  1. works for me with both interface and 1/4" it can do strange things from time to time if i'm changing things too quickly... but works easy enough for the most part.
  2. i love having the pickups... having said that i'd also love to see a budget version sort of like the old 300, with a mode basic pickup free lower priced guitar.... heck even gibson has the melody maker... maybe trim it down like the 300 with no alt tune knob etc but still capable through software etc... you know trim down whatever to get a 500$ model out there... just saying the more people who have some sort of variax, the better long term support etc is for the whole line.....
  3. there's also the probability that they had to update the variax "engine" that renders the models to audio... perhaps playing the old models on the new engine would not sound the same anyway.... as in it isn't possible without tweaking the old models... which they are done with and have no intention of tweaking further. just one theory.... but they give you the tool to do your own tweaking in workbench HD... the new models are here to stay.
  4. just go out of the hd300.... into the effects return of your AMP... if you don't hear a sound... plug a cable into the guitar input on your amp (or a dummy plug... won't matter what because the pre-amp/input will be bypassed) that's it.... other than plugging in your guitar to the 300.... no return etc from the effects loop
  5. the new workbench will not work through a pod. you need to use the variax interface that came with the JTV.
  6. its NOT a text file its a tone file... you need to change.zip to .hbe as space stated in his post.
  7. at this time there is no pod farm with the HD models... more than likely you're pod farm license came with and is tied to your UX1 if you ditch the UX1 you won't be able to use pod farm. meaning you'd pretty much use the hd500x sounds... (great quality bump though!) not sure this will meet your needs right now...no idea if/when a pod farm hd will come. anyway... there's some info.. for you to decide.
  8. the internal midi allows it to be midi controlled... and has nothing to do with its ability to act as a controller. not like any of those details matter though... simply put it is what it is... and not always what we want it to be.
  9. no... a controller is a controller... the ability to be controlled is something different... (and it can be controlled just not configured to your desire) my gift to you: http://www.merriam-webster.com/
  10. you may have to refresh a couple of time or whatnot.. its on the old forums and they are flakey... but you can control both at once... details.... may have to organize patches etc a little... but there's no A/B type switch which is what you really wanted i think.... http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1337
  11. the problem with ALL free recording programs is that they are not ASIO compliant... as ASIO is not open source and costs money... not that these won't record... its just not "pro" level.
  12. all of your transplants i've ever seen look great! this is no exception.
  13. yeah, by all means if it's just eliminating that position 2/4 bug is the fix you're looking for... its going to be done... i thought you said you wanted positions 1/3/5 to be somehow different... that's not going to happen. they've admitted that one and are working on it.... i think everyone here loves the variax.. :)
  14. then i guess 2.0 isn't for you... i have been told that after performing the workaround that hugo suggested that the strat is as intended. the only thing they are going to fix is the need for the workaround. that's as fixed as it's going to get... beyond that you can use workbench hd to change to your fit your own personal ideal.
  15. the midi and ALL the software on the 500x is the same as the 500.
  16. threw up a quickie fake jazzmaster model suite. doubt it would hold up side by side... but seems to have the general vibe of my previous JM. (at least the neck and the mid, couldn't quite get the bridge right)
  17. They have no intention of changing the strat outside of correcting the 2/4 position defaults just FYI.
  18. they do come in a box... it nearly has to, because the tolex covering is not the most rugged. i'd be pretty upset, because they seem to be lying to you at every turn.... said its new... it clearly isn't said that the sound in the video was normal... no where close... not sure if they at least gave you an open box discount.... but i'd demand a new one.
  19. dude the GC guy is a nut.... thats clearly a defect. exchange it.
  20. as far as i can tell, the only people that end up with the spank issues... are people who have used workbench HD.
  21. updated.... (not sure why someone gave the pin a negative vote though??!?! seems absurd since it only helps people and has none of my opinions... but whatev's)
  22. workbench cannot be opened without a variax attached.... perhaps i still don't follow you...
  23. which variax? if you updated a JTV to 2.0 you need to use variax workbench HD and a variax workbench interface. if it's one of the earlier variaxes you might make sure that java is installed...
  24. http://line6.com/software/ here's the windows link though: http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=3143
