The alternate tuning value for each string specifies the number of semi-tones (frets) that the specific string will be adjusted. These steps are relative to the actual physical tuning of the string. For instance the alternate tuning to bring a guitar in standard tuning to Drop D tuning is to tune the 6th string down from an E to a D and leave all the other strings as they are. To do this you would assign a '-2' value to the 6th string reflecting the fact that a D note is two frets lower than the naturally tuned E note. Leaving all other strings the same means assigning a value of '0'. Another example: to alternately tune a standard tuning (E A D G B E) to DADGAD you would assign the following values from 6th string (low E) to 1st string (high E): -2, 0, 0, 0, -2, -2.

CUBASE doesn't see the HELIX ASIO drivers
silverhead replied to LasWaltz's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
You say you are using your mouth as your audio interface. In that case, why do you need the Helix ASIO driver? The ASIO protocol only allows you to use one ASIO device at a time. If you do want to use your Helix as your audio interface, try disconnecting your motu and connect your Helix via USB to your PC. Does Cubase now recognize the Helix and its ASIO driver? -

Long RJ-45 cable for sound check
silverhead replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes - using the looper can be a bit of a tap dance. I suggest you give your plan a test while you're practicing alone. Check for any difference in volume level in your presets when using 1/4" vs. VDI. If there is any you will have to adjust for this during/after soundcheck. -
Long RJ-45 cable for sound check
silverhead replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
This will work to a large extent but there will be at least a minor difference in the sound of the wireless/battery/1/4" output from the Variax vs. the VDI output. Consequently, during the soundcheck with 1/4" you won't be hearing exactly what the audience will hear during the show using VDI. Also, depending on how you set up your presets for VDI input you might have to edit them during soundcheck to include the Guitar input. -
Suddenly using two mics and we're having sound issues
silverhead replied to bethgreen's topic in Line 6 Lounge
There may be interference from your computer wifi router and/or any cell phones in the area. Make sure your XD-V75 receivers are not within about 6 feet of any other electronic device.- 3 replies

I am planning to purchase a 5-system setup of XD-V75 wireless mics and receivers. I plan to rack mount the receivers and daisy-chain them using 2 pairs of the provided rabbit-ear antennae in a 3+2 fashion - 3 systems off one pair of antenna and 2 systems off the other pair. (The recommended limit is 4 receivers off one antenna pair). I anticipate that in some venues it will be awkward or impossible to place the rack in a position such that the pairs of antennae connected directly to the rack will be able to receive a sufficiently strong signal. I am considering purchasing two pairs of 15' or 25' cables for those situations and mounting the rabbit ears on mic stands in an appropriate location on either side of the stage. Does anyone have experience with this setup? Will it work?

Long RJ-45 cable for sound check
silverhead replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The only drawback would be the potential for damage due to some undesirable stress at either end of the cable in case of some sort of cable twisting or tugging. This could damage the connector pins inside the JTV or Helix VDI jack. Not very likely if you're careful but still possible. Have you considered recording a loop in Helix and playing it back while you walk the room for soundcheck? Would there be any difference in terms of your goal? -
Setups And Scenes
silverhead replied to Digital-sound's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Your custom presets should appear in the Channel Preset Library where they are globally available to be used in any scene. To access the complete Channel Preset Library: Scroll to the end of the Stage Icon Gallery, so that you see the More... icon. Tap it. Manual Pages 2-14 through 2-18 provide information on this. -
Direct, unamplified guitar tracks for Native

