  1. Can you describe the updating problem you are having? Include the equipment you are using, the procedure you are using, and exactly where the problem occurs.
  2. Well, you could record or import your backing track into your DAW separately beforehand and then record your guitar in another track while the recorded backing track is playing.
  3. I'm not a lawyer. All I know is that I and others were given clear guidance by lawyers. We could not disclose many things that we knew to be true until after the company had made a clear public disclosure, via official news release, about the intended product direction. These are the public disclosure requirements that you mention. But before those requirements are met, knowledge can't be disclosed. To put it in this context: - a user makes a post here requesting information about product direction. Typically he/she is considering purchasing an existing product and is asking whether it is about to be rendered 'old' by a pending new product release. - a Line 6 employee (or even 'Expert' under a non-disclosure agreement) knows that a new product is pending but it has not been officially announced. The public disclosure requirements have not yet been met (for legitimate marketing and other reasons). - that employee/Expert would be breaking the law/agreement by answering the post with this inside information. And that's exactly what it's called in terms of insider trading rules and laws. It's illegal to disclose insider information and individuals are subject to prosecution. ... and it always seems to be overly cautious behaviour. Until you're charged with insider trading, or being an accessory to it.
  4. Well then something I'm not aware of must have changed in the last several years. When I was an Officer in a publicly traded company several years ago I was certainly limited in the sort of information about product directions that I could talk about publicly. What we could and couldn't talk about was made very clear to us by the company's lawyers. And some of the information that users repeatedly request from Line 6 is exactly the sort of thing we could not disclose.
  5. I can't find a clear answer in the documentation but I suspect the answer is no. That's based on my expectation that the streamed audio coming into Firehawk via Bluetooth is handled in the same way that cd/MP3 audio coming into other Line 6 devices (e.g. POD HD devices) is handled. With previous devices the incoming external audio is passed directly to the analog outputs and is not converted to digital format inside the device. Hence it is unavailable to be routed over the digital USB connection. I expect Firehawk is designed the same way. Edit: Of course you can record the Firehawk-generated guitar signal to your DAW. It's the Bluetooth streaming that probably can't be passed over USB.
  6. Thanks for the good morning chuckle! A good sense of humour like yours come in handy sometimes. Your patience will be rewarded - you're gonna love the Helix Rack / Control combo.
  7. Firehawk presets are not stored in the Customtone database. They exist in 'the cloud' and the Firehawk app searches that based on song meta data, not audio file analysis.
  8. By 1/4" outputs I mean the analog outputs. You won't need to use the digital s/pdif output for your current purposes.
  9. In the Downloads section of this website you will find Workbench HD listed in the Software section, not Products.
  10. You should connect your speakers to either the 1/4" or headphone outputs of the UX2. Your computer's internal soundcard and speaker connections are bypassed as the UX2 becomes your soundcard. You will get best results with studio monitors but until you get familiar with things I suggest you defer that expense and just use your current speakers at relatively low volume until you feel you need to upgrade. Continue to ask questions here one at a time as you learn. New thread for each new question.
  11. No, there's nothing you can do with Workbench HD. You need to use the original version, called Variax Workbench.
  12. You can't save FH presets to a computer (Windows or Mac). The FH presets on an iPad are managed by and within the app. You don't save them separately to some other iPad location. There is no function like the Monkey Save function. The Firehawk app provides the only save/load options for Firehawk presets. The primary storage location is the Firehawk device itself. For backup purposes you can save to My Tones (private) or to the 'cloud' (public). Both of these storage areas are provided and managed by Line 6 somewhere in their corporate IT world.
  13. Not now but I expect later. The same thing happened with the POD HD series - Workbench interface capability was added after initial release.
