How does Vx Standard connect to Studio One 3 Pro
silverhead replied to BobbyD79903's topic in Variax Standard
He finally mentions the key bit of information at 16:15. He is using a POD HD500, a Line 6 product that communicates with the Variax using the proprietary VDI (Variax Digital Interface) protocol . The HD500 is also an audio interface that connects via USB to the computer running Pro Tools. Around 16:30 he begins to provide details about the role of the HD500 as the audio interface. The connection and signal chain is Variax VDI Output -> HD500 VDI Input -> HD500 USB output -> computer USB input -> Pro Tools. All his talk about avoiding the A/D and D/A conversions is true, but you still need a Line 6 audio interface with the required VDI support. The POD HD500 is one example of the required interface. With any other (non-Line 6 VDI-equipped) audio interface you need to use the Variax 1/4" output, with the associated D/A and A/D conversion before you get the signal to Pro Tools. -
How does Vx Standard connect to Studio One 3 Pro

ProTools is a software package. What hardware was the Variax connected to, and what Variax output was used? If you can find that video can you post a link? -
No input level adjustment on the X3, just overall Master output level. You adjust input level by adjusting output level on the source device.

Output levels changing? Trim tracking issue?

You may well be right. Could be something else entirely. -
L3t and L3s as a small PA?
silverhead replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Don't know for sure but I think your reasoning is sound (no pun intended!). Should work that way I think. You might have to have a 2-way L6 Link connection. I seem to recall that the side panel and rear panel inputs on an L3t don't get passed over L6 Link unless there's a 2-way connection to another Stagesource speaker. -
What you describe is normal. The playback from the computer passes through the POD to its analog outputs but is not available as an input to the POD's signal processing and hence is not available over the USB connection as an input to your DAW. With the POD selected as your DAW's soundcard you can only record what the POD produces, not what's passing through. Similarly, when you select your computer's soundcard as the DAW's recording input you can record what it is producing, but not the POD. You can't record both simultaneously.

Output levels changing? Trim tracking issue?
silverhead replied to CGM777's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
That's my understanding too but if the offending frequencies are the dominant frequencies in the vocals then I can imagine that cutting those frequencies might sound like the level is being cut. I'm not at all sure about this but just trying to understand and interpret what might be happening. -
Output levels changing? Trim tracking issue?
silverhead replied to CGM777's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
In step 1 where you use auto-trim, are the vocalists singing together at their loudest? If you set the trim for their speaking levels or low volume parts then your trim setting will be too high. This could result in the symptoms you describe as soon as the band starts and everyone is singing louder. The feedback suppression could be kicking in on the mics, reducing the vocal levels in the mix to eliminate feedback, and then of course when you attempt to raise the levels manually feedback occurs. Maybe try lowering your vocal trim levels and don't use auto-trim. During the first song adjust the vocal trim levels and channel output levels. See if that works better. If you're still having issues I would open a support ticket. Perhaps Line 6 can help with some diagnostics to see if there is a hardware problem. -
How does Vx Standard connect to Studio One 3 Pro
silverhead replied to BobbyD79903's topic in Variax Standard
The RJ-45 cable from the Variax carries digital information using a proprietary Line 6 protocol. It only communicates with Lin6 devices and software programs. You need to use the 1/4" analog output to connect to any other devices or programs. In your case you would connect using the 1/4" to a standard audio interface to record to your DAW. -
The on-board pedal and its operations are well explained in the manual in sections 3.6 and 7.13. You seem to have an aversion to reading it (did you read the full thread that your very first question here triggered?). http://line6.com/support/topic/18870-line-6-pod-hd500x-presets/ Seriously, you need to at least try to answer your own questions - you could have had your answer hours ago. Here's the link to the manual: http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c6fb051e03e8ab63dc/application/pdf/POD%20HD500X%20Advanced%20Guide%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20A%20).pdf The only undocumented thing that sometimes causes problems is that activating the toe switch can require a lot of pressure until it gets worked in. You'll need to be standing and pressing HARD with the ball of your foot on the tip of the pedal. If you're still having problems after reading please make another post in the POD HD section of this forum, not here in the Lounge.

FRFR Discussion (specifically, L2 Stagesource)
silverhead replied to WithALoudNoise's topic in Helix
I use my L3t speakers in PA/Reference mode with the speakers mounted on stands so that they are around head-height. This removes the speaker/floor coupling for which Monitor mode compensates. Also in Monitor mode the speakers are tilted up towards your head for better listening. A speaker sitting vertically on the floor in PA / Reference mode causes two problems: the excessive low end from floor coupling as well as not being pointed at the listener's head. -
4) Yes. You need to assign them as separate inputs to the Helix paths. 5) Yes, but I think you meant to say 'inputs' rather than 'outputs' as noted in 4) 6) Correct I think, but here I'm not sure what you mean by outputs. Just curious ..... What sort of processing are you planning to do in Helix that you can't do directly in the DAW with software plugins?

