  1. Don't disagree. They should last a long time. Many do. But it's not exactly the same as most electronics. It has moving parts and gets handled a bit more than your average appliance.
  2. Every manufacturer has a warranty and that's the only guarantee you get. I can guarantee that the 500 at least lasted 3x the warranty length perhaps closer to 10x at this point.
  3. Chill out... sometimes the obvious isn't what we want to hear... but it's no less true. he was trying to be helpful and temper your expectations... your reply came across as more "jerk" like than his. i'm not happy that this happened to you... but nothing last forever dude. sorry.
  4. the primary hint i would give to someone trying to get more "quack" is to adjust the pickup volumes.. (on 2/4 position) essentially raising and lowering the pickups getting the balance to match your personal taste. (as in one higher volume than the other... not raising/lowering them both)
  5. You're probably right... although i tend to think that the bias is in the 1.9 column.... because i think there are more 2.0 players.. that are off rocking somewhere and don't care about the poll. and i'm basing that solely counting those that are even aware of the update... as there are surely many others rocking 1.9 without a worry. Honestly if you didn't know about the update you wouldn't have a preference in the poll anyway. i wouldn't count generation 1 owners either as the option beyond 1.9 equivalent firmware does not exist. I also would discount those that are making their assessment purely by online media... the firmware update factors strongly in the feel of the instrument that can't be attained in this manner. surely there are those that have a JTV, tried both and like 1.9... you can't please everyone... so lets just stick with accurate models, and lots of them... even new ones that may favor someones preference... but the old one's are in the rearview. fact.
  6. I do know, from a ways back that the original intent was to use a common sony camcorder battery. I understand that there may have been licensing reasons that prevented this, or other business reasons... I'm not sure what exactly they changed, or what they moved to to alleviate whatever the specific reasons were... but it would not surprise me if the ebay battery is a possibility. the risk is minimal as long as it fits... IMO* (*DISCLAIMER: my opinion is only my opinion... any actions taken on your part are at your own risk)
  7. just time.... the spider jam is a spider III generation amp... the spider IV's are probably considered to be "stale" by now even... but yeah older products just generate less activity here... there is likely alot of spider jam information to be had in the old forum archives. you should have a look there, and get you a list of questions to post... I bet if you have specific areas of concern, other owners would jump in and give you some feedback.
  8. My guess is it's not really the equivalent of regular programming code... it's more the equivilent of a sysex/midi install.... and i've seen midi uploads and dumps work less than great at a single pass... I think the structure of that data changes sometimes between versions, and that's another reason that the flash sometimes works by downflashing then upflashing... because the structure to be updated needs "repaired" anyway... that's my elementary understanding and fill in the gaps guess... not based on anything other than my personal experiences though.
  9. Just saying what i'd seen in the forums (the old ones) where some user or another messed up their stuff using a crossover... i'm certainly not willing to test :D
  10. yeah... crossover cables could be tragedy! they use a standard cat5 cable... but not a standard pinout.... meaning that the cable carries power and a crossover cable would put the power somewhere it's not wanted.
  11. that sucks dude! i mean if they did that as a temp fix while the part was ordered... ok.... but to leave it like that... LAZY. I'm going to guess this was a service center... (they are independent businesses) not an excuse... just my guess...
  12. It's entirely possible that he just isn't having this problem... I don't have it... but i do believe that others do... i tend to think that the update reveals faults in the internals, because it's utilizing more resources... my unfounded, unscientific, and pure guess.. is that this will ultimately prove to be a hardware issue affecting some but not all. there are always going to be those that pickup on the real vibrations vs the modeled tunings... that's why people suggest doing a direct recording to eliminate that possibility.
  13. you can never get the feel of an amp or guitar or anything really on a video... if you could... porn would be MUCH more popular.
  14. the original pod pro uses the "floorboard" and not an FBV or FBV MKII. the fbv mk2, will work fine with "desktop software".... the board you need is no longer made, but you can find it here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR3.TRC1.A0.Xline6+floo&_nkw=line6+floorboard&_sacat=0&_from=R40
  15. hold the direction key to the left and power on.
  16. the beauty of the original variaxes.... if you use them with a pod... (for sure xt/x3, haven't tried HD's) is that you can overwrite 100% of the guitars withe custom anything... tunings etc... and STILL access all the original unmodified models.... you'll see 2 sets of models in gearbox... the "u" models (user, the ones you access from the dial) and the "f" models (factory) you can only select these by forcing it within the preset on the pod. anyway probably old news... but i always loved that feature... and it was always this obscure little detail that was never documented anywhere.
  17. 1/2, etc are audio streams that come across over usb. specifically 1/2 is a stereo stream, although you can split them up and record 1 mono and 2 mono to separate tracks if you wanted to. don't forget that the x3 comes with pod farm 1 plugin for free! for this reason i always recorded 7/8 because then i could change amps and effects without reperforming the track... sometimes it helps when mixing time comes. pretty much any modern interface will allow you to use it for windows/media sounds as well as your recordings... so you'll be fine either way.
  18. i'm sure that you can use them at the same time.
  19. yes i was talking about the 500... sorry came in late to the thread if thats not what we're talking about
  20. yes and no.... what you say is probably true as well... but they did remove additional models from 1.83 when they added the HD acoustics back then. so there really isn't room for both sets... that and the underlying HD "engine" would have resulted in a change to the sound of the old models besides. and lets not forget the quality difference... sure the old models sounded fine.... i have a fine collection of music on my ipod.. all at either lossless or 192+ kbps there's always those handful of older songs I've not upgraded... and when some 128 kbps song comes on it sounds like crap in the context of my high bitrate songs...
  21. generally you want to set the master and leave it... (at the level you intend to use it) then store all your tones etc with the appropriate channel volume. this allows the master to raise/lower all of your tones at once to adjust to the venue etc.... but generally you do want the master up... it does seem to sound a little better...
  22. sounds like you are probably in the studio out mode... feeding that into a guitar amp usually sounds horrible... (because it has all the mic emulations etc that you'd usually feed to a PA)
  23. it's part of the ASIO specifications... you'll need to do that with ANY quality recording card/device regardless of manufacturer. if you want to use an separate card you can.. but you will lose some of the great recording features of the x3. for example with the x3 over usb you can record 8 feeds: 1/2=tone1 stereo 3/4=tone2 stereo 5/6=tone1+ton2 stereo blend 7/8= tone1/tone2 inputs (dry for later re-amping) (all digital) you won't get that out of another interface... you will get whatever analog feeds you plug into you other interface... making it a pain to try to wire up etc if you want to keep everything separate as well as record the inputs dry. obviously do what you need to do... but an informed decision is always a good thing.
  24. You have to plug the speakers into the x3 you will not use your internal sound card the x3 becomes your sound card.
