  1. Yep, As much as I would like them to expand the HX reverbs, and fix the "mix" issue... (especially in mono) Signal metering, and clip indicators are my number 1 hope that get added in the next FW update.
  2. Another thing is physical feedback is missing on the recorded file. The sound of your fingers, neck noise like frets, strings, and the pick clang of you physically being there is no longer mixing in with your monitor'd sound. (as you are touching the guitar with added vibration feedback) Even if the preset you used to monitor, is exactly the same as the one you are ReAmping with. Native, or Hardware, the physical element is no longer there. If you are not use to recording much, or recently started doing it at lower volumes, this might become more noticeable. Also if you don't have your ASIO settings correct/optimal then you might be experiencing latency like mentioned above, but a lot of this is going to be fixed if you edit (mult/comp) your guitar takes. IF you are wet monitoring through your Helix hardware this shouldn't be an issue anyway. Just a little bit of nudging in editing.
  3. No worries on the hijack lol. I actually know how to set up the sending automation from the DAW through USB to Helix Rack. Thing is it isn't always reliable. (I think it is half Helix fault, half my DAW's fault) I use FL Studio 12.5. FL Studio 20 just launched with a slew of improvements/changes, but I am waiting a few months until all the bug fixes are patched in. I am hoping that with the updates/improvements of FLS 20, and the midi improvements in the Helix in FW 2.6... that most of these issues will be ironed out. Unless your post was directed to Roberttheprole. Either way its cool :)
  4. Interesting. I basically use Helix Native for ReAmping these days as automation with it is so much more reliable, and smoother than setting it up to go through USB. Automating something in the Helix using Midi CC from the DAW was quite sporadic for me, and not always reliable. This would be great, because I could reduce some CPU load in projects by bouncing the load of one of my guitars back to the hardware, while one is on Native. I dial in my guitar tones in context while listening to the full mix. So if this 2.6 update fixes those problems then that would be a great update indeed before even getting to mention any of the goodies that may come along with it.
  5. Agreed on the subtleties of the player. The owner of Diamond Guitars, and I were having a conversation a little over a year ago. We got on the subject of gain/distortion as he also owns Diamond Amps. AC/DC was brought up, and according to him: They used little-to-no gain/dist, but they cranked their master vol. Now I don't know if that would help you, but I figured you either know this to be true, or false. OR you haven't heard it yet, you could try it, and it may help. Didn't hurt to post it. ;)
  6. I don't know, but I am curious/interested in seeing what this new "addition of polyphonic team of experts" has planned for Helix.
  7. How about this... How about a dedicated block for a notepad? This way it doesn't take up real estate on the screen unless you have it set to that block. This route leaves more room for signal meters, and clip indicators on each block. Imageline - (They make FL Studio) has a couple of notepad (plugins) that you can insert on any mixer channel FX slot. I use them quite a bit. I am a studio musician only. So I keep a lot of my notes about the patches I use in the projects on the DAW. Plus a dedicated notepad block wouldn't take up any dsp hardly, and would be easier to implement (speculation, but not completely pulled out of my lollipop) You could even use the second path if only just for the notepad block, as it does not even need to be in the signal chain. What do you guys think?
  8. Yes. I would much rather signal metering, and clip indicator for individual blocks.
  9. I personally wouldn't see a need for this, as couldn't you use a cheap tablet to do this? That said, I would selfishly prefer the devs spend time on other advancements/improvements/additions to Helix. However, I won't stand in the way of such a feature, if it doesn't take much to implement. The downside would be increased wear & tear on helix knobs, and wheels. Unless you do it in HX edit first, and port it over to the hardware.
  10. While this may be worth-while for many interfaces. However, with Helix I don't know if the benefit would be worth even half of that. I honestly doubt most of us would even notice the difference... Especially for the price they are asking. That said, I would still be interested in comparison clips.
  11. ☺ One of the greatest spoofs of all time. what's happening now, is happening now-now.
  12. Honestly, I would say save your money until you can invest a bit more into a pair of monitors. Also check sales during holidays. If you save a bit more, and check the sales, your patience can potentially "pay-off."
  13. No problem. I am glad you like your Helix, and I am glad I could help.
  14. You are correct in your input, output on Helix for recording. For ReAmping your next step is take the dry track in your DAW, and send it back out through USB. You have a choice of USB 3&4, USB 5&6, and USB 7&8. Any of these will work fine, but choose 3&4 for now. Now on the Helix you need to change the input to USB 3&4 (or whichever one you set it to in your DAW, they have to match) Now the ReAmped signal will be sent back to input 1&2 on your DAW (same as your original "wet" tone.) Just be sure to mute the original wet guitar signal you recorded along with your dry track. Hope it helps.
