POD HD500 Awful sound after updating to Flash Memory v.2.32
joel_brown replied to Jerkon's topic in POD HD
Also check your input Impedance setting. -
FYI - I sent an email to Logidy letting them know about the things found in this post. Hopefully they will pass this on to any of their Line6 users having difficulty getting it to sound good.
-
I had a bad power supply that caused a similar problem. If you have a volt meter, check your power supply and make sure it's putting out the correct voltage. When I had the bad power supply, the green LED light on it would go out when the PODHD rebooted.

Vintage Pre has HZ instead of Percentage ???????????????????????????????????????? It sure as hell does.................................... ok Line6 that answer about it being too difficult to do HZ because of the chip set architecture is !@#$#$%. I want a REAL EQ and I want it now.......................

So I Got My Hands On An Axe Fx Ii And Here's What I Think
joel_brown replied to RipperShred's topic in POD HD
I read that AXE has some super HD models out now but also read where their customers are complaining about hitting the DSP limit with them. Hmmm, that sounds familiar. Line6 does a great job for the money. No way would I spend 2 grand for an AXE then another grand for the foot pedal. -
I think someone should post this info over at EPSI so they can help their Line6 customers. If they had given this info when I sent mine back, I would have kept it.
-
Thanks Alphadog808 for doing that comparison using my patch. The EPSI definitely made it sound much better.
-
The typical tone I use is here www.ChildrenOfTheGraveBand.com/BlackSabbath.hbe
-
I already sent it back but I'm tempted to buy it again. The EPSI sounded good for me, just not much better that the PODHD's cabs. But from what they said about the output volume, I should have been clipping the EPSI like crazy when I used it - and it still sounded good. After hearing those sound clips and reading what they did, everyone should run out and buy an EPSI.
-
After reading the posts in this thread, I may not have had good results with the EPSI for a couple reasons. 1) I didn't know about reducing the output volume on the PODHD Desktop to around 4.5 due to the EPSI clipping. 2) I don't use an FRFR system. I plug into the FX return of a Marshall into a 4x12 cab. The sound clips that alphadog808 posted definitely show a big improvement in tone.

Amp Wish List For The Next Update (whenever That Is)
joel_brown replied to RipperShred's topic in POD HD
NucleusX, don't be a lollipop. The man didn't draw any parallels, he just stated that they need to look at more than just user requests. They need to be innovative. I appreciate having DI post in these forums. He has to walk a fine line. Don't make his job any harder or Line6 may pull him out of here. -
I would suggest increasing the Low Cut from 50hz up to 80 or 100. Also the Input Z (Impedance) can make a difference. Instead of leaving it on Auto try changing it to different numbers. Larger number are brighter sounding.

It was meant as a joke - sorry. Fortunately used PODHD gear seems to sell fairly quick on eBay.

D ick Tracy had one years ago... Let's see how many people date themselves on this.
-
If you spend more time on the phone than guitar, then get the Amplifi. My suggestion is spend more time on the guitar and stop looking at your phone, then get the PODHD. PODHD - much better quality, harder to use. More pro level sound. Amplifi - lower quality, easier to use. More for the occasional player.

I use the 1/4 outputs to a pair of Marshall JCM900s and run stereo. Placing a stereo delay on the left send and setting it to 20ms and 100% mix gives a nice stereo widening effect. Also other effects, such as using the gas pedal to pan on the fly from one amp to other is cool to get a dueling solo effect. Live it really freaks people out. You can tell the ones who have had too much too drink when you do this...
-
Using HDEdit: Under Mod you have the Freq Shifter. Attach it to the left output of an amp then double click in the Freq parameter and manually type in 1. If you try and use the mouse to move the knobs it will move the frequencies 10hz at a time. You have to manually type them in.
-
Most phones with this technology cost more than a PODHD. Unless you want to sign a contract with Line6 for 2 years for $99 a month to play unlimited music on nights and weekends.
-
That helps with the stereo effect but for high gain metal it didn't sound right. Also there is a detune in the PODHD which can give a stereo effect. The effect is similar to Chorus.
-
The Glenn Delaune trick is the only way I know of to get close to this and I've been trying for a few years now. I use it for live performance and it makes a big difference. It's not as good as two recorded tracks, but it's the next best thing.
-
I use the 20ms Glenn Delaune trick and duncann explained it exactly how Glenn does it. I also add a stereo delay at the end of the chain with Left side at 290ms and right side at 300ms. Steve Vai uses a Stereo chorus that feeds stereo delays and he puts a much large difference in the stereo delays. The Glenn Delaune trick is the one I prefer, even for live use. Anything more that 20ms seems to just muddy up the mix. You may get away with 25ms.

Brazzy Quote: "No way to know unless your receptacle is probed to see what's coming out". ----------------------------------------------------------------- Wow, that sounds like it would hurt.

These are some good links for explaining what a pain the arse it can be to program this stuff. As I said earlier, this isn't Windows, MacOS, or Unix.
-
Although I agree the labeling on the EQ is worthless. May as well just have Parm1, Parm2, etc. At least that's the only thing where the labeling is worthless. It does seem unusual that a DSP chip would have difficulty working with frequencies. Rather than beat up Line 6, maybe it was the people who built the chips.

Plug the PODHD into the pre-amp section (which will hum). Then while it's still plugged into the pre-amp section also plug it into the power amp section. The hum should go away with it plugged into both. This means your pre-amp section is not grounded internally correctly.
