  1. I feel the same way about my car. One day it will stop working too and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to afford a Mercedes! What to do??
  2. You can use the Amplifi TT as your audio interface and record directly to your PC. You don't need to mic your Flextone amp unless you want to. If you do want to mic your Flextone you should probably not use any mic/cab model in your Amplifi TT preset. Sorry - I'm not familiar with the Flextone amp so can't advise you on the connection.
  3. It really doesn't matter over the short distances in a studio. Have you considered using Helix as your audio interface? Fewer A/D and D/A conversions as well as direct support for recording dry signal and hardware re-amping.
  4. The design decision might also have opted for similar behaviour in both speakers when you use the side panel mixer along with another device that uses the L6 Link In on one speaker. In the described situation the side panel mixer being used is on the speaker to which the POD is also connected. Technically it is possible to route the mixer input to the other speaker. However if the side panel mixer on the other speaker were used instead, or in addition, it would not be technically possible to route the signal back to the other speaker because it's L6 Link In is already used by the POD. Perhaps Line 6 opted for consistent behaviour in this situation when using the side panel mixer on either speaker.
  5. I agree - actually bricking Helix by loading a corrupt preset is unlikely. But we've seen numerous examples in recent firmware updates where a corrupt preset can cause Helix to crash, and sometimes reinstalling the firmware is the only solution. I also agree that this represents a problem that needs fixing and we know Line 6 is working on an improved firmware update process that we should see later this year. So, at least for the short term I remain of the opinion that manual editing of preset files should be avoided.
  6. That's dedication! Frankly I think your solution is more cumbersome than the problem it's trying to solve, but to each his own. I do know that you run the risk of creating a corrupt preset which will have unpredictable implications, up to and including bricking your Helix. Any small typo that you make could cause significant issues when loaded into Helix.
  7. I'm not sure but I expect the A/D conversion happens somewhere "inside" the Input block in the signal chain (unless you're using VDI in which case it happens inside the Variax). The Guitar In signal enters the Input block as an analog signal. I think the first thing that happens is that the Input-Z parameter is applied to the signal while still in analog form. Somewhere after that is is converted and exits the Input block as a digital signal. If you then place a Send block immediately after the Input block it will undergo a D/A conversion before hitting the Send analog output. But as PeterHamm says it probably won't be noticeable.
  8. Sounds like you have activated the Lock Tone 2 feature. Turn it off.
  9. The last official prediction was February. That means on or before the 28th. Set that as your anticipated date and you will likely be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed.
  10. Check your input settings for the Pod preset. The tuner works with Input 1 but not Input 2.
  11. I agree. It's likely a level mismatch. The L3t rear panel inputs are expecting a Line level input signal while the side panel mixer expects a mic level input. Adjust the Helix XLR output levels accordingly (see global settings).
  12. No. Looper controls and its switches operate independently of Stomp mode switches and assignments. I think this is worth an Ideascale suggestion, though.
  13. The cd/mp3 input passes directly to the analog outputs of the HD500x. The signal does not go through any analog to digital conversion inside the Pod and hence it is not available for output through the digital L6 Link connection. However, the loop playback should not be an issue. Have you checked the playback level setting for the looper?
  14. It should start up in the state it was when it was turned off. In other words if you want it to start on 26A you should go there before you turn it off.
  15. So, since you are going to use this thread to help you decide whether or not to buy Helix, I think you now have your answer. You can buy it with confidence knowing that you now have a preset that is on the right track, and you know exactly what you need to do to make it perfect. Add harmony, less distortion, use both chorus and flanger. Enjoy your Helix!
  16. Comfort and Convenience. The editing controls are as high off the floor as you want them. No backbreaking to adjust knobs. Security. The heart of the system (and the really expensive part) is off the floor and less vulnerable to the drunks spilling beer or stepping on the floor device. The Control unit is cheaper to replace.
  17. In my experience most reports of this sort end up being caused by exactly what Triryche has suggested. The acoustic vibration of the physical string (in standard tuning) is surprisingly loud to the human ear, given its close proximity to the ear when you're playing. It's only a foot or two away from your ear and it's easy to get confused about it. There's really only one way to tell. Record a segment while your guitar is in an alternate tuning mode. The recording will definitely not pick up the natural string vibration. If you play back the recording and the dissonance is present then there's an actual problem. But my guess is you won't hear the dissonance in the playback, which confirms that what you're hearing is the natural vibration. The only way around that it to turn your guitar amp/speakers up really loud - very surprisingly loud - in order to drown out the natural string vibration to your ears.
  18. I would check the OwnHammer license agreement to see if what you purchased is transferable to another person/device.
  19. Ah! I had missed that. Thanks for clarifying.
  20. Exactly. And more specifically in purely physical terms a patch is nothing but a string of 1s and 0s in the Helix memory. The physical patch always exists as a set of transistors or whatever the heck computer memory actually consists of. And it's size and structure has to conform to the specification of a patch - the ins and outs you speak of. I guess there is a way to physically delete/remove the patch but it would involve electronic surgery in Helix memory.
  21. It's normal for the dry signal to be weak. That's what you want in order to reamp/process it in your DAW. Have you tried doing that yet? If not give it a try and see if you have difficulties with the weakness of the signal.
  22. I strongly doubt it. They are completely different products, not just an upgrade version of the same product. For example, POD HD owners were not entitled to a discount on Helix. On the other hand, owners of the original Pod Farm were offered a discounted upgrade path to purchase Pod Farm 2.
  23. Hmmm.... that seems like an odd implementation to me. I've never tried it but I don't question your observation. Perhaps you could get around it by using snapshots to change the pickup selector position rather than manually changing the switch?
  24. On the Input block where Variax is selected, set the Lock control parameter to Lock Tone. This should prevent the tone from changing when you rotate the knob to control another parameter.
