Not sure exactly what you mean by turning the Variax on/off. By 'on' do you mean the modelling, and by 'off' do you mean using the mag pickups instead of a model (assuming you have a JTV or Standard Variax)? The Variax Model selection can be assigned to the snapshot controller like any other parameter you assign to snapshots. Select the Input block in a preset, view the Variax Model parameter, then push and turn the associated knob to assign the Model parameter to the snapshot controller. Select whatever different Variax Models you want in different snapshots. If you want to use the Variax Mags select that in the Input block.

Yes, very nice job Scott, and thanks jbuhajla. Whether you know the sound guy or not, I think it's your/our job - not his - to make sure the gain staging is appropriate within each preset and that there are no unwieldy volume level differences as you switch among the presets or snapshots. We should leave him nothing to do here, not just very little. If anything in that domain gets buggered up it ain't his fault. ... full disclosure - I'm also a sound guy so perhaps a bit sensitive on this point! 😎

In Helix there are separate blocks for Amp+Cab, Amp, Preamp, and Cab. You select the block(s) you want. You can choose to use only the preamp and no cab/mic if you wish. Or you can use the full amp with a cab, either as an integrated unit or separately. In the latter case you are able to place FX between the amp and cab in the signal chain. Each cab model is accompanied by a mic model. There is no 'no mic' option because the mic is required to capture the sound of the cab. If you want to use the DT cab you should throetically not include a cab block in the Helix preset. But there are no rules - use whatever sounds best to you.

I don't know anything about future development plans for Firehawk. Only Line 6 knows and they usually don't declare their intentions in advance. If you start your own thread to ask specific questions you might get some help. For instance, it seems odd to me that you can't overwrite a patch rather than having to delete the old one first, but as you say you've only had the Firehawk for 2 days so perhaps you're missing something. Are you talking about overwriting in My Tones or on the device itself? Probably another user can either tell you how to do it or confirm that it can't be done.

Sure it could be created. So could a mobile-based editor for the POD and Helix products. But the product designs and target markets are different. Users who prefer to edit and download tones to/from their Line 6 devices using mobile devices and wireless connections should choose the Amplifi/Firehawk products. Users who prefer being connected to their computer via usb for those activities should choose POD/Helix products. That's all up front and very clear in the product descriptions and marketing. If you want a sports car, don't buy a truck. Yes, all products could be made to work in all environments - at greater cost. And the vast majority of users would use only part of its connectivity capabilities but pay for it all.

Connect your POD to your Mac via USB. Check the sound settings on your Mac to make sure it is using the POD as its sound card. You will then hear both the computer and POD audio through the POD outputs. Use the 1/4" POD outputs. Your local audio store should have the required 1/4" to RCA adapter. Search online using the term '1/4" to RCA adapter' to find examples.
-
I would use the XLR or 1/4" outputs from the POD rather than the headphone outputs. You will need to get the appropriate adapter to connect to the RCA inputs on your speakers.
-
You can only do that if you connect the POD to the L2t via L6 LINK. It does not work with the analog connections. I think you can do most of what you want with the following setup. All of this is theoretical - I've never actually done or tested it. But give it a try and see if it works for you. - 1/4" L/MONO Out from POD to L2t Channel 1 input with acoustic modelling. Don't use the XLR POD output because it does not sum to MONO. - L6 LINK Output from POD to L2t L6 LINK IN. - use different POD dual-path presets for the Acoustic and Electric sounds. The L2t Speaker Mode setting is hidden within the POD preset. The setting is changed when you recall the preset - you can't change it within the preset by, e.g., a footswitch. The only way to change it within a preset is manually using the physical button on the speaker - impractical for live applications. - in the POD mixer pan the signal paths fully L/R as you mentioned. Also, Mute the unwanted path. - while in each preset, manually set the L2t Speaker Mode as desired, PA/Reference (for Acoustic) or Electric. SAVE the POD preset immediately after making the manual setting. There is no POD edit sequence to save this setting specifically. It is a hidden part of the preset - the current Speaker Mode state is stored when you save the preset. During play, each time you switch presets the POD will reset the L2t Speaker Mode to the invisibly stored state via the L6 LINK connection, even when the audio path using that connection is muted. The preset architecture and physical connections will direct the desired signal to the desired L2t input (Channel 1 or L6 LINK) and mute the other signal. The only thing, I think, that you can't do with this setup is blend/mix the acoustic and electric guitar signals together. It's one or the other and requires a preset change to toggle them. However, you could experiment with placing a VOL pedal in each path and assign both pedals to the same controller, e.g. EXP-1. Set the min/max settings for each pedal to be opposite - one min at 0 and the other at 100 and vice versa. Unmute the paths in the POD Mixer. This allows you to blend the signal paths smoothly as you move the pedal from heel to toe positions. This won't change the Speaker Mode but you may find it's not that critical after all. Don't be afraid to experiment with these ideas - you can't do any harm to the equipment and you might stumble upon a unique setup that works for you.

