I use mine just like this... via the FBVMKII shortboard... its actually a bit of insurance as well... the gear in the front of the stage is just a simple controller.. much easier to replace if bad things happen... you can also add a second expression to the floorboard, and use the floorboard for controlling midi etc in your daw when not using it with your rig. obviously... this adds a couple hundred dollars... for few new features (phantom power, spdif in and out, dry out) i like the format in my studio setting.... racked up right in front of me on the desk.

the pro has phantom power... not that you were asking... but it's still good to know. (one of the few differences)

New Pickup Models
TheRealZap replied to google50002's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
the 59 has different physical pickups than the 89, however they both share the same modeled pickups. same as others have stated, i just wanted to be clear. -
I believe only the topology 1 is different, but not positive. Fbv Mk1/ Spider Iv 120 Connect To Pc?
TheRealZap replied to lumper's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
you cannot with the MK1 shortboard... you need an MKII pedal... (that's the main difference between the I&II) -
New Pickup Models
TheRealZap replied to google50002's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
the 89 pickups are models of the stock jame tyler designed pickups featured in the JTV89 the 59, has lester models the 69 has spank models they modeled the 89's actual pickups so that they would have the modeled equivalent as well for alt tuning. -

there is the "89" pickups that are no used from the factory if you have a 59/69 in any case.. they would never tell us if they are working on something new... -
Pod Farm 1.12 And Garageband 10
TheRealZap replied to bjcasillas's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
sounds like a plan... because the limitation is a logic x limitation.... and they are not going to do anything to pod farm 1, as near as i can see. -
Pod Farm As Vst Vs Pod Farm With Ux1
TheRealZap replied to flabergaster's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
there will be no difference at all, no conflicts to worry about and your current pod farm will work with or without the UX1. -
try authorizing using the license manager, or open a support ticket.

Pod Farm As Vst Vs Pod Farm With Ux1
TheRealZap replied to flabergaster's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
sounds like some confusion.. i'll try to clear it up... but can't completely follow the questions... so hope it helps... if you paid extra for the pod farm 2.5 update the license belongs to your account and you can use it anywhere up to 4 devices/computers at once. if it was included in your UX, then the UX owns the license and it must be connected. the low latency monitoring etc... is a function of the lin6 drivers and the UX.. you shouldn't have any issues using the HD as an interface... you shouldn't have any conflict with the licenses between the pc and the UX. (although if one of your licenses was an ilok that can cause conflicts) -
I agree at first glance it's totally not worth the extra... BUT... to the right person it is... i just wanted to throw that info out there so they can decide for themselves.
-
I want to say that they stated something to that effect on their facebook page, not in the forum.
-
there is a dry out, that could be studio useful....(you can switch spdif to either) as well as both spdif in/out rather than just out (reamping?) anyway... perhaps not huge... but sometimes little differences can make big differences in the workflow.

Variax And Workbenchhd Won't Connect
TheRealZap replied to MWolfkiel's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I'm glad you got it sorted, and thanks for sharing because it may help others... I was able to install on mine without the old version, so it's not always needed, perhaps just something particular about your case? -
i've seen updates... especially ones that push the technical limitations of hardware... expose hardware that was not precise in the acceptable tolerances... there is a big difference in this particular update... never said it was your fault... in fact i'm clearly attributing it to either hardware or a bad flash.... i'm not even doubting you... or questioning your experience... i'm questioning your conclusions that it's widespread and affects all... because in my experience it does not affect me... therefore.. all is incorrect. i don't think that my JTV is special... just middle of the road... so there's something else... and i'm trying to help figure out what that something else is. have you opened a ticket? if its as widespread or common as you suggest they may have some experiences that will help you or perhaps a limited recall or warranty fix?

Control 2 Spider Iv Amps With One Fbv Shortboard
TheRealZap replied to jschires's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
it's not a supported feature... pretty straightforward. if you're trying to do something outside of the original design you're on your own... sorry, but i think your expectations that line6 will help you re-engineer their product for your specific needs is the fault here.... not saying you can't or shouldn't try what you're suggesting... just saying... putting it on line6 in this instance is a stretch. -
i like what you're saying as far as wild speculation... but this is a small sample... not every JTV user came to the forums and voted in some random thread... it could easily be argued that this thread would draw in primarily those that did rollback... i just accept this thread as an opinion... it has absolutely no scientific value whatsoever. just a few guys that like the same guitars, speculating. all good... but zero science.
-
either you have a hardware issue, or an issue with your flash... i do not have this issue that you speak of... meaning i have a gold plated special JTV or it's not inherent in the firmware... and most likely your update didn't take properly or you have a hardware issue. others may have the issue, for the same reasons... i don't consider this a question of your hearing or personal taste.... but from everything i've seen and heard many MORE do not have this issue.
-
This won't happen... that and you basically nailed it with the upgraded processor but basically the same device statement... there's no reason to exclude the older models since they are virtually the same. I also agree that DSP isn't the issue in itself... meaning i can do enough effects etc with the non x version... where the upgraded DSP is needed in my opinion is the extras.... meaning seperate xlr-1/4" feed... multiple usb streams... global eq... .those types of things that the x3 could do.. (it had dual DSP's)
-
32 would be alot if they only ever sold 60 james tyler variaxes.... i'm sure they've more likely sold in the 5 digits (10,000+) if not into the 6 digits... and i'm sure that of those.. optimistically 500 participate in the forums... the other 9,500+ are off rockin (maybe 1.9 unaware of the update, or maybe 2.0 unaware and uncaring of others opinions on the matter) anyway my numbers are no more or less scientific than the 32 number... but let's try a little perspective... you like what you like... others like what they like.... by all means come in, compare notes, have a productive conversation amongst like minded folks... but let's not pretend it's something it's not.... (AKA signs of something wrong) what it is is a subjective difference of opinion. rock what you wanna rock.
-
they just released 2 new "X" models... despite the silence, i think this is a clear indication that the Pod HD's are still considered an active product.