  14. There are a couple of things I suggest you do in advance if you haven't already done them (your drooling suggests you already have!): - read at least the cheat sheet if not scan through the entire manual - famililiarize yourself with the firmware update procedures and download Line 6 Updater and the Helix app When you get your Helix: - update the firmware first thing, and perform the subsequent procedures such as restoring factory presets. - use the Helix app to back up (export) the factory setlists. - engage in heavy drooling while playing with the factory presets - do a basic sanity check to discover if there are any glaring hardware faults (e.g. Test all inputs and outputs, use the joystick and footswitches and make sure their behaviour matches what the cheat sheet describes, ...). This will allow you to get familiar with basic navigation and editing. Don't use the app while doing this, get familiar with navigating on the device. - inspect the presets in the Template setlist. Get an understanding of the power and flexibility of preset design. Pay particular attention to the inputs and outputs and the various path routing options and examples such as splitting and merging. When you're ready: - begin to customize your own presets, first by copying and editing factory presets to a user setlist, then by building yr own presets from scratch. - use the Helix app frequently to back up your custom presets and/or setlists.
  15. Yes I think you're right. That's a clear explanation of what my muddled brain was struggling with. I think the potential issue I tried to describe was mostly in my mind. Somehow I was thinking that stereo separation might be an issue but now I agree with you. Let us know how it goes.
  16. Hmmm... interesting question. I don't have two L3s; I run M20d and L6 Link to one L3s and two L3t. So I can't test this but I'm not sure I agree with your theoretical assumption. Each L3s/t combination is receiving one half of a stereo signal but of course can't 'know' that. If the signals are summed to mono on each side (is that even meaningful?), either within the L3s or the L3t via L6 Link, is that identical to having each signal treated as half a stereo pair? I'm not 100% sure that the stereo panning in the mixer will translate properly. I confess I'm confused and will have to think further on this. Is there any advantage to not sending both L+R to one L3s and using the L6 Link daisy chain as recommended? I think the only setup difference would be that the recommended setup requires one additional L6 Link (AES/EBU) cable. Is that the motivation or am I missing something? Edit: After thinking a bit more I don't think it makes sense that the L3s could sum the incoming signal to mono because it already is mono as far as the L3s is concerned. But what will L6 Link do with it? How will the L3t interpret the signal it receives - the identical signal that the L3s received (adjusted for crossover) or 'half' of it (whatever that means)?
  17. If you're interested in some further reading on this topic...... http://line6.com/support/topic/17997-using-helix-looper-live/?view=findpost&p=133475
  18. The patches are not compatible. You can't load POD HD tone files into Firehawk, nor vice versa.
  19. Place the looper in POST position in both presets. Assign the looper in both presets to a footswitch. Pressing the footswitch in either preset will cause Helix to enter Looper mode. When switching to the next preset, configured as just stated, the Looper will continue to be active (e.g. will continue to play back the loop).
  20. The VDI connection carries power; the Workbench dongle does not (hence the need for the 1/4" connection to activate the battery). I believe that's the difference in the Workbench situation. Seems that for some reason (the mystery) it's OK to use the 1/4" connection when just using the battery without VDI, but it's not OK to use the 1/4" connection with VDI with or without the battery. In both cases there's only one power source but somehow if the VDI is required to power the models through both the digital and analog outputs it can cause damage to the circuitry - some sort of overload.
  21. A VDI cable has RJ-45 type connectors on both ends. This will not work if connected to an Ethernet port on your computer. You need to use the Workbench hardware interface, which converts an RJ-45 connection from your JTV to a USB connection to your computer. Alternatively you can use a POD Hd500X or ProX device as the workbench interface. ... And yes, you do need to connect the guitar output to an amp or multiFX device. Workbench HD does not produce audio; your JTV guitar does that.
  22. I used a Variax 300 with an HD500 and Variax Workbench for several years and I can confirm that it's a 'Yes' to all three questions. Also, HD500 Edit supports the Variax 300 so you can specify the Variax models while editing presets. Just need to clarify that when you say 'Variax Workbench' you mean the original Workbench, not Workbench HD which does not work with a Variax 300.
  23. Yes, that should be good for audio. Just make sure you configure Sonar to use Helix and its ASIO driver as the audio input/output device. If you haven't already installed the Helix driver you will need to do that first. However, I don't believe Helix can be recognized as a midi interface by Sonar. You can try it but I don't think your keyboard note on/off messages will get through Helix to Sonar over USB. Your M-Audio interface may still be required as a midi interface.
  24. Hey spikey!! Welcome back. Can't wait!!