... and if you haven't got the message(s) yet...... do yourself a favour and read the manuals. ;)

In the bottom right area of every post (except your own posts) you will see a green up arrow and a red down arrow. Any user can use those if they want to up/down vote the post indicating their like/dislike of the content. In your case the sum total of users here have downvoted your posts once more than upvoted. .... until now. I just gave you an uptick to reset you to zero just because you asked about it. Don't worry about it. EDIT: So now you're in positive territory!

Can't have more than 8 setlists in the device at any time. You can, however, use the Edit program to save and keep as many different setlists as you want on your computer. You can reload/replace any of the 8 on the device anytime.

If you are getting audio from your POD going out to your computer speakers while the POD is connected it means you are not using the Line 6 ASIO driver in Audacity. You are probably using ASIO4ALL which is not a fully ASIO compliant driver and has been known to cause problems with Line6 equipment. If it works for you, that's great but it means your setup is not supported by Line 6 if you encounter any problems. The ASIO standard requires that the same device be used as both the audio input and output device. Line 6 devices are designed to work that way and are only supported when you use the fully ASIO compliant Line 6 driver. It's possible that the audio you hear from your computer speakers is generated by your laptop running another application like MP3 playback. That can get confusing and if you want to rectify it you should change your computer's audio settings (in addition to Audacity settings) to use the POD as the recording and playback device.

POD HD500X - Ableton Live 9 recording
silverhead replied to jccernareyes's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Use the POD ASIO driver as in your second screenshot. Avoid ASIO4ALL. The POD becomes your computer's soundcard. You need to connect your speakers to the POD's outputs to hear the sound. -
I think you'll be very happy with the HD500X and M13 combination. There's no possibility of doubling up your amp/cab models in a serial path and you should have plenty of DSP to do what all but the most outlandish signal chains would require. There are actually a few different ways you could set this up. The way you describe is one setup. Use the HD500X FX Send to the M13 main input(s) and the M13 main output(s) to the HD500X FX return. You can use mono or stereo for both. In this case set the HD500X FX Send to Stomp level matching the M13 input expectations. You can place your FX Loop in the HD500X Preset anywhere you like in the signal chain. This will depend on where you want the M13 FX to kick in. You can change this on a preset basis so sometimes your M13 FX can be pre amp and sometimes post amp. Another option is the 4 cable method (4CM). That makes use of both the HD500X and the M13 FX Loops and will allow you the most flexibility in assigning FX from both devices in both pre and post amp positions. In that case you would do this: Guitar -> M13 input -> M13 FX Send -> HD500X Guitar Input -> HD500X FX Send -> M13 FX Return -> M13 output -> HD500X FX Return -> HD500X output -> outboard equipment (amp/mixer/PA). You can place both the M13 and HD500X FX Loops where you like in their respective signal chains so that you can have both M13 and HD500X FX appearing both before the HD500X amp model and/or after it. You could also experiment with changing the order of the devices in the above 4CM - placing the HD500X first and then the M13 but I'm not sure that there's any real benefit to that. Yes - midi is optional and would, as you suspect, allow you to program your M13 preset/program numbers so that recalling the same preset/program number in the HD500X would send the associated midi message to the M13. Your M13 presets would be automatically selected to match your HD500X presets, up to whatever the preset/program number limit is on the M13.

You can't transfer a preset from your computer to Helix without the app. Nor can you back up your presets. I am running the app on Win 10. Are you sure you have the latest version of the app?

In the Setup Menu page 1 set FS Mode to ABCD. It sounds like you currently have it set to FS5-8. When set to ABCD the footswitches A through D will select the corresponding preset in the current bank rather than switch designated FX on/off. You will first have to remap any FS assignments in the 5-8 range. You cannot map the A-D footswitches to select presets outside the current bank.

It's not a question of your capabilities. It's a question of intellectual property. I don't think Line 6 is alone in not releasing proprietary information to individuals merely on request. Service centers are authorized to have this information and Line 6 IP is protected by the covering agreement, which you would at some point encounter if you were to take them up on their offer to apply and qualify to become a service center.

Yes. Use Helix app and drag/drop the preset into one of the User setlists, replacing an empty factory preset.

Put a coin beneath it with the coin edges extending past the button edge. You will never find a coin worth more than the cost of implementing a software lock feature.
