  1. I'm sure that's why Yamaha acquired them last year... Because they were in dire straits. From everything I can see, Line 6 is doing a pretty good job in being competitive or being at the top of most categories it sells products in.
  2. I have a US JTV-69, and I really like it. Is it worth $3,000? It's hard to say what makes any guitar worth a certain amount. I think it's as nice or nicer than any expensive guitar I've played, and I don't regret buying it one bit. The US JTVs have a quarter-sawn neck, and I find the neck on mine to be very playable (I got the maple neck). I think the Korean JTVs are fine, too, but I guess I was buying the JTV to be my main guitar for the next few years, so I figured it was worth the investment.
  3. The magnetic pickups and the Lithium Ion battery are two very practical features that are really almost enough in and of themselves to justify the upgrade to me, but even beyond those, I find that JTV to just be a much better experience all around.
  4. Well, as I mentioned Line 6 did make a 250mA adapter at one point, but it was never the one that shipped the M5. How it ended up with yours, I can't say. As far as the M5 and PP2+, I'd say it probably depends somewhat on how heavily loaded the PP2+ is altogether. If you aren't pushing it too hard altogether, perhaps it's able to drive that output harder. I don't know. I do know with quite a bit of certainty that the M5 can consistently draw more than 250mA. It varies somewhat depending on what effect you're using because some effects tax the processor more than others.
  5. D'Addario 10-46. I believe they're this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EXL110-10Pk?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=none&utm_term=DSA_-_Product&adpos=1t2&device=c&network=g&gclid=CLz4ysTvz8ICFQ6paQodSnoAiw
  6. Does the power supply that came with your M5 say "Line 6" on it anywhere? The one that's supposed to come with it is the DC-1g. It's rated at 500mA, 9.6V. There is a smaller, now discontinued, Line 6 power supply called the DC-1 that's rated at 250mA, but that shouldn't have been included with your M5. As far as the actual draw, I believe that the M5 consistently draws close to 300mA, if I remember correctly. The PP+ may be able to provide more than the rated current for a little while, but it would probably start being inconsistent after a while.
  7. The FBV Express is simply a controller. No audio passes through it, so the question isn't really relevant. It does give you access to the tuner in whatever piece of equipment you're controlling, so in that sense, you can probably get rid of the Boss tuner.
  8. I'm sure that Zap can speak for himself, but when he said "it's not my job", I took it to mean that he was reiterating that we aren't Line 6 employees. We're volunteering our time here, so, yeah, it's not our job. The only reason I commented on this thread was in response to the questions of whether Line 6 was going to do anything in regards to Gearbox. The official answer that's already been given is that they aren't, and I don't think that repeatedly asking them is going to change their mind, especially since Tony mentioned that it hasn't been supported since Lion, which is three generations of OS X removed now. In my experience, once they make a decision like that, it's final. You can lobby them to do something, and, who knows, perhaps they will. I do think that people saying stuff like, "it's only a few hours worth of time" or "it's a simple fix" are probably minimizing what would be involved. I'm not a software developer, and I admittedly don't have the experience, but from what I've seen, it seems like anything like this is usually more involved than simply a few hours of work. I know that it was a major effort on their behalf to get all the drivers and supported software updated for Yosemite. I also think that there are other practical things. If Line 6 releases an updated version of Gearbox, there's always the potential that new bugs would show up, so then there's additional expectation that they need to fix it. I think it's just them being realistic in that they have limited resources, and the best way to invest isn't probably in fixing software for a discontinued product line. Personally, I do kind of like the open source idea, but I don't know if that something Line 6 would ever consider. I know they've always been very protective with that sort of stuff in the past.
  9. Well, don't know about it being the whole point of buying an X3L, but if it's an important functionality to you, I suppose you'll have to find a workaround. The fact is that Gearbox is a legacy product at this point and isn't going to be receiving any more support. Again, we're talking a product line that's been discontinued for four years. Funny, I think this is the most action the X3L board has seen in years.
  10. You're losing business because you can't use the editor for the X3L? What's you business? And do you have no access to a computer with an OS that still works with Gearbox? I guess I'm having a hard time understanding the big deal. I understand some level of frustration. But, the main functionality of the X3L is still there. The editor is a rather small part of the product offering. In the whole time I've owned my X3L, which is 7 years now, I think I've used Gearbox once. You can still record with the X3L. You can still use POD Farm. The only thing you can't do is edit presets with Gearbox.
