them if you have to but it has to be done... same with amps and cabs...
  24. HA! I wish there was a source for this... no, Line 6 has been dead silent on signal flow within the DT despite numerous threads asking about it relating to LVM, direct out, and a whole bunch of other issues. It's just my opinion based on how things actually work pieced together over the past couple of years from the manual and the forums and for me the final proof is discovering the Helix L6 signal is applied to the DT preamp section, not bypassing it and going to the power amp section. You don't have to agree, just my observation and I would be overjoyed to have an official Line 6 staffer jump in and confirm or deny. Not holding my breath...
  25. Like I have been saying in other threads... there are physical reasons why the Helix L6 link isn't an easy fix in the DT. The DT is a fully integrated hybrid of the HD technology and the tube power section. I think the firmware update will need to be in the DT, not the Helix, to make this a reality. For now I guess I will use DT Edit to set all my DT channels to no preamp and set the topology to match the 4 switch positions. At least that way I can still play around with all 4 topologies with my Helix. Gonna be a busy weekend! (plus a meet and greet with the Winery Dogs in NYC!)
