Yeah, definitely do it if you've never done it.
-
That's correct... I missed that you said you were using Edit when doing this. I think this is actually a known bug, or at least quirk, with Edit. The tempo doesn't always "stick". If you set on the device and save the preset, it should be good.
-
Do you have the tap tempo set to global or preset?

In that thread, the guy said he was connecting his cabinet to the Spider's speaker output. That would work. I don't know if the Spider has a 1/4" jack for the speaker connection or if it's hardwired. From the pictures I've seen, I can't tell. If it's 1/4" jack, you should be able to just take a speaker cable from the jack to your speaker cabinet. Obviously if you do this, the speaker in the combo will be disabled.
-
If this is just a passive speaker cabinet you're talking about, the direct out won't be able to power it. You need a power amp. With some combo amps, there are additional speaker output that allow you to connect extension cabinets. I don't believe the Spider II has those, though. You could use the direct out into a power amp of some sort and then go to your speaker cabinet. If you're looking for something small, the EHX 44 Magnum pedal gets good reviews: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/44Magnum?adpos=1o1&creative=55281441601&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CIGk9r3Xk8ECFVFgMgodFGkAbQ

The setting for this is on Page 1 in the Setup menu. Press and hold the "View" button to get to the menu, and you'll see a setting that says "FS Mode". You can choose between "ABCD" or "FS 5-8". You want the latter for pedalboard mode.

I actually think that on the whole, manufactured items are probably more reliable and long-lasting today than they were in the past. Sure, there are some items that were manufactured before that were "built like a tank", but they were probably also a lot more expensive and available to few people. For instance, when I think of some of the crap cars my family had growing up, versus what's available now, I'd take modern car any day. And actually, with cars, the average lifespan of a car keeps increasing. I imagine that you'd find similar things in electronics. It seems to me that laptops, for example, are much better made now than 10 years ago.

The only way they wouldn't be exactly the same is if you happened to have a stereo panning effect in your chain before the mixer block. The pan control for each tone isn't really like a pan control on a channel strip on a mix. It's really like a balance control that controls the left and right mix.

There are some factory presets that are set up for inputs other than the guitar in. So if you are only using the guitar input when you scroll to those settings, you will hear nothing coming through the headphones because nothing is plugged into the inputs that are set up for those presets.

Variax 700 / USB not recognized by Workbench / Monkey
phil_m replied to mrhifi's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Do you have batteries in the guitar and a 1/4" cable plugged in? The VDI interface only provides data to and from the Variax, not power. -
No bug fixes that I'm aware of - it opens up the other voicings and gives you access to some other settings as well: http://line6.com/dtv2update/
-
Have you installed the 2.0 update for the DT? It gives you access to all the voicings that are available with the HD500X. You have to use MIDI to do it, but you can do it. It's definitely easier with the 500X, but you do have to option to access those voicings without it.
-
Well, the stock voicing in the II position is the Park 75 Plexi... I don't really consider that a high gain amp. It can get pretty crunchy with hot pickups, but it's less saturated than people may think. I actually think it gets to a bigger overall issue. People often assume that more gain is used on recordings than actually was. You actually need less saturation than you think to get some pretty heavy-sounding tones.

Well, a Fender Twin is a non-master volume amp in real life. In order to get it break up, you have to turn the volume up to the point where the power amp starts clipping. The preamp in a Twin doesn't really provide gain to the point of distortion. So in regular mode, the DT50 is kind of behaving like a real Twin would. The modeled portion of the amp is the preamp, and then the power amp is a real power amp. If you cranked the DT50 to the point where the power amp was clipping, I assume it behave similarly to a real Twin. But it would be so load at that point, that most people could never use it at these volumes.
-
In low volume mode, you're using modeling to emulate the power amp portion of the amp, and the drive knob is controlling that. In regular mode, the drive knob is really just controlling the preamp gain.. So, yes, it's an expected feature.

It's not the same as the M13 flash. You can find the actual file here by selecting the M9 and "Flash Memory" from the pull down menu. However, I'd try doing the update through Monkey before doing it manually.

Well, you need to have different scenes saved for the different scenarios you're talking about. The easiest way is to create one scene with all the effects where you want them, save it, and then copy it to a different location. Than go in that scene and turn on the effects you want and save it there. Repeat that process as necessary. This is how I used the M13. If you're in latch mode, and you do need to get in scene to turn effects on and off, you just have to hit the "scenes" switch.

I'd be surpised to see any significant changes in the core 2.0 tones. Sure, some people don't like some of them, but I think now it's been over a year since the HD update, and if Line 6 was really worried about that, they would have done something about it by now. I think their general sentiment is that the new models more accurately reflect the guitars that they modeled. I also think that the differences between the 1.9 and 2.0 firmwares seems more pronounced when using a VDI connection. I'd be curious if people have tried using the JTV with a traditional rig with a 1/4" cable.

Spider IV, 150, does not sustain, cycles out
phil_m replied to danda01's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
What do you mean by "cycles out"? Are you saying that the signal just fades out quickly? It sounds like it may be an issue with the noise gate. -
Actually, if you have no amp selected in the amp/cab block, the bypass volume doesn't come into play. The signal just goes straight through that block. The bypass volume on comes into play if you have an amp selected but turn it off. It's a rather limited set of circumstances that I could see it coming into play.

Mac not detecting UX1
phil_m replied to Andiferum's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
The Line 6 drivers have not be updated to work Yosemite yet, so that's why you're having this issue. Line 6 should be updating them within the not too distant future. -
That would be pretty cool... Although, I think most people wear their watch on the hand opposite of their dominant one, which would mean that most guitarists would probably wear a watch on their picking hand instead of their strumming one.

Line 6 Edit does not accept my XT
phil_m replied to Swift59's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Line 6 Edit was replaced with Gearbox, well, quite a long time ago. I don't remember when exactly. But I believe that if you're using the Windows 7 drivers for the XT, you need to use the Gearbox editor, not Line 6 Edit. -
Music Stores that carrie JTV Guitars
phil_m replied to crossstudio's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The GC in Edina had about a half dozen JTVs at one point. They actually had a whole display set up once when I went in. Now, I think they're down to one or two. The one I tried to play didn't have a battery installed, and they didn't know where to get one. That kind of makes having one on display almost a moot point. I've not me very many employees at guitar stores who are all that good at showing customers how the more technically advanced products work, unfortunately.