  11. Not credible in what way? Are you accusing me of lying about something? As far as the POD Farm VST, it's still a current product, and is receiving support as such. The status of the Gearbox editor is really almost superfluous to that product. The X3L and POD Farm aren't 100% compatible products. Any tone you create in the X3L can load in POD Farm, but the opposite isn't true. Actually, though, I do know what you mean about POD Farm and the X3L. I still have my X3L just for the fact that I need it to keep my license for POD Farm 2. As far as wanting you to by a product, I don't work at Line 6, and I'm not trying to sell you anything. I'm Expert User here, emphasis on the user part, meaning that I'm a fellow customer.
  12. First off, I think you need to remember that the whole issue here is that Apple came out with a new iOS that would require Line 6 to update its software. It's not as if Line 6 suddenly decided to make all the existing seats of Gearbox unusable (although, as is noted above, Gearbox has been consider a legacy product for some time now). If you're not using the latest OS, the system will still work as it did. I don't of any tech company that guarantee support indefinitely into the future. There are just too many factors beyond their control. Secondly, Line 6 is still supporting the X3L in the way of audio drivers. I also believe that if you want to backup your presets on your computer you can still do that through Monkey. The editor doesn't provide anything that you can't do on the X3L itself. I understand the frustration, and I get that the editor is a convenience that you're now without. Eventually the support for the HD line will end, too. I expect that will be quite a while yet. But it's simply not possible for software companies to offer continuous support across their entire product line. Apple itself ended support for Snow Leopard this year (at least it looks like they're not going to update it again). It's an OS that came out in 2009. So there's just a lifespan on the software side of things. You can still use you X3L to record via USB and play live or whatever you want to do, though.
  13. Well, the modeling is, for all intents and purposes, the same. There are some differences in the feature set, though. There are no bass amps and cabs or bass effects on the Amplifi. It also doesn't have all the vocal preamp stuff the X3 has. It can't do dual tones. So it's not necessarily a full replacement for the X3. The one thing you can do with the Amplifi that you can't do in the X3 is have multiple instances of the same effect or effect type. You have three "wild card" effect slots in the Amplifi signal chain that can be any distortion, modulation, filter, or delay you want. In the X3, you have a single drive block, a single modulation block and a single delay block.
  14. You can get a standalone phantom power supply. This is about the least expensive I've seen: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/behringer-ps400-micropower-power-supply?cntry=us&source=3WWRWXGP&gclid=CNXdgqe0ycICFeOPMgodMAUATw&kwid=productads-plaid^80558075667-sku^336830000000000@ADL4MF-adType^PLA-device^c-adid^51870555867
  15. The on/off state of the effects is saved with the preset, so if you exit an effect after you turned effects on and off in it without re-saving the preset, any changes you make will be lost. So when you go back to that preset, the effects will be in the state they were when you saved the preset - not the way they were when you last left the preset.
  16. Well, the current "flagship" Line 6 floorboard product is the POD HD500X. As I mentioned earlier, the X3L has been discontinued since 2010.
  17. On a Mac, it's class compliant audio interface, so it should be recognized by the OS as soon as you plug it in. Essentially, it's using the default Mac drivers.
  18. The HD series itself is 4 years old at this point. Line 6 is still supporting the X3 in the way of updating drivers, it's just that they've decided to not continually update the editor. It really doesn't seem that unreasonable for a product that has been discontinued since 2010.
  19. Pops can happen for a lot of different reasons. You may need to adjust the buffer size, or they can be a symptom of a conflict with other hardware. On my laptop, for example, I always disable the internal soundcard in the Device Manager and turn of my network adapter. Those seem to be common sources of issues with USB recording.

    Mono Reverb

This is what I was going to recommend. The other thing is that if you just use one of the 1/4" outputs, everything will be summed to mono.
  21. Just in case anyone missed the announcement above. Here's the KB notes for the update:
  22. There's no compatibility between POD Farm and the POD HD. They're two separate modeling platforms.
  23. Just note that they haven't said that won't be adding it to the other models.
