  2. You have to have a 1/4" cable plugged in the guitar and have the volume knob up. The Workbench interface doesn't power guitar, and the guitar won't turn on unless you have a 1/4" cable in it.
  3. The HD500X doesn't pass MIDI over USB, so, unfortunately, it wouldn't be possible.
  4. Anything you would do like that on the 500X would mean you'd have to sum the iPad's output to mono to maintain separation between it and the guitar signal. You'd still be sending two signals from the 500X to the board. Ideally, all the music being played from the iPad should be roughly the same volume, so the sound guy really shouldn't have to worry about it that much. You could set up a dual path and run the iPad into one of the path and have it controlled by the 500X's expression pedal, but it just seems more trouble than it's worth. You'd have to adjust all of your patches. Plus I think trying to adjust the volume of the recorded music live is going to be a pain.
  5. I'm confused as to how you want the two devices to interact exactly and why the church would want you to run the iPad through the HD500X. I would think you would want to keep the audio output of the two separate. If you plug the iPad into the 500X's MP3 input, it would pass the audio from the iPad through the outputs, but then you'd be controlling the volume of the two with the 500X's master volume. You could control the iPad's volume with its internal volume control still. I just don't see any advantage. If you have an adapter to get MIDI out of the iPad, you could conceivably pass MIDI from the iPad to the 500X and have some automation, but that's something you'd have to buy extra. There's no way to directly connect the iPad to the 500X over USB right now.
  6. You don't assign anything. The FB4 just chooses from presets 1 through 4 of whatever bank you have the POD set to.
  7. The M9 was meant to be used on pedalboards with other pedals, imo. I think most people are using it with other pedals. No issue at all.
  8. You can't. There is no "manual mode" or anything like that. You are always in a preset in one way or another. You can edit anything within a preset, and you can save it as something else in the app under "My Tones" if you want. You can also overwrite any of 100 preset locations on the amp itself. The tone knobs only affect the guitar tone. They don't do anything to what's being streamed over the Bluetooth. I've not tried a 75, but it has an 8" woofer compared to the 12" in the 150, so I would think, yes, the 150 probably offers more in the bass department. Whether it's a lot more, I don't know.

  10. Mission Engineering make a 2-channel expression pedal like you describe, but it's not compatible with Line 6 products: http://missionengineering.com/?product=sp-1 I wouldn't be surprised that they could modify so it would work, though, if you contacted them.
  11. The FB4 is simply a controller. There are no setting saved at all in it. All of the presets are saved in the POD itself. The FB4 will let you choose between 4 presets in a bank. So you need to save your presets wherever you want them on the POD, select that bank, and then you'll be able to choose between them.

  13. Should be... It's been a long time since I've messed around with it, but it's pretty straightforward from a signal flow perspective. When you shut the effects loop off, your just bypassing it as if it weren't there. So your signal would go from the POD's input, through your tone, to the POD's output and into your amp's FX return.
  14. If that's what you want to do, you don't need to worry about the 4 cable method. Just take a cable from POD's output into your amp's fx return. You're essentially using the POD as your preamp that way. Now, if you want to have some patches where you are using the POD as the preamp and others where you're using your amp, that's another matter altogether. You would have to use the 4CM. You'd have to configure the effects loops on a patch per patch basis. You'd want it off in the patches where you want to bypass your amp's preamp.
  15. The volume slider in the amp model in the editor is the same thing as the "channel volume" on the POD. The best way to think of this is as a volume control outside of the amp model. So if you turn this volume up or down, it won't affect the gain structure of the amp model at all. On non-master volume amps such as the Twin and Deluxe, the drive knob is essentially the volume knob for the amp model. On master volume amps, it's a bit trickier. The drive knob kind of models the preamp gain and master volume simultaneously.
  16. If you want to use the Aux In, you'd have to have both tone paths separated in your patch as well as having the inputs set up correctly. It may be easier to just use the MP3 in.
  17. Nope, you do it with the VDI alone. The output from the modeling and the pickups are sent as separate channels of digital audio over the VDI connection.
  18. You can set up a dual tone with separate inputs for each path. For one path you'd choose the Variax magnetics for the input. For the other you'd choose the Variax modeling. So you can't have two modeled guitars at the same time, but you can have one modeled and the actual magnetic pickups.
  19. It's basically designed to go direct. The main outs are balanced TRS, so you could actually take one or both of those direct to the board, and it would work fine. If you want to use a direct box, you could do that, too.
  20. Depending on how you have the effect blocks placed in your signal paths, it is still possible that you're inadvertently splitting your signal somewhere along the line. Any chance you could post the tone you're having problems with up here.
  21. I use the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus to power everything on my board, including the M9. I just use the courtesy outlet to plug the M9's adapter in. I just have it velcroed and zip-tied underneath the board. It's pretty simple, though. I just have to run one power cable to my board, and I'm all set. The additional adapters shown powering the Strymon pedals in this picture are no longer there. I was waiting for current doubler adapters to arrive when I took this.

  23. I've actually never heard anyone say they have an issue with getting enough output from the HD500. I've used mine for effects only, and I find that with the amp/line switch set to "amp" and the master volume near full volume, I get near unity gain.
  24. When comparing real guitars, I've found most Strats to be brighter and thinner than Telecasters. The single coil bridge pickup on a Tele can actually sound pretty meaty, whereas with Strats, it can be a struggle to fatten that up. "Twang" is one of those words that seems to have a somewhat nebulous meaning, but I think it gets associated with the Telecaster more than the Strat because of the Tele's ubiquitous place in country music.
