Helix update 2.11 causing helix to hang (worse than 2.10)
silverhead replied to maxolla's topic in Helix
..... moved to Helix forum....... -
Since you do mostly home rrecording you will want to pay particular attention to using the device as an audio interface. I don't know about Fractal's abilities in this regard but I know that Helix is an excellent interface with 8 in/out channels via USB, direct recording of two simultaneous dry signals, and easy reamping.
-
Your Mesa preamp will never really sound like a Fender or Vox preamp. As you have discovered most amp players with Helix use the 4 cable method which allows them to use either a Helix model preamp and output directly to the power amp/cab section of the amp, or use Helix for FX only with no modelled amp/preamp and output to the preamp input of their amp. The routing configuration is determined by whether or not the FX Loop in the Helix preset is active.

.... and anyone could submit an Ideascale request where this feature could be considered and prioritized among all official feature requests ......

How to reset presets in my JTV 69 ?
silverhead replied to emink's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Was it? I just copied the above from the current manual. The release notes for the v2.x firmware do not mention this. However, I've not tested this so you may well be right. -
Which gear for a full dual path processing for a stereo instrument?
silverhead replied to galinette's topic in POD HD
Helix can also do this easily with its numerous FX Send/Return loops. You would use two Return inputs and assign them separately to Paath 1 and Path 2 inputs. -
How to reset presets in my JTV 69 ?
silverhead replied to emink's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You can restore the factory presets as follows (from the manual): Set the Pickup Selector Switch to it’s middle position, then press and hold the Guitar Model Selector knob while you plug in a 1/4†cable to power up the guitar. Your Guitar Model Selector LED and Alternate Tuning LED will both ash red. Next, press and hold the Guitar Model Selector knob again. The Guitar Model Selector LED will ash red, rapidly 3 times, indicating all 50 guitar models in the Guitar Model Selector memory locations are now restored to factory settings. Guitar will now return to normal operation. If that fails, try reinstalling the JTV firmware. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/variax-reflash-and-software-update-instructions-r103 -
Players typically use different presets or snapshots for this purpose. Each individual tone that you downloaded is its own preset. Use the Helix edit program to organize these (and all) presets on your Helix device so that they are stored in banks of 4. Then set the up/down footswitches to move between banks and set the display to show/assign a row of footswitches to Presets (see global settings). Then you use the up/down switches to navigate to the desired bank and the preset switches to select, with one foot tap, one of the four presets in that bank. If you want to use snapshots rather than individual presets you can do so (read the snapshot sectoin in the manual). You will be limited by the Helix DSP capacity in terms of how many amps and FX blocks you can use in any preset.

Turn One Footswitch ON...IT Turns Another Footswitch OFF
silverhead replied to jbrown3429's topic in Helix
You can assign multiple FX blocks to the same footswith. Then Save the preset with each FX turned on or off individually as desired for one combined state. Henceforth the FS will toggle all assigned FX on/off simultaneously. In your case, assign all four FX to the same FS. Turn on the three FX used for the Clean setting and turn off the overdrive. SAVE the preset in that state. When recalled, pressing the FS will turn all 3 Clean FX off and will turn the overdrive FX on. -
Go to the Systems settings page(s). The firmware version should be displayed there.

What software, and what new device? If you mean the Pod Farm software that came bundled with your UX2 purchase, that software requires your UX2 connected to your computer in order to work. You don't need the cd - you u can download Pod Farm from the Downloads section of this website. If you want to run Pod Farm with a different device you will need to purchase a license for Pod Farm.

I know we've already got one solution to this (disconnect Helix from your computer), but I think your setup is overly complicated for the purpose of playing along with tunes on your PC. Your reason for using an external mixer seems to be to avoid 'dinking' with volumes in Helix. But even with the external mixer you still have to dink around with volumes either on the mixer channel for your PC or on the PC itself (perhaps even both) in order to balance levels between the Helix channel and your PC channel. A simpler solution, in my view, is to leave the mixer out of your setup. Connect Helix to your PC using USB whereupon, as you already know, your PC audio is sent through the Helix outputs. Just balance the levels using your PC Volume control. Connect your speakers/monitors to the Helix outputs instead of your mixer outputs. Seems to me this involves less, not more, dinking around because your mixer is not involved.

