  1. Purely for balance of opinion and not to disregard other's wishes, I like it just how it is for quick reference in the heat of battle.
  2. I've tried various companies, but still prefer this for warm fatness. My taste is Blues->HeavyRock. I play in a band covering Elvis->BrunoMars (Inc Stones, ACDC, GnR, and pretty much any party music). I favour the M75 speaker with the AKG414. To me sounds the most cab in the room i've found. It has a lot of beef and does need a fair bit of low cut, but good to have more than enough. http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=164
  3. Just had another look and it seems to be missing, it said to go into Microsoft Explorer11/Edge settings, advanced settings, and turn off 'Help protect me from malicious sites and downloads with Smartscreen filter' as that can cause problems
  4. Possibly a corrupted download, I guess some people missed this. When you click the GET DOWNLOAD button for the Helix app on the website, it opens the Software License Agreement page, just above the Decline/Accept and Download buttons there is a blue Attention! box. Edit!!!! See below
  5. Did you backup your presets before update, install new v2 line 6 edit, then update to v2 firmware, reset system with 9+10 (5+6 for the rack unit), then reload presets to conform them to the new firmware? Update doesn't seem to limit dsp for me in anyway
  6. This may explain things a bit. http://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/q-how-much-headroom-should-i-leave-24-bit-recording
  7. Can also stick a compressor after the delay
  8. Same for me too. For live in a rock 3 piece I love the M75 speaker with the AKG414 mic, full bodied and amp in the room like. It's great having the options across the cone for tighter and brighter to dark and more complex. The other mics and combinations are great for recording to really tailor to the mix.

    Global EQ

I remember reading a long while ago that global eq doesn't affect digital outs...
  10. Me too, approx 448-490, then 735-780. Just from my memory, something like that. Everytime since the upgrade to 1.10 7th April, can't say I noticed anything before then. Have tried reset 10+11 'upgrade presets to latest format'. Everything seems to work ok though.
  11. Loaded the freeset in my Helix this afternoon, loaded the Ownhammer IRs previously purchased, put a looper at the end of path 1a and dialed down the Marshall a little bit to balance the lead with the loop. Had the inevitable request at tonight's gig, the singer didn't know purple rain, but I gave the audience a few loops with some soloing over it, they were most appreciative, sounded just perfect...Thanks Scott
  12. Sounds great Scott, request emailed

