Variax 2.0 Spank Bug ?
TheRealZap replied to fremen's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Nice but the do it yourself ability helped the cost a bit. You're braver than I am. -
they can still have models in the firmware that do not directly correlate to the knob... case in point... the 89 pickup models... because it is built into the guitar... the model is in there.... even though there is not a permanent home for it on the dial. you can build the model yourself and store it for recall on the switch anywhere really (but i chose the custom slot) so you could in essence overwrite crap you don't use and place stuff you want on the dial as long as "it's in there" in fact you can get a few extra acoustic variations as well... basically copy the acoustic bank... add parallel strings to the 6r's and turn it off on the 12'rs and you got 5 new acoustics.... although not entirely the same as the 89 models... they are a whole model internally with no home on the dial. there is for certain a finite amount of internal memory for models.

Just wondering if anyone has any of these to share? mine are pretty uninteresting, just wanted to see if anyone is doing anything more interesting?
-
you can easily dump the settings and send them back with different software such as sysex librarian (mac) or midiox (win) but i don't think there is an editor out there that would be any better than just editing on the device. oh yeah... and gearbox does not have the same effects... gearbox has x-series effects not m series.

I Am An Idiot - Left Dt50 On Standby . . . For 3 Days!
TheRealZap replied to Jecswp's topic in DT50 / DT25
It's a service bulletin to address a specific manufacturing error. you'd need to have either Line6 or a service center check your serial number to know if you need it. i really don't know the technical details other than alot of guys were having issues and they came out with this bulletin to address it. -

you need to download pod farm 1.12, version 2.5 is not a free upgrade. -
I Am An Idiot - Left Dt50 On Standby . . . For 3 Days!
TheRealZap replied to Jecswp's topic in DT50 / DT25
I sent mine from the east coast direct to L6 for the fix, and it took less than 2 weeks. (it would probably had taken longer, to take it locally and have L6 ship him the parts) he can check, or you can call: http://line6.com/company/contact/ i believe the serial number is what determines if you will qualify. as far as him initiating it, all the details to that are in the bulletin, i honestly don't know.. (its not public) the bottom line for him is basically how's he going to get paid... being an L6 service center he probably has an agreed upon/reduced rate... which might be why he'd rather you paid... because he probably has a regular rate as well.... but thats all speculation on my part... i'm sure that L6 can answer your bulletin questions as far as qualifying... i'd start there just so that you knew the deal when you take it in. -
I Am An Idiot - Left Dt50 On Standby . . . For 3 Days!
TheRealZap replied to Jecswp's topic in DT50 / DT25
well... my amp went the same way... it was on standby and just quit working... it was the 059 bulletin issue.... and it should be free regardless of when purchased etc.. once per amp i believe... i think its sort of a repair/recall kind of issue.... i'm not in a position to confirm that or anything... but if it has not been done yet... should be free to get it done, even if thats not the issue... (its already there, why not!?) the amp tech may be right... but i'd take the free improvement also... -

if you haven't had the bulletin 059 repair done, that will probably fix the issue for you... and line6 picks up the tab. ask the service center to look up the bulletin for you. -
Variax Ghost Notes?
TheRealZap replied to spmartin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Did you set up a support ticket? I'm sure that Line6 will take care of you if it's in warranty. -
i really can't recommend their loopers... i wish i could! could have saved the cost and footspace of the RC300 i ended up getting. their one standalone looper, the JM4... is interesting... in case you haven't put it together... it's basically a spider jam without the amp... it even has the amp models... (spider 3 amp models...) it would be fun, since you can load backing tracks etc... I personally just wasn't swayed with the older tech in it...
-
quantizing helps you start and stop your loops on specific beats... rather than having say an extra lingering 1.8th note because your footwork wasnt perfect... which of course hoses the whole loop. pretty sure that all of the boss models rc2+ have this... just not familiar with anything older.
-
I deleted your duplicate postings, and made this into its own topic in the correct forum.
-
get at least an rc3, preferably rc30... the 2/20 is really limited, although still better than the HD builtin, because of the quantizing and rhythm... for the cash though... i'd squirrel away and get a 50 or 300... but again both probably overkill.. but thats extra fun while you have it... and good resale when you're done.

Great Comparison V1.9 Vs 2.0
TheRealZap replied to vjclaus's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
probably... but that little history of variax updates is probably not common knowledge... but it's very real and factual history... and it's just not possible what they are asking for. perhaps the clever line6 guys will come up with something... but the internal storage and sounds are not infinite, they are finite. perhaps they can make up for these things in the 3rd generation variax if that ever happens. (took 7 years to go from gen1 to gen2... wont likely be fast if ever) -

Is The Edit Software Different Between Pod Hd Units?
TheRealZap replied to superbrown's topic in POD HD
it's even worse than that... you'll want the bean, 500, 500x, or pro because the 300/400 are limited to a single eq instance... depending on the type of eq... you'd want multiple instances... example: parametric... one band per instance -

Great Comparison V1.9 Vs 2.0
TheRealZap replied to vjclaus's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
i'd also point out that even though the original models "co-existed" with the HD models (the new acoustics) that the full HD 2.0 release changed the sound enough to have many questioning if the acoustics had been further upgraded... in reality the underlying code had been upgraded to better use those HD models.... the original variax models probably would not even sound the same if placed on top of the underlying HD code... maybe better... but that's no more or less subjective than the current HD models... again a slippery slope.... -
Great Comparison V1.9 Vs 2.0
TheRealZap replied to vjclaus's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
using simply logic we can with 100% certainty say that it is not possible. any version of the variax software before 1.83 had both the factory models and the user models installed (all models were basically duplicated. which was a HUGELY nice unknown feature of the original variax) after 1.83 when they added the HD acoustic models, they removed the duplicate factory models to make room for the HD models. i'm certain that if one bank of HD models required the removal of all the duplicated models... that there is NO room to put them all back with the HD models. if there was enough room for say a handful of the old models... i'd still say no thanks... make me more new HD models. (that and picking and choosing old models will never make everyone happy anyway... slippery slope.) -
