    My understanding of the workaround, is that its only required if you plug the guitar into workbench HD, it's workbench HD that causes the need for the workaround. some have said that was not the case for them... but that's what i was told from L6

    put an A/B switch in your loop, then you can use it for both... it's a better option that not being able to use it.

    if it was me (i have a 59) at the very least i'd modify a cymbal felt to wrap the wires and fit through the hole... i'm not rich enough to buy a new variax that one time that the system gets critically shorted.

    have you tried changing the order you turn things on? sometimes the midi info sent to and from the DT/HD can initiate parameter changes. might also for this reason park the DT knobs at 0 (except master) anything moving there would also send the midi to the HD.

    silverhead has some great points... as far as what fits you.... i could easily recommend my boss rc300... but thats pricey and potentially overkill for many.

    Yeah i don't do pure clean that often, the object for me was just to put the more "gain" oriented amps on channel B at first i tried being clever by putting all 3 SLO channels on one channel... the knob settings that work for SLO clean, will just about take your head off when switching topologies. that's kind of what i was working around. :)

    yes: equals the same form factor as: and will fit in your amp like: the rubber feet etc are still located in the same place and the pod mount works for both...

    i'm fairly confident he means the bean.... i think they are the same size... the difference will probably be inputs and outputs... but the bean itself i think is the same shape... i had one years ago (have the hd now)

    yeah it's certainly the biggest most drastic upgrade to the variax ever... which is my point.... but i do see your point as well, perhaps you didn't expect the upgrade to be so different? all i'm saying is that i would have tried it without an audience first... i don't really understand why that opinion is so offensive to anyone... or why anyone wouldn't think to do so. again.. not out to offend... but alsithi put himself in that position.

    feel free not to like my opinion, or perhaps the way i've expressed it... Line6 does not control my opinion, and i do try to be mindful of how it's expressed. despite my perhaps poor expression of that opinion... i stand by the sentiment that you made no preparation for the change in guitar tone, that you initiated by updating... yet somehow still see fit to blame the instrument or the update.... not to bring religion into it at all... but to quote a famous guitar player: "even god needs to soundcheck" perhaps the update is not for you... that's a subjective question that only you can answer... but it's also equally as possible that perhaps with a little time and care, you could dial in a tone that works for you with the update. my opinion is my own... and if you think that the customer is never wrong, and can never be at fault... then well i'm going to accept that as your opinion even though i disagree.

    my strategy is a bit different than Greg's but it depends on your needs... i put my clean voicings in channel A, and my gain voicings in channel B makes it easier on my ears when switching voicings because the gain amps react wildly different to knob settings that are good for clean amps.

    I've played them all.. they are pretty much like a usa vs mexico strat... not one thing to point at that makes it better... but the little details are all a little better and it adds up. they are also made on a much smaller scale with more attention to detail... the woods better, the finish is better.... that sort of stuff.

    everyone is free to have an opinion... the more models the better really... i'd personally prefer more new ones to the return of the old ones... but no problem for me if you have a different opinion.... .... on this point though... it is a topic in which he created... making the entire thread his business... he obviously wants to discuss the topic... his opinion is different than yours... no big deal... apparently his argument is using tactics in which are failing to persuade you... now shake hands and agree to disagree... :D

    not trying to be argumentative here... but i found the semi's and jazzboxes far improved. they all seemed pretty derivative before. just different strokes for different folks i guess.