I would expect the $30 bluetooth headphones to be quite 'boomy' compared to the FRFR speakers. -
Direct, unamplified guitar tracks for Native
silverhead replied to Indianrock2020's topic in Helix Native
How did you record your dry track from Helix? For best results you should use the Line 6 ASIO driver and select USB channel 7 (or is it 8?) as the Record Input Source. That channel sends the dry guitar signal directly over usb to your DAW, without going through the Helix preset. This setting is visble in Global Settings - Ins/Outs (see pg 50 in the manual - Re-amp Src). I think Audacity, by default, uses a driver called ASIO4ALL which is not fully ASIO compliant and likely does not offer you the direct dry signal recording option. If you're using ASIO4ALL that may be the problem. OTOH, it may just be the difference between headphones and FRFR as you suggest. -
XD-V75 daisy chain practical limit?
silverhead replied to silverhead's topic in XD-V Digital Wireless Microphones
Thanks Sheriton. The opposite connection scheme is interesting. I think I'll give it a try but if it doesn't work well it's no big deal I think. I'll just use two antenna pairs and daisy chain them in a 3 and 2 arrangement. I'm not one to complain! -
Does your M20d still work as advertised, and as it did when you bought it? If so it hasn't died. Another update is highly unlikely. It still does what it was designed to do, and what you paid for it to do. You can choose to be disappointed with that if you wish. I'm not at all disappointed with mine - still doing everything I bought it for several years ago.

I am considering setting up a system of 5 XD-V75 wireless mics. I know they have an antenna daisy-chaining capability, and that Line 6 recommends a maximum of 4 receivers in the chain using the same antenna pair. Does anyone have experience in chaining 5 receivers? Will it work?

Note that the pending Helix firmware v2.8 release adds L6 Link compatibility with your DT50 amp. So when that is released (promised sometime this spring - which means by June 21, not March 21) your Helix presets should be able to store and recall settings for both the Variax 700 and the DT50.
-
Yes and no. Officially Helix does not support any Variax products earlier than the JTV. But in practice it seems that earlier products such as the 700 work in a limited fashion over VDI. As far as audio goes, of course, there is no problem at all. But the VDI control features typically work in a 1-way fashion. You can use the Helix device to send Variax model and pickup selector switch changes to the Variax, and you can store/recall these settings successfully in a Helix preset. However, any changes you make manually on the Variax are not received properly by Helix. Of course, you can't control alternate tunings because they are not available as a separate feature in the Variax 700 - they are baked into the Variax model. But again, officially there is no support. If your specific Variax 700 does not behave as I've described there is no help to be had.
-
Yes you can do that with Helix. In the Helix preset you would use a dual path setup. Assign one path Input to guitar and the other to Mic. For the Output assignments you have options. For instance, just before the Output block in each path you could use a mixer block to pan the signals fully L and R; this would correspond directly to your description. Or, you could choose to use both the XLR and 1/4" outputs if you want to retain a stereo output for each. Or you could use an FX Send. Or......

How do i save the Variax Settings with a Helix Tone Preset?
silverhead replied to Maestro77's topic in Helix
The word 'pickup' may be ambiguous here. You can save the Variax pickup selector position in a Helix preset, but the actual pickup(s) being modeled (and their number, positions and orientation) are adjustable using Workbench. Also in a Helix preset you can 'lock' the Variax Vol and Tone knobs so that these knobs can be reassigned as Helix FX parameter controllers instead of controlling the Variax volume and tone. -

General advice: there's a lot of good info in the manual. Specific advice about your snapshots question: see manual section Global Settings -> Footswitches -
Perhaps I misunderstand what you are asking. What exactly do you mean by 'distortion of...the head'? EDIT: If you are talking about the Drive parameter of an amp model, the answer is no - you can't assign that to a footswitch. However you can assign a parameter of an FX (not amp) model to the Tweak function and then use the Firehawk footpedal to control that value within a specified range. That way you could choose a suitable distortion FX and manipulate its gain/level to go from clean to dirty and anywhere in between using the heel-to-toe sweep of the footpedal.
-
You can do what you ask - be able to switch the distortion on/off within a preset - but not by using the same footswitch. In Preset A (or whatever) you can assign the distortion FX to any one of the FX footswitches that appear in the top row - e.g. assign it to FS1 immediately above the A footswitch. Then you can use FS1 to turn the distortion on/off without changing presets. The easiest way to make the FS footswitch assignments is to use the Firehawk remote app.

What version of the Line 6 driver is installed on your system? Make sure it is the latest version. If everything is up to date try reinstalling the HX Edit package (which also includes the latest driver and Line 6 Updater program) and then use the Updater program to reinstall the firmware. If you are still having this issue it may be related to your PC. Open a support ticket with Line 6.
