  1. That depends entirely on how the code/data separation is implemented in the design and architecture of the product. Neither I nor you have any idea of how this is handled in the original Variax products. What is code at the time of original devleopment (e.g. a guitar's standard tuning) might be data at some future unanticipated time (e.g. alternate tunings). Ideally, the design is flexible enough to anticipate that certain elements of today's code might be tomorrow's data. But that doesn't always (often?) happen. Let's remember that the original Variax firmware architecture is more than 10 years old. It's probably not simple to turn code into data. Remember the Y2K fears? You may not. But it took a herculean effort throughout the software industry to prevent serious global security and other important issues resulting from the fact that software developers in the early years had treated the first two digits of a year (e.g. 1960) as code, and allowed only the last two digits as data. The year 2000 loomed large and a lot of effort was expended making sure planes didn't fall out of the sky, elevators drop to the floor, and nuclear reactors go into meltdown.
  2. Perhaps it's my decade or so of experience in software development in a global telecommunications company. NOTHING can be properly integrated, much less tested, into an existing complex code base in a matter of hours or days.
  3. Not sure how you came up with those estimates but I think they are grossly inaccurate. Nor do I think the job is as technically simple as you suggest. But you're entitled to your opinion, as am I.
  4. I am merely repeating what DI said earlier in this thread, at least as far as timing goes. My statement that a new editor, driver, and Updater program are also coming is based on previous firmware releases.
  5. I leave my L3t in PA/Ref mode all the time, for both acoustic and electric Variax models. It sounds great (to me) using both. Are you using the Helix cab/mic models, or IRs? I find this is what gives the Helix presets the electric guitar sound so that I don't need to use Electric Guitar mode on the L3t. All three of these options - cab/mic, IR, Electric Guitar mode - do essentially the same thing. They provide additional EQ to simulate an electric guitar cab/mic combination. If you use both Helix cab/mic or IR as well as the L3t Electric Guitar mode I think it would not sound as good as using PA/Ref mode instead. That's my experience, anyway, with the same gear.
  6. How are you monitoring the sound? If you are using an electric guitar amp it will not sound like an acoustic guitar.
  7. Do you have the Line 6 driver installed?
  8. This is no different from connecting Helix to a power bar with a manual on/off switch, except that the switch is being controlled wirelessly rather than manually. As stated above, Helix neither knows nor cares how it receives power. It either gets power or it doesn't.
  9. Your firmware may be corrupt. Try reinstalling the latest firmware. Back up your setlists first.
  10. The latest word from Line 6 is that v2.20 will be released by end of March. It will likely involve a new editor release, probably also including a new driver and new Line 6 Updater utility.
  11. No. Those levels are reset to zero each time you load a Setup. This is done by design to avoid a situation where loading a Setup in a different environment/venue could result in an extreme volume situation. Differences in venue size, acoustics, and speaker or monitor characteristics could cause problems when speaker/monitor volume settings from a different venue are blindly loaded and activated. As noted above you need to consider this when powering on the StageScape in a venue different from where it was last powered off. The last-active Setup will be loaded, including the previous volume settings. It's wise to use the Mute All button until your are sure the levels from the previous venue will not be problematic in the new venue. The best way to do this is to manually lower the main and monitor levels while Mute All is active and then gradually increase the levels when unmuted.
  12. That depends on the recording program you are using. You would import the backing tracks into your recording program first, by whatever means it supports. Afterwards you would use the Studio GX to record your guitar and bass tracks.
  13. To answer your question.... You can safely delete the version of the Updater program that is on your computer. Any future firmware update will be associated with a new version of the Updater program.
  14. As long as it is advertised under the Products section of this website (not the Legacy Products subsection) then it is still being manufactured. When a product is no longer in production it moves to the Legacy section. Further firmware updates at this point are unlikely but still a possibility.
  15. Most likely the stomp FX were simply not assigned to a footswitch controller by the preset creator. When in STOMP mode, touch (don't press) the footswitch that you want to assign to control the FX on/off state. Confirm the action using the screen display on Helix Rack.
  16. To end the recording of a Loop you press either - the STOP/PLAY switch in which case the recorded Loop continues playing and overdub is Off, or - the REC/Overdub switch in which case the recorded Loop keeps playing and overdub is On Note that in both cases the recorded Loop continues to play. As long as the loop is playing you can press the REC/Overdub switch to enable/disable the Overdub feature. However, if you STOP the playback of the Loop and then press the REC/Overdub switch you erase the existing loop and begin recording a new loop. This may be what you are doing.
  17. After downloading, run the License Manager. The download does not contain the new amp models - it contains a security key that the License Manager uses to unlock the amp models that are already contained in the existing firmware.

    Preset List?

Yes - out of date quickly. For instance any list produced now would likely be out of date within weeks when firmware v.2.20 is released.
  19. Does this happen with all presets or just in one specific preset? Are you using Snapshots in the affected preset(s)?
  20. Does the Wah have a Mix parameter? Lower the Mix level, allowing more of the unprocessed signal through and less of the Wah-processed signal.
  21. Without saving the changes move to a different patch and then back again. What you describe for the Pod XT should also work with the POD HD500X. Are you saying it doesn't?
  22. Open the editor and check the Help -> About Helix... menu. What version is it?
  23. I think you'll have to experiment with the options there. You can control the tracks volume using your iPad and/or with the Return block level. You can control the vocal with a VOl/Gain FX block assigned to an expression pedal controller. One thing to be aware of is that it can get cumbersome using the Helix for vocals and backing tracks if you need to have many different presets for your guitar tones. The issue is that each preset has to duplicate the vocal and tracks settings and blocks. You can't, for instance, leave the vocal settings and tracks active in one preset while you switch the guitar settings to another preset. You can use snapshots to have several different guitar settings in the same preset as long as DSP permits but you may find this limiting depending on how complex your vocal settings need to be and how many different amp models and guitar tones you need. If you are using an acoustic guitar it will be much simpler but for a wide variety of electric guitar sounds as well as vocals it might get cumbersome to duplicate the vocal settings in each preset. It's OK at the start, but if you want to tweak your vocal setting and have it stay consistent throughout the gig you will need to tweak it in all presets.
  24. Yes to all your questions. You can use one of the Helix paths for your guitar processing and include the VOL pedal in that path. You can use the second path for your completely independent vocal processing and include a Return pair of inputs at the end of that second path so that your stereo backing tracks are completely un-effected. Connect the Helix outputs directly to your powered PA speakers. No mixer or amp/pedalboard required. The VOL pedal will affect only your guitar .
  25. Sounds like you have an out of date version of the editor. Go to the Downloads page and get version 2.11 by selecting Helix in the Software, not Products, field. Install all elements (editor, driver, and Line 6 Updater). Follow all instructions carefully and reinstall your firmware. If you did not use the latest version of the Updater program chances are your firmware installation was incorrect.