Haven't seen this problem, but the way around it would be to back up individual setlists as opposed to the whole bundle. The setlists are more useful anyway when backing up and restoring during a firmware upgrade.
-
The HD500 organizes presets into 'Setlists'. There are 8 setlists, and the factory installed firmware includes 2 (or 3?) setlists of factory presets. The remaining 6 setlists are named User1, User2, etc. Each of these setlists are filled with blank/empty presets. You can select any one of these setlists and use any one of the empty presets as your starting point for building your own preset.

You may have to click the mouse. If the menu still doesn't appear try reinstalling the edit program.
-
No. The menu I am referring to is the drop-down FX-Type menu at the right side of each of the FX edit windows in the FX page of the HD500 Edit program. When you put your cursor over the downward-pointing triangle a menu should pop up. One of the menu selections is None.
-
On the device itself, use the navy key to select the desired amp/FX block in the signal flow view. Then use Knob 1 to select None as the model type. In the editor software, do essentially the same thing. Select the block with your cursor and then select None in the menu.

Upgrade then restore bundle inserts old factory presets?
silverhead replied to chrisvermaak's topic in Helix
No argument here. The update process is klunky, overly manual and hence error prone. Line 6 is very aware and is working on streamlining it. But it will take time. I'm asking myself this question, and I don't have my own answer yet. Would I prefer updates with new features sooner using the current update mechanism, or would I rather that Line 6 reallocate development resources to improving the update process before proceeding with any new updates? -
Not sure I understand. The Multi input selects the Guitar, Aux, and Variax inputs simultaneously. It does not take the audio from your computer via USB as an input for processing. What I think you are describing is accurate - your computer audio is being doubled, once through your mixer and once through Helix output (unprocessed). So yes, you should disconnect the USB in that setup. But it actually has nothing to do with the Helix Input setting. ..... but again, I may be misunderstanding.

Yes, placing an FX pedal in the HD500X signal chain before the FX Loop in 4CM is structurally equivalent to placing an analog pedal between your guitar and the HD500X input. Whether the HD500X screamer model sounds the same as your physical Tube Screamer pedal, only you can judge.

Workbench compatibility with Pod hd500x and variax 300?
silverhead replied to ioscommuter's topic in POD HD
Yes, keeping an old XP system is the way to go if you want to keep old technology working. And those who want top keep their Variax JTV/Standard working with Workbench HD in the future should take note of the last OS supported by Line 6 for those products (when that time inevitably comes some years from now) and keep a machine of that vintage on hand. By that time I expect Line 6 will have released the next generation of the Variax/Workbench products whatever/whenever they may be. This applies to any Windows (and Mac) based programs that have been around for decades, in all industries. It's certainly not unique to Workbench or to Line 6. On my shelf right now I see boxes and CDs of Microsoft Project 2002 and Microsoft Small Business 2003. Neither of those products work on my Win10 system. Time to throw them out. Microsoft has long since stopped supporting those dinosaurs as new versions of Windows were released. The good news is that your Variax 300 continues to work, and so would Workbench if you had an old XP system. -
Variax Alternate Tunings - Work with ALL Variax models?
silverhead replied to cchimi's topic in Helix
Alternate turnings in a Variax 300 do not work with Helix nor with any previous guitar multi-FX processor like the POD HD series. The Variax 300 supports alternate tunings within the specific Variax models using Workbench. This is a limitation of the Variax 300, not Helix. In fact, Helix does not support any sort of interaction with older Variax models like the 300. In some cases the 300 will respond to model selections in a Helix preset but it is not a supported feature and may not work reliably or in all cases. Since your 300 seems to respond to model selectoins within a Helix preset you could use Workbench to define the desired alternate tuning within a Variax model and then select that model in the Helix preset.
