yep, if you want stereo you would just separate and isolate one jack to one speaker. Realize this isn't going to sound magical. It will however, allow your stereo sigal to have some degree of separation and clarity.

If there is no amp selected in channel A in the POD the DT will default to its internal channel B amp model. That's why in my patch I use an amp model to lock in the DT and set the power section configuration but its muted in the POD. All the acoustic tone runs through channel B in the POD and goes straight to the DT power section.

I wired mine very simply with a two jack plate and separate isolated wiring to each speaker. Then I just plug each channel to its own speaker. Totally up to you how you rewire if you choose to do so, just be sure you know what you are doing so as not to damage your gear. You should start with the amp at maybe a quarter and bring up the POD volume until you are just beginning to activate the clipping indicator on the amp when you hit a strong chord. The clipping should not be lighting up during normal play so if it is, lower the POD until it stops. Once that level is good then you can begin to raise the amp volume to the level you want.

You don't have to worry. That amp (XLS1000) is 215 W per channel at 8 ohms. That is peak watts on a power transient, not steady watts. You can safely use it with your 2X12 cab and the HD500. You will probably get overload warning long before any damage. Is your cab wired for stereo? That way you can run one channel to each speaker. That's what I used to do with my 500, a Rocktron Velocity 300 amp and my 2X12. Sounded awesome. Bridged its 700 W at 8 ohms so you would need to be more careful. If your cab is 16 ohms mono then the amp rating drops to around 3-400 W.

Go to Global Settings>Ins/Outs>Page 2>Volume Knob Controls and you can set what the Volume Knob controls. Page 42 in Helix Owner's Manual 3 Volume Knob Controls - Determines which output(s) are affected when turning the top panel VOLUME knob. For example, you may want to control the level sent from the 1/4" outputs to your stage monitor without affecting the XLR level sent to the front-of-house mixer. -

pretty sure that's correct. POD to monitor 1 (channels 1 & 2), xlr link from monitor 1 to monitor 2. Adjust channel levels on monitor 1 between guitar and vocal. Adjust loudspeaker levels on both monitors for balance and overall volume.

Move your Mixer block to be the last one in the chain panned hard left and right and that will keep both channels separated. You will essentially be setting up two parallel mono paths, one to the left and one to the right. You only need to send one XLR or one 1/4 to your amp and mixer. However, if you are only sending one 1/4 you should put a dummy jack in the other 1/4 out to avoid summing both channels. Not an issue with the XLR's.

They are working on a fix for the Helix/DT integration but who knows when. As Darrell says the midi is dead easy and the Helix sounds better through the DT25 than my HD500 did. Firehawk 1500 is definitely not a DT replacement, totally different animal. More like an updated Vetta than anything else. I could see them putting out something similar with no built in modeling and L6 link to work with all their modelers. BTW the wet/dry/wet with my Alesis Alphas and the DT is incredible. Have fun with it!

I noticed they fixed the folder drag and drop in the new 1.03 app. After updating and doing a full reset I just dragged the whole IR folder I had setup into the app and everything loaded perfectly. (Win 7 on an older Dell laptop).

you have your normal 4CM routing in path 1 with nothing after the amp (FX Loop) so the return to your amps FX Return is dry. Now you have to duplicate your dry tone in path 2 using an amp/cab block. Then add all your post effects and send that to your stereo rig. You may be able to put a split after the FX Loop in path 1 and send that to path 2 with a cab block but I doubt it will sound right since it won't have your amps power section included.

Its really easy. Just put whatever you want before the amp/cab and a split right after it. Put all your delays, mods, reverbs, in the new path and nothing in the first path. Take the clean path output to your amp and take the wet path output to your stereo cabs. Adjust levels and mix as necessary to sound good in your setup.

I agree with you whole heartedly that it should have been handled much better. That said, the preamp models are not just for the DT, they are good for 4CM setups with other tube amps which the Helix was also designed to support. The midi wrokaround is so simple I don't understand why they didn't include it from the beginning to save a lot of confusion and bad feelings. If you already have a Helix, its hardly worth returning over but if you are just thinking about it definitely something to consider.

Good point on switching amp models however, you nailed the big reason why you can't really use it anyways. Absolutyely right, set all amps within a patch to use the same topology to avoid the pop from the mechanical relays switching. And that is easily done by midi with Helix. The command center is the easiest midi programming tool I have used.

With the DT as a standalone amp, the topology switch simply togglesbetween the 4 loaded amp models for each channel. Once you connect the HD500 or Helix with midi however, the topology switch actually changes the way the negative feedback loop in the power amp is configured. This gives you 4 separate voicings for each amp model. Totally different from what the standalone function does. Yes its a 3 cable setup. 1 from guitar to Helix, 2 (midi and L6 link) from Helix to DT.

if you download my setlist I linked in my last post, each patch is setup for a specific amp model and has both a full amp and a preamp on a FS. Choose the one you like best. Yes, the DT will configure itself to the default setup for that amp model. You can also turn on the default cab model with a FS if you like and you can change class, topology and pentode/triode settings too. It works exactly like a HD500 would. Once you have it the way you want it, change the patch to suit your needs. Yes its that easy.

I might have replied to this in another thread but anyways. Helix doesn't fully integrate with the DT because the modeling architecture is completely different. In fact, as is stands now, the Helix signal is applied to the DT's HD ampmodeling before hitting the power section. That's why the knobs on the DT are all functional. It sounds like crap! However, with one midi cable and a little Helix programming you can turn off all the DT's internal amp modeling, change the class, topology and pentode/triode settings and apply the Helix signal straight to the tube power section. The difference is night and day! The Helix amp modeling sounds incredible with the DT once you do this. Just connect a midi cable along with your L6 link from the Helix midi out to the DT midi in. I already created a setlist with templates for ALL the Helix amps and preamps with the default settings. Load it up and try it. See if you like the amps or preamps better. Its worth the effort. In the mean time they say they are working on the issue for what its worth. Doesn't matter, with midi its a non-issue. http://share.myflare.com/hB549Z

Maybe I missed something but when did switching topology become a big issue? I actually never switch in the middle of a song or while playing. Sure I want the right topology to load with the amp model but after that it doesn't change. You can do everything right now automatically with one midi cable added to your L6 link. Its so easy its ridiculous. The tone difference is huge with the Helix and DT over the 500 and DT. I would never go back to the HD, certainly not for this minor annoyance, and that's all it really is. I already posted a full setlist already configured for all the amps but in case you missed it here it is again. But definitely take it back if you want, there is a long waiting list of people that will be glad to get it. http://share.myflare.com/hB549Z

Well DI said the reason 1.06 was delayed was because of a bug with the "new" librarian... It was the same with the HD after the model packs were released. New amp or FX model, new editor/librarian. "Sorry, guys. Just got a call from Dom, and 1.06 isn't quite ready for primetime. QA just found a rare bug with the new Helix librarian that's serious enough to make us hold off until early next week. We'd rather take pitchforks for something late than something not ready."

Pretty sure there HAS to be a new Helix app with the new firmware since there are new amps and effects that the old app wouldn't recognize. Doesn't mean it has to be the full featured desktop editor we are all hoping for though. Sure would be nice to have it and I REALLY hope it works off line too. If it only works when connected it loses a lot of its functionality for me.

Don't waste your time on that particular setup. Pay a little more and get some quality powered speakers. The Alto TS112a's would be much better and are reasonably priced. You can always add a small mixer if needed. A pair of Altos and a mixer will run you about $400 and you will be set.