  15. For more capabilities to those that do not want to go the IR route. More built-in potential. Some people like the HX cabs, but just want to be able to move the mic more than forwards, or backwards.
  16. Yea, I am far from the first to request that feature. I do think I get slightly better results from IRs. ( I use the 3sigma Audio ACE variants) But I do think that having this off-axis parameter would help close that gap some. I have gotten some tones that I really like from the on board cabs, this only expands the capabilities.
  17. The_Elf, I appreciate you keeping this thread updated. I hardly use the tap tempo, or MS tempo much. (I usually stay in BPM dividends, SYNC) That said a good engineer knows as much as possible about the equipment that they use. I like it when people that have issues on this forum keep the threads they started updated. I try to do this myself back when I got Helix, and had issues. I tried to update the threads with not only things I found wrong, but with things that I found worked, and things I was doing wrong. So anyone else that has the issues, and searches the internet may find there are some actual possible solutions, instead of just someone slamming a product. But I may have missed one, or two. lol Since then I have learned most of the quirks of my system. I try to encourage others to do the same as there is no perfect system out of the box, and many that see there system as perfect (or close to) are largely just overlooking the quirks that they have learned to work with. Hope you get an update soon.
  18. I honestly would prefer there to be a focus on amps other than Marshall for a while. I would prefer more Engl (there is only 1 in the Helix) JVM would be good, and all, but I would rather some of the holes in other amp companies filled, at least for this year. I would also like to see some of the lesser known amp models that don't really appear in modelers much like Diamond Amps. We got a great "unique" amp model with the Cartographer. I think some more of that would be great.
  19. Yes please!!! I was guessing a big update either this month, or next. Also the NAMM I was referring to Summer NAMM, not the one in January.
  20. oops my bad, I thought it was late February. That must of been the 2.50 release. The latest was also just a bug fix too.
  21. Hmm, perhaps they could include this in Helix Native? It already has input & output meters. Just need some clip indicators. The clip indicator should be doable on the hardware. That limitation, if true, shouldn't affect that. Just have the blocks have an indicator of it clipped. Either on input, it output. Doesn't have to be real time visually. Just if it clips at all, have an indicator that doesn't go away until volume of that block is adjusted.
  22. OR do you think they are saving the goodies for one giant update around NAMM? I know some get grilled for asking questions like these, but it's been almost 3 months sine the last update. So I think it's a fair curiosity. I personally would like to see, more than anything, some signal metering input/output & at least a clip indicator on each block in the chain. That is definitely my number 1! Plenty of Ideascale submissions on this. Next in the list would be the expansion of HX reverbs. I think the last update fixed the mono versions wet not being wet enough issue. But I am not sure on that, as I am still on 2.50. I would also love to see more parameters in the HX cabs. Specifically off axis mic positioning. That would be really cool. As far as Amps, I would say the XTC, and more Engl. Other than that I would want more Line6 originals. I realize that the next update will not include all of this. Though hopefully some of this will be, especially my #1. What do you guys think? What would you like to see?
  23. To be fair false advertising is something that we in The States use to go after, and penalize. Now that is a rarity, because marketing these days, advertisements can basically lie through their teeth, and be somewhat protected under the 1st amendment. For a developed nation, we have some of the worst consumer protection. Which inevitably fuels that. Have you seen marketing in The States? How about commercials that target The States? That said, I hardly ever make purchases without due research.
  24. Oh yea, I don't do much in the way of snapshots, but I do a lot of automation with Helix Native. For one guitar solo I had the patch with automation between 3 different IRs (for IR block A) in a parallel path. Block B was left alone. I automated with some 3sigma IRs. Block A was all the same cab, but 2 different mic positions, and switching between tube, and solid state versions. It is hard to explain it but the differences are very subtle, but added to the dynamics a little. It made it less static sounding. Breathed extra life into the tone. Lots of cool stuff you can do. The rabbit whole of the Helix, (or audio engineering/mixing in general) is always deeper than one realizes. I try to make it where I learn something new about music, (and the industry) every couple of days. ------- About the HX Cabs, I can get some pretty good tones out of them as they are now. I think I get better results with IRs overall. That said if they added mic axis position parameter then I think the HX Cabs could really be a contender. I find myself liking at least one of my IRs in the parallel chains to be position 3, 4, or 5. I think those are off axis. If HX Cabs had that parameter the tonal capabilities of the onboard cabs for the Helix opens up quite significantly.
