    Ownhammer IR's

The first IR I purchased was the OH PR-M75 G12M-25's(75Hz) It is by a long way my favourite for live use in a 3 piece. It's very chunky with a smooth top end, particularly the AKG414 mic which seems quite neutral.
  2. I sometimes use a Line 6 Vetta 2 combo, so same idea. Neither are FRFR, so personally I run the amp models without a speaker block or IR into the combo power amp (effects return). No need to use a cab model as it's going into an actual guitar speaker, though I've read some folks do, I tried it, but when cranked to drummer level sounds unnatural to me.I do have to put a dummy jack plug in the amp's input and I run a blank preset on the combo. It's a stereo effects return socket, so i use a y lead, 2x mono jacks from the Helix to a stereo jack into the combo, otherwise you only get one speaker, though I believe Flextones come in mono and stereo versions. Sounds great to me and the Vetta 2 has master Bass and Treble controls for room tweaks.
  3. I had a similar sound the other day, I had foolishly opened Sonar a bit quickly whilst Helix was just finishing booting up. Playback was a bit like you described, can't remember if I played any guitar at that moment so it may have just been the PC connection. Possibly something scrambled in the USB communication. There are reports of the editor ceasing communication occasionally, had it a very few times in 18 months, normally when using the onboard Helix controls. Possible USB communication isn't rock solid and FU sometimes? Quite rare though I imagine, i've had very few other problems , 2 lock ups, 1 stuck in boot up.
  4. Some presets I've downloaded needed the volume pedal moved from toe down to heel and back up, to hear anything. Presume they are saved with volume block set to zero, and depends on the global setting being per preset.
  5. The looped is in there, the last block (not highlighted). If it wouldn't squeeze in you could swap one of the reverbs or choruses for an extra delay. With snapshots you could tweak the settings of one of each effect block then have other additional fx blocks.
  6. Looks ok to me. I've attached a pic with everything in one long chain, then you can just turn off the relevant blocks for each snapshot. So I included 2amps JC and Panama and send return loop, you can choose from all 3. An IR if required. I stuck in 2 compressors, one pre one post. I did put in 2x Chorus, delay and Reverb, but you could use one with snapshots to change settings. Wasn't sure about your y-split/merge, you can have everything in series, unless you want the high gain and the clean amp simultaneously, but there is room if needed for parallel fx?! Anyhow it seems possible to have all your blocks in one preset, then switch them and tweak settings between the various snapshots
  7. I initially thought turn it down, why would I want hum?! But do find that thins things out a lot, so generally set at 4-5.
  8. It's the other way round, turning down for colder bias gives more headroom, turning up for hotter bias makes it distort more easily.
  9. It's here, down the page a bithttps://helixhelp.com/models/amps/
  10. There's one I like on custom tone from ages ago, actually played on it earlier tonight. I looked it up, currently on page 108 (28 pages from the end), called "VHII" by stevencruz. It's taptastic! (May need to paste in and reboot to auto rebuild for later firmware)
  11. Very minor bug. 2.20 When user led colours are assigned to snapshot switches the top row always displays the dim/bright setting, regardless if set to off/bright. Bottom row works as expected with either setting.
  12. Scott made a video on the Helix Channel Mimiqry! Line 6 Helix:
  13. Helix feels instant to me. I have an EV ETX 12P, I think the manual states a dsp latency of 2ms. With the combination I think i feel a barely perceptible lag on very fast runs, but my brain seems to cancel it out within 20 secs of playing. I thought much the same trying a Spider Valve II and separately a G30 wireless, again only momentarily perceptible. I could imagine if you were using wireless, Helix with several send/return blocks, a monitor with additional dsp latency and some distance it would become quite ghastly.
  14. I had a similar but minor issue with my main 8 snapshot preset. I have several incarnations of it due to incremental tweaks. On all there is one stomp called bigness that switches between 2 delays and adjusts the reverb mix and decay. Not only was the state reversed, led lit though settings from the off position (easy enough to rectify using capacitance touch to switch through the chain to highlight the bypassed delay, which switches off the led, then saving) but on only some of them, one of the delay block's time had switched from 1/4 to 547ms
  15. Is this not pretty much achievable in 4 snapshots and 4 stomps mode? Snapshots for core tone and stomps for time based FX
  16. Yup it's the same for me into a Vetta2 combo, I have to plug a dummy 1/4" jack plug into the front input of the combo to allow the fx return to work direct from the Helix 1/4" out (no IR). Other cool things, it's stereo and has master bass and treble controls. I also simultaneously use xlr out with an IR to the PA.I assume the fx return would give you more headroom than the input.
  17. Though DI did say this in a previous post "Nope. Path 1 and Path 2 have nearly the exact same amount of DSP. Depending on your Input blocks' gates or Global EQ, one might have a tiny bit more than the other (likely no more than a 2% delta), but there's no "running the Helix OS" on either DSP. You might be thinking of Helix's two MCUs, where one deals with running Helix's day-to-day behind-the-scenes tasks and the other is dedicated to UI."
  18. Damn! My fat thumb gave the Op a +1, meant -1.
  19. My problem is more with the low end. Depending a little on the amount of overdrive and IR choice, I find my neck single coil is good with a low cut around 145Hz to avoid boominess, but then the bridge humbucker sounds a bit skinny and is better with low cut around 90Hz. I wondered if it was due to the low cut slope of the IR block in Helix being a bit gentle, similar to that being said about the hi cut. I never really felt disparity with my main guitar using helix or various real amps through real cabs. I do appreciate your advice about the ice pick, thanks. I should be more judicious with the tone control. I'm ok enough with with the cuts in the IR block. Perhaps they could be improved to avoid some compromise between beef and boom or icepick/fizz and clarity. Maybe i'm still unrealistically hoping to make an FRFR be a 2x12 ! Again, talking live and loud, for recording I can tweak the low end and Iike more brightness
  20. Yes please, particularly for loud drummer levels, greater or adjustable slope on the IR block cuts to tame piercing highs without getting muddy. On the low cut too, I think it would tame the disparity I find between bridge and neck pickups. Is it just me? When I've removed enough low end for my neck single coil, the bridge humbucker starts to get a bit thin.
  21. Our band uses RCF712A for PA on pub gigs. I took one home to tweak presets and really liked it, although i go from Helix XLR with IR to PA but use 1/4" no IR to fx return on a combo for back line. Tried quite a few options when searching for an frfr, Yamaha Mackie EV etc, RCF was definitely in the top. Bass is tight punchy and tuneful not boomy and nondescript like the Mackies. Good balanced sound. The Italian stuff RCF and FBTs are class
  22. Here is a previous post with some filled inhttp://line6.com/support/topic/18804-lets-put-the-real-name-to-the-presets/?hl=artist
  23. Just for balance, I don't feel like mine jumps around and very happy with it. Play live once or twice a week for the last year, certainly find the improved granularity a big plus. Appreciate it must be a pain if it's not working for some others, but I wouldn't want a step backwards.