    helix

je ne peux pas parler français . peut-être Sebastian Plourde message sur la page facebook Helix, 'Line 6 Helix User Group'.
  14. On my windows 10 laptop I select and drag all current irs from Helix editor in one hit to a new folder. To reload them I open a 'date saved tab' and click it and it puts them in the right order ready to drag back in. Warning! Worth testing first, on my older windows 7 laptop they don't reorder quite accurately, guess the time stamp doesn't have quite enough resolution. Obviously this won't work if you have spaces and I have no idea about Mac
  15. If you mean on your mixer you have the gain turned all the way down, on the Helix in global settings ins/outs you should change the xlr or 1/4" (which ever you are using) output level from line to instrument. Similar on our mixer, it is expecting mic level, so line is probably pushing the input a bit hard and it may be compressing and slightly distorting
  16. I do it like this, you have to drag the cab/IR from 2 a to 2b, then the same with the y-merge. Have to do it manually on the actual Helix as the editor has a bug which doesn't like to do this
  17. Have you seen this? No personal experience...yet A variety of options available from graphtech, different bridge options and acoustic and/or?! GK3 preamp modules http://www.graphtech.com/products/brands/ghost
  18. You could easily have written to Line 6 customer services and informed them of your opinion, but you decided to come on the forum and offer it to all forum members, which is fine.If forum members experience is different and they wish to disagree with you that is also fine, you don't necessarily have to repeat yourself over and over, I don't believe that will change their opinion. For forum browsers whom maybe considering a purchase, the balance of these opinions is valuable and they will draw their own conclusions. You say the Helix has a certain tone that sounds dark and muddy, lacking in presence, you weren't happy that the reverb made the guitar sound distant or with the roll off with the guitar volume control. You say these things are fixed and cannot be edited. I disagree with this, I think it is entirely editable. Yes it can be dark and muddy, but I have also learned how to achieve a bright clear tone. I can have the guitar lost in a sea of reverb, or have it standing clearly above the ambient backdrop. Once I have a preset sounding the way I want, rolling back the volume on my guitar produces exactly what I would expect with a good valve amp, trimming the gain and the highs. You say the the Helix has a certain sound that will not suit all tastes and I believe it is versatile enough to be tweaked to suit all tastes. I didn't see anywhere what equipment you are using the Helix with, which I think could be useful information to others. Sorry it didn't workout for you and I hope you find what you are looking for.
  19. Yes, I agree that what you plug the Helix into is going to have a big impact on how it sounds and affect the ease of tweaking, but i don't really see that as a Helix failing. The FH1500 was announced 3 hours after I bought my Helix, I think I would have probably have got one instead, as an all in one solution. I could have returned the Helix but decided to persevere as there weren't any FH1500 out to try and I had already waited 3 months. It did take me a lot of searching to find an FRFR coupling i was happy with for live. Glad you are getting on well with the FH, l'll definitely have to try one out eventually.
  20. True and fair enough, what ever you plug into can make a vast difference. I've tried returns on my MK3 boogie combo, Peavey classic 50, and my favourite an Orange OR15 with Marshall cab. All different results. Haven't tried with my H+K or Cornford yet, but i did get the Helix more for using a minimal size gigging rig. Currently using EV ETX 12P for FRFR As I said I did initially prefer the purity of the preamp only option. Maybe I was a bit quick to switch opinion, you've inspired me to give preamps only another go.
  21. It does take some time to master the Helix, but it has the sonic capability to sound however you want. After following this thread for a few days i'm gonna have to go with this harsh quote from the AX8 vs Helix thread. 'Spoiler alert: If you can't get a good tone out of either one of these units, it's your fault. Plain and simple. It's not that your ears are that discerning, you just don't know what you're doing.'
  22. Initially I thought the preamps only sounded better. After some experimenting I realised I was losing a lot of character compared to the full amp without cab. The Mandarin lost a lot of gain and the Divided Duo was incredibly quiet. Other wide fluctuations between preamps. I don't think you adversely affect tone having the power amp SIM into your boogie, just have more shaping options. Maybe worthwhile to keep trying both.
  23. Cool...if it's the reason. I assume horse power won't determine sound quality, there's either enough power to crunch the math a block needs or not. You have got me wondering though in terms of processor headroom, latency and whether that could affect quality.
  24. No, it should sound the same I believe. It is possible you are doing the same or similar as I did http://line6.com/support/topic/19035-cool-mistaketip/ The input to B. should be set as none, in theory, if set to All extra DI guitar will be added to the chain post amp. I do still like to split the blocks between the DSPs. Can leave more spaces for future additions and I feel the preset has a slightly faster loading time if they are sharing the work. Apparently some of DSP A also handles further operating system functions so I weight block balance to DSP B. Not confirmed.
  25. Hi Michael, I had a similar experience, but now I think it sounds amazing. I was used to hearing some great sounds on YouTube, but when I first plugged in I found it very bright with some boominess in the low end and the distortions sounding rather harsh, nothing like I had heard or was expecting. This was with decent studio monitors and headphones. Into the return of an Orange OR15 head with Marshall cab it was pretty decent, more what I am used to. I purchased an FRFR monitor, Atomic CLR and found it much the same as the studio monitor. Over the following 2 weeks including latest firmware upgrade I became happier, partly ears adjusting to FRFR as opposed to usual amp cab. I tried global eq cuts, Low cut as far as 200Hz high cut down to 3kHz, got a bit clearer in the bass but taming the shrill highs enough got quite muffled. It really started to become what I had hoped for when I tried some Ownhammer IRs and applied the cuts there rather than global, which I now set Low 60Hz and Hi 6kHz on top of IR cuts. Not the recommended use, eq in the presets, Global eq flat and just used as a master tweak for differing monitors to your norm or different venues. but works for me atm, for live use, with 6 string electric only. 4 weeks in I was getting what I wanted, I suppose more of a traditional amp sound and less a Mic'd up cab through a monitor. 12 weeks in, I am much more adjusted to FRFR, eq has become less extreme, I have really learned a lot. Quite into the stock line 6 dual cabs now. It is it's own beast and does require some taming. There are so many options even on just one cab, in terms of Mic choice distance and eq. I am not new to hi tech, 53 years old, 38 years of regular gigging, all manner of rack gear and Valve heads and cabs, and studio engineering experience (mostly spare bedroom!), no experience with modelling. It took a long while to get the best from my Helix and now I couldn't be happier, so stick with it.
