One good thing I checked out because of this thread is Bias from PositiveGrid. Although the iPhone version is way too limited, the full version is something I'm going to look into. But $200 for the software, another $100 bucks for a small portable interface, then I'll need a laptop or iPad to run it, plus somehow connect a midi pedal to switch presets. It won't be cheap to put something together for live use. A lot more than just $20 for my iPhone and a few bucks for an interface and I'm off gigging. The only thing it had that got my attention was a Tone Match feature. The bad thing is I just don't see such a fragile configuration holding up very well in a live situation. It doesn't hurt to look, I'm just not going to hold my breath.

I haven't tried Bias on an iPhone but I have tried a butt load of free and not free VSTs on my computer. Haven't found any that sound better than what I get out of the PODHD. I'm calling bull lollipop...

I think this thread can be simplified. 1) This is what you get. 2) You don't like it buy something else because that's either going to cost a LOT more money or not be as good. 3) You got some new amp models since the HD's release. 4) We're lucky to hear that "something is coming". Most business wouldn't even say that. I'm happy and don't expect Line6 to treat the PODHD like it's a smartphone or computer OS. I think I gott'a heck of a deal for $500 bucks. I've spent more than that on a handful of noisy pedals that don't work anymore.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks this way. I thought I was turning into the Grumpy Old Man. While were talking about possible updates. I put this on Ideascale yesterday. I heard someone talking about this feature in AXE FX. Delay and Detune min and max settings. Then randomly picks a number between the min and max setting. This is supposed to give a nice double tracked guitar sound, even live.

Re-check your cables and settings.

We got a nice Soldano amp model just a couple years ago and the last couple updates were for better integration within their other products plus a couple bug fixes that were important. That's not bad in my book. Unlike a phone, we don't pay $100 a month to use it. And unlike Windows, there's not a 100 million people buying it. Would I enjoy some more features ? Sure. A global EQ would be great. But I don't see anything better from anyone else except Kemper and AXE and they cost a lot more money. And now that I read how to get the Logidy C1 IR unit to work with the PODHD, that gives me options to improve my tone. Dumping the PODHD because you don't believe anymore updates are coming out and waiting for something new sounds like someone needs a Snicker's Bar.

I thought Mainstage was for keyboards.

Blind TEST: Pod HD500 X / Boss GT-001 / Zoom G5 / Vox Tonelab EX | Alex Machado
joel_brown replied to idexo's topic in POD HD
I agree with Palico. I want to focus on the guitar sound not the player or the mix. The musician was plenty good enough to do the comparison. Yeah you wouldn't want someone who can barely tune the guitar doing it. But you don't need Steve Vai either. I'd rather not hear it in a mix because that can hide a lot of differences depending on how it's mixed. -

Great post. I picked the PODHD every time. Cleaner tones were kind'a close but the higher gains I definitely liked the PODHD better. -
Without hearing your tone and how it's sitting in the mix it's hard to say. The typical problem is 600 to 800 hz muddiness. The EQ issue may not even be you. It may be everyone else's EQ. I had a bass player who always had too much midrange in his EQ and it would kill everything in the mix.

This topic is way too complicated, I'm selling my computer and not using the internet anymore. I'm going to buy Progresso and use a can and a string to communicate.

Make sure your input settings for the PODHD is set to Guitar 1 and other input is set to Variax or Mic or anything besides guitar. Othewise it will overdrive your input and cause feedback. Also, try lowering your guitar pickups just a little, sometimes it doesn't take much to make a big difference. I did both of these things and play very loud heavy tones with no feedback at all.

This is a very old thread. I think the OP is far gone at this point. Although the info is very useful and was probably the issue the whole time.

A compressor is typically used before the Pre-Amp in the chain. I've found that a small amount of compression before the Pre-Amp and another after the Power-Amp can be helpful. The compressor after the Power-Amp tends to makes chording quieter while single notes are less affected. It can help with getting single note leads to cut through without having to add boost. It's a delicate adjustment so take your time. btw - awesome explanation from BillBee on how compressors work. Nice job...

I assume you are using a USB connection. Try a different USB port, preferably one actually on the computer and not a hub. Also try a different USB cable.

What did you expect ?. You post on a Line6 PODHD forum that it's too complicated and you got rid of it for a piece of crap. Maybe that's too complicated for you to understand.

I had this problem an a PODHD Desktop (bean). Turned out to be a power supply went bad. Don't know how to test that in a POD Pro but if the above post doesn't work I'd look into the power supply somehow. Or find an authorized Line6 repair center.

Gotta agree with clay-man here. The OP may not need or want the PODHD and that's fine, but BOSS sounds like crap and even a drunk idiot in the audience can tell the difference. But hey, maybe the OP doesn't play out, just in his basement. Or maybe he can't play the guitar well where it makes a difference. Who knows...
-
Hey I have a wireless system and can hear differences when I change Input Z. I have an old analogue wireless, if that makes any difference.
-
I can understand his frustration as I felt similarly for a while. But once I finally got a handle on the PODHD I truly appreciate what it does. However not everyone needs or wants this level of technology. I believe this is why Line6 came out with their Amplifi product. BOSS wouldn't have been my first choice as an alternative but to each their own.
-
Input Z settings can be important. The default is Auto which is typically 1m. When you lower this number to say 32k it reduces the high end portion of the tone, giving it a darker sound. I'm not going to explain why or how this works, don't care. But this is how it sounds when I change it.

Sometimes the problem lies in the EQ of the complete band. One of the things I've found is how the bass is EQ'd and sitting in the live mix. If the bass has too much mid it's hard to hear the guitar.

Similar post but different result. I played a gig with my PODHD and noticed a 60hz hum in my speakers. Nothing terrible and I figured it was just something at that venue that was causing some interference and went ahead and played the gig. The next day when I plugged in my PODHD, the hum was still there. In the headphones it sounded fine but the 1/4 outputs had the hum. Also my bass player said one of his stomp boxes got zapped at the gig and blew out, but all his other stomp boxes worked fine. The PODHD was out of warrant but I looked on the Line6 website for an authorized repair center. Found one a reasonable distance away and took it to them. 5 days later it was fixed and good as new for only $120. I couldn't be happier. There's nothing wrong with the gear, it works great. Buy a $10 outlet checker and maybe a power conditioner. I've not only worked in studios but help build one. Just because it's a studio doesn't mean the power is perfect or doesn't have the occasional problem. Every place at some time will experience some sort of power issue. Sounds like you've been very unlucky with power but the blame isn't on Line6. Maybe you need a Snicker's bar. Or better yet, buy an AXE FX for $3k and when it gets zapped you'll really be pissed.
-
IMO - the AXE FX is very nice but it's not worth the money. I'd buy a PODHD any day over an AXE FX based on value/quality.

There's still plenty of the HD beans on ebay that are new B stock for around $330 bucks or used around $225. Check with Sweetwater before buying one. They had a great sale on the bean a while back for $199 but they're sold out currently.
