There are so many variations of configurations made to each individual users Windows machine that it could any one of a thousand reasons it failed. Driver conflicts are only one of the usual suspects among all the other high tech gaming mods etc., that get piled onto the operating systems house of cards. Mentioning cards, also brings to mind the spate of complaints regarding SD cards casing issues. Is this sort of stuff really the fault of Line 6? Then Apple makes major changes, not only to to their OS, but also the hardware, and again Line 6 are in the firing line. It might be that many of the people who complain about this stuff have the wrong idea about how many people actually work for Line 6. Even though they are part of the Yamaha Guitar Group, they are still a relatively small bunch of renegades who bring this stuff into the real world. Re Native - this information has been here since 2017. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, The answers to both your questions, and much more are in the Helix Native Pilot’s Guide. Read, study, and inwardly digest. It’s free - and built into HX Native - simply click on the Question Mark Icon in the lower left corner of plug-in window, between the Gear Icon and your Account Status. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Oh, dear - Apple screwed up again? Try posting in one of the Apple forums and see if they have the answer as to why their new OS has messed everybody up. If you get a reply, it would be interesting to hear their solution - as long as it isn’t “everyone should just fall in line with what we say”. Hope this helps/makes sense.

That’s good to know - if only others would fully read the release notes, owner’s manuals and previous posts before opening yet another thread where they squawk like there is a fox in the hen house “update bricked my Helix” and “I now have a $1000 paperweight”. Surprisingly, possibly through embarrassment, very few come back to explain what actually went wrong and how it got fixed. I tend to try to be as helpful as possible when English isn’t the first language of the poster. Although frankly, after this last debacle, that was supposed to make updates easier - I might just retreat to get on with my life and let them figure it out. It really has stopped being amusing and started to become tedious now. Post Traumatic Stupidity Disorder. ;-)

Yes, but in your post saying - “I really wonder how hard would it be to take more than 6 months to adjust a plugin...” it gives the impression that you might have some insight as how to do this quicker. How about complaining to Apple that their update broke just about every audio plug in available, not to mention all the other applications which suddenly ceased to work. Everybody has to fall in line with Apple’s decision to change - like it, or not. Yeah, right. Anyhow, you might like to check the comment from “phil_m” in this linked thread - he’s Beta Tester for Line 6 Helix products. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I have noticed that every time after installing the latest new firmware, for some reason my Helix sounds absolutely hideous - there is a persistent and awfully irritating dull low droning background noise that sometimes turns into shrill whining noise, but it seems to only occur for short time just after every update. Oh... now I realise that actually it is not my Helix - it’s just the distant sound people who did the update incorrectly, moaning and groaning that the update has “bricked” their Helix, or HX Native doesn’t run correctly on their Big Sur M1.

You could give it a try, and then let us all know ;)

Program presets in Native for Helix (LT) possible
datacommando replied to Hillman1312's topic in Helix
Hi, Page 15 Helix Native Pilot’s Guide -> Preset Compatibility with Helix and HX Devices. “HX Stomp Mode - Presets exported from an HX Stomp device can be loaded or imported into Helix Native in this mode (or back into HX Edit with an HX Stomp device connected), with no translation required.” I’ve been exchanging presets between my Floor unit and Native right from the off. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Uh? Why? The release notes for the latest Firmware/HX Edit states: Compatible OS: Mac OS X, Mac OS El Capitan, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave, macOS Catalina, macOS Big Sur Hope this helps/makes sense

That's very bizarre - better contact Customer Support and raise a ticket. Sorry cannot suggest any other option. Hope this helps/makes sense.

That seems to be rather extreme. If I'm using headphones on my Helix using the Phones Output knob, I would usually have it set somewhere between the noon and 3 o'clock position. Anything higher than that would seriously damage my hearing. I regularly use a pair of closed back Audio Technica ATH-M50x rated at 38 ohms and/or a pair of really cheap semi open Superlux HD 668B rated 56 ohms. It all works fine for me, don't have a Stomp to check it out though.

Hi, again, Thank you for the clarification of what it is that you feel could be improved in the Helix. Now it makes a little more sense and not such a diatribe of the free firmware. Although, you may find Ideascale confusing, and it looks a complete mess when you go through it, it's the only place available where users can post suggestions that have a hope in hell of coming to fruition. I have no concept of how the suggestions are prioritised or selected for inclusion in any updates - guess we're stuck with it, but there it is. Have fun.