L2T and L2M sideways in stereo?
silverhead replied to Jos_K's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Have you tried manually resetting the Speaker Mode from Monitor to PA/Reference? I believe you can manually override the default Monitor mode when placing the speaker sideways. The setting button is on the rear panel of the speaker. -
CBTL has made all of his patches available on Customtone. Just use the search term 'CBTL' and you will find them all. You can download the patch and inspect it to answer your question about the settings. But the rationale would certainly be worth hearing! Thanks CBTL for your generosity.

The driver is bundled with the Helix Editor installation file but you can also get it directly. Go to the Downloads area, select Helix (or Helix Rack) in the Product field and select Driver in the Software field.

You need to use the original Workbench product, named simply Workbench not Workbench HD. You should be able to download and install it using Line 6 Monkey but if not you can download and install it directly from the Downloads section of this website. You may have to select an older version of Windows in the OS search field (e.g. Windows 7) in order to locate it, but I believe it should still run properly on Windows 10.

He's been reported - several times. Line 6 prefers to keep official forum sanctions to a minimum. We have all the control we need ourselves. Just ignore him and he'll go away. Seriously - let this be the last post in this thread, and ignore any others he starts.

Sounds like you don't have the latest editor. Go to the Downloads section of this website. Select Helix in the Software (not Products) field. Download the Editor v2.11 installer file (see link at bottom of installation instructions). Follow the instructions carefully to install the editor, driver, and Line 6 Updater program. Then run Line 6 Updater as detailed to install the latest firmware.

While in the Factory setlist and having made the edits to a preset, select Copy Preset. Then navigate to a User setlist, select a preset and select Paste Preset. Edit: After seeing the post below I need to clarify that my method uses the editor on the computer. The method below uses the device directly without the editor. Both methods work.

Amp Room. Every amp in a setlist for a Strat and a Les Paul
silverhead replied to brue58ski's topic in Helix
Your editor is out of date. Download and install Helix editor v2.11 The fact that your editor is out of date suggests that your firmware may not be installed properly. I suggest you reinstall the editor, the latest driver and Line 6 Updater program, and then reinstall the firmware. The installation procedures begin with the editor. Go to the Downloads section, select Helix in the Software (not Products) field, and follow the installation instructions carefully. -
You'd have to look at external factors to stop the cd/mp3 input noise. It's coming from your cables, or the external device, or an electrical hum. You need to control the input volume from the external device. You can use the Aux input but in order to hear it, unprocessed, at the HD500X outputs you need to: - create a dual path preset - assign Path B Input to Aux (assuming Path A input is Guitar) - make sure the path split occurs immediately at the inputs - there should be no FX blocks preceding the path split. This is what keeps the paths completely separate. - make sure there are no processing blocks in Path B. This is what allows the Aux input to pass through the HD500X unprocessed, except for an A/D and then subsequent D/A conversion. These conversions are avoided if you use the cd/mp3 input.
-
Have you tried using the cd/mp3 input on the HD500X for your backing tracks? That's really what it's there for. That input signal is routed directly to the analog outputs. The signal is not processed at all by the HD500X.

The separation from all-in-one Pod Farm to the individual subsets of FX allows you to conserve memory and perhaps CPU cycles in your PC. Each plug-in consumes PC resources when it is loaded. The bigger the plug-in, the more consumption. The individual FX subsets are smaller then the full package, hence conserving PC resources for improved performance.

For anyone who knows enough about Helix to ask the question, the answer is yes!

Try using different usb ports on your computer. Use a back panel port if you can - the front panel ports often use an internal hub and they are not recommended.

I don't know what you mean by your 'clean/normal' tone. A tone is a tone - each preset defines a basic tone along with ability to modify that tone with the application of selected FX. You SAVE the tone in the state in which you want it recalled (clean/normal if that's what you want) and then use the assigned FX footswitches to apply the FX as/when you want while that preset is active. If you want you can define as many 'versions' of a tone that you want and save them in different presets. From clean/normal, to distortion only, then maybe chorus/delay with no distortion, etc..... All versions can be saved as different presets so that you can recall them in that exact state. You will still have the option, of course, to turn FX on/off within any one of those presets.