Hi, I read the whole thing - I just didn’t quote it all, as with this one. To me, it did appear to be critical of the new things added to the firmware. Which, when you consider these things are given to users for FREE, comes across as rather ungrateful, especially when you mention a certain other brand as comparison. If you really are commenting that some effects were not up to scratch right from “Helix at it's birth”, then I stand by my original question: “are you sure that you bought the correct product”. On one hand you say it is, “one of the most stunning pieces of equipment available”, having previously said that Line 6 should, “spend at least one update correcting the shortcomings that exist in the unit”, and now “the new Quad Cortex are revealing poor quality elements.” Very odd. Anyhow, as you are no doubt aware, if you wish for any changes, additions, or improvements to the FREE firmware updates, then Ideascale is the place to post, and make sure others have not made similar requests or it will thin out the votes. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, once more, Well, first up - I’m really not amused in the slightest to read your update. It’s outrageous! This situation is ridiculous, although, I did mention in my earlier post that this thing could go “down the rabbit hole” of working while in the presence of a technician and failing later. I imagine that you contacted the repair shop immediately, and informed them of what was happening with the Helix. If not, do it now. Also inform Line 6 Customer Support to let them know the situation has not been resolved. Furthermore, I would take this right to the top - contact Frank Ritchotte, (Senior Director of Operations, YGG, Line 6 Inc). fritchotte@line6.com Make him aware of your situation, that should get things moving. If this doesn’t get a result, because you’re in the U.K., you still have the option of contacting your local Trading Standards office and seeing if they can pursue this on your behalf. As for your comment - “But perhaps these boxes just have limited shelf lives.” I certainly hope that “planned obsolescence” is not an option here, I’ve had mine since late 2015. Hope this helps/makes sense

Did you follow the link to the thread, in my earlier post above - someone in there said they had found a solution?

READ THE RELEASE NOTES! How do I update to 3.11? Any chance you've already updated HX Edit to 3.01 (released on Feb 2, 2021) or 3.10 (released on April 15, 2021)? If so, just connect Helix/HX to your computer via USB and launch HX Edit. The software will walk you through the entire procedure, including backing everything up to your computer. If you updated HX Edit to 3.10, THAT IS THE NEWEST VERSION AS OF THIS WRITING. I updated but why don't I see [Model X]? HX Edit can't magically see new models added to your Helix/HX hardware; you must update HX Edit at well. Here's a link: macOS: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=10457 Windows: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=10459 Ye Gods, will this nonsense ever end? Oh! Yeah - we’re all busy - usually sorting out this stuff! Congratulations on a truly astonishing first post? Hope this helps/makes sense.

Not sure if you posted that "So, any news?" question in an attempt to be mildly amusing, or simply annoying, because you obviously didn't bother to read the release notes for the latest Firmware 3.11 and the earlier Flash Memory 3.10 along with HX Edit 3.10. You shouldn't need to ask. Compatible OS: Mac OS X, Mac OS El Capitan, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave, macOS Catalina, macOS Big Sur Strange first post. What a shame...
-
Ah! that's why I added the link - faster than typing ;)
-
Hi, This is perfectly normal after an update - your presets and being upgraded to work with the latest Firmware. Simply to save me a lot of typing - you may want to read through this for information. Hope this helps/makes sense.

The on-screen message appears to indicate that the Firmware (Flash memory) is failing to complete the required update write routine to the Microprocessor. The MCU uses on-chip embedded Flash memory in which to store and execute its program. Storing the program in this way means that the MCU has a very short start-up period and can be executing code very quickly. This is failing before completion. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix and HX Edit not recognizing .hlx format after 3.11
datacommando replied to iamthetony2's topic in Helix
Yep, the .hls file indicates that it is a Setlist not a preset file. You don’t say how you are trying to load the files, but I would suggest that you try again. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
To reiterate what has been posted previously in reply to your issue - there is no such thing as a folder button on any of the HX range of units. Just to be clear - it helps if we are all using the same terminology that is used in the Owners manual. - here we go! PRESET - Turn this knob to select a preset. Press the knob to open the Setlist menu—see “Selecting Presets and Setlists” SAVE - Press this button to rename and save changes to a preset. MENU (3 Stacked Horizontal Lines) - Press this button to dive a bit deeper into Helix, and you’ll find Command Center, Global EQ, Global Settings, and other menus. HOME (House Icon) - If you ever get lost, press this button to return to the main Home screen. AMP (Amplifier Icon) - Press this button once, or multiple times, to quickly jump to the tonestack parameters (Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, etc.) of any Amp+Cab, Amp, and Preamp models in the current preset. Therefore, from you description in the posts you have made, hitting the “HOME” button produces no result, because you have not moved away from the home page. CORRECT, that is what it does. Likewise pressing “SAVE”, the “MENU” icon buttons produce the correct result. TICK! Pressing the “AMP”icon, will simply keep you on the same screen, but bring up, Amp and Cab in the current preset. To get access to what you are calling “Folders” - (SETLISTS), simply press the large round encoder knob below the legend “PRESETS” If this doesn’t work, then you have a hardware problem that will possibly require a technician to repair it. Hope this helps/makes sense.

That’s good news, glad you managed to find a fix. The “Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode” was a thing that became a big issue around the 2.8 firmware update when a major changed happened in the core operating system of the Helix family of products. It was highlighted in the release notes for that firmware, and from reading the recent posts about this glitch, it seems to be mainly happening to people who are updating firmware from pre 2.8. Updates can be temperamental, but hopefully from here on in you should be fine. Have fun! Hope this helps/makes sense
