Don't use your old X3 power adapter; the Pod HD uses DC not AC. You could cause damage to the Pod HD. Otherwise, it seems you have a potential diagnosis. Continue to test that and let us know if the problem persists without using the NosePedal.

I know what you're trying to do, and I appreciate your disdain. But the HD Pro is designed to use an external foot controller rather than just an expression pedal. It gives the user full control over all functions of the HD Pro: recalling patches, operating the looper, turning FX on/off, .... almost anything you can do on the HD Pro itself. That simply can't be done with a standard 1/4" jack/connection. I agree that it would be nice if the HD Pro had a connection for a simple external expression pedal. But it doesn't. And the idea of an adapter is just not feasible because the features and capabilities of the FBV connection are way beyond a simple expression pedal. An expression pedal like the FV-500 is not nearly the same animal as the FBV foot controller. The reason the FBV is proprietary is that it controls the full functionality of the HD Pro; it can't be an industry standard until/unless Line 6 controls the majority of market share in this space and the rest of the industry accepts its technology as the industry standard. I think Bill Gates was able to do that with DOS, at least until that upstart Apple came along............ ;)

If you can't hear anything wrong it's possible that the light itself is simply malfunctioning. I'm no audio engineer, but I think clipping may be evident in the recorded wave pattern of the audio. Try recording a clip and doing some research on whether/how clipping appears in a wave pattern. (Or maybe someone else can chime in here?)
-
As you note, there is no 1/4" jack for an expression pedal on the HD Pro. I don't think the issue is TS vs. TRS. I think you need to use a compatible Line 6 pedal with the RJ-45 FBV connection; I'm not aware of any way you can use your FV-500.

Here's what the manual has to say about it. Try this. Clip Light – this lights when clipping is detected, which generally means unpleasantly distorted, bad sound. Try reducing the output level of the device that’s feeding your POD X3, or reducing the Tone Volume for Tone 1 or Tone 2, or the volume of Tone 1 + Tone 2 that can be adjusted from the right knob below the Home Page.

Correct - no difference in the electronics and modelling (except for the internal mounting/positioning of the components). Alternate tunings ARE available using Variax Workbench (not the new Workbench HD product). However, the tunings are embedded in the stored model rather than available separately to be used with all stored models.

Try holding down the right nav key when powering up. If that doesn't work, try holding down the left nav key. If a test screen displays, select REFLASH and run Line 6 Monkey to reinstall firmware.

The flexibility is limited as described in the manual. There's a section that states where the various FX are placed relative to each other in their PRE/POST positions. You can't modify these fixed placements.

Have you tried a different VDI/cat5 cable? Not likely the problem, but should be looked into.

Are you connected via USB to your computer, perhaps running HD500 Edit?

Line 6 Should Offer Low Cost/free Upgrade From Hd To Hd-x
silverhead replied to DeAllen's topic in POD HD
This discussion reminds me of a philosophy professor I once had. I was taking his Logic course. He was a bit of a drinker and had sometimes simply not shown up for the early 8:30 Friday morning class, which really annoyed those of us who had hauled our little a$$e$ out of bed. So one Wednesday I asked him: "Will there or will there not be a class on Friday?" He answered "Yes." So I showed up - and he didn't. Remember - the course was logic. Only later did I realize that he had answered truthfully, though I misinterpreted his response and fully expected a class. -
Pod Hd300 Amp Knob Settings In The Display Panel?
silverhead replied to bluesdelux's topic in POD HD
Try holding down the ENTER (or is it EDIT?) button when the amp is selected in the signal flow display. -
Have you tried powering up while holding down the left nav key?

Display issues are sometimes caused by a power supply problem. If possible and at a reasonable price you might want to try a new PSU before repairing or selling it. https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0041

The outputs can be separated by using the VDI output with a compatible Pod HD device (HD Pro/x, HD500/x). These devices can recognize both inputs separately and simultaneously as Inputs for dual-path DSP. The outputs cannot be processed separately and simultaneously using the 1/4" JTV jack, nor when using the VDI connection with earlier VDI-enabled Pod processors (Pod xt Live/Pro and Pod X3 Live/Pro).

Line 6 Should Offer Low Cost/free Upgrade From Hd To Hd-x
silverhead replied to DeAllen's topic in POD HD
I think there are three separate issues being discussed here: 1) What sort of 'upgrades' one should expect to receive during a product's lifecycle, and whether they should be free or not. The OP feels that Line 6 should provide a hardware upgrade to turn the HD500 into an HD500x, either free or low cost. The extreme end of that spectrum of opinion is well expressed by stumblinman, who (jokingly, I'm sure) suggests that Variax 700 owners, even ex-owners - should receive a free or low cost 'upgrade' to a JTV. No matter where you are on that spectrum, it is what it is: line 6 is not offering that upgrade nor are they going to. Feel free to vent. 2) The fact that every computer has capacity limitations. For guitar processors it is largely DSP capacity. Every such device, from the Pocket Pod to the AXE FXII, has these limitations. The issue is whether the devices are designed to prevent these limitations from ever being reached (the HD300/400, AXE FXII, and all other such devices that I have heard of) or are designed to put the user in charge, allowing the user to fully utilize all available DSP in every preset, meaning the DSP-nanny has to intervene when necessary. Line 6, with the Pod dual-path processors, broke new ground (I think) in being the first to design things this way. Like it or not, that's the design. And those who don't like it have an option - you can still get the Pod HD modeling and a guarantee of not reaching the DSP limitations by buying the HD300/400. 3) The fact that Line 6, like virtually all manufacturers in any product sector, can be accused of overstating things in their marketing ads. For instance, in the case of the Pod HD DSP limitations it seems to boil down to personal feelings and opinions about how to interpret the two words 'up to' relating to the number of FX that can be used in a preset. My opinions? 1) Free firmware upgrades are now so common with L6 products that it is reasonable to expect them early in a product's lifecycle. But still they are a bonus, and one should never buy a product that one is dissatisfied with, expecting a future firmware upgrade to make them happy. Hardware upgrades? Only in cases where the initial product hardware is clearly defective (e.g. X3 USB audio dropout problem). Neither the incremental DSP increase nor the sturdier footswitches in the HD500x fall into this category (again - my opinion). 2) I love the fact that Line 6 allows me to make use of all available DSP, and no longer forces me to buy products that make those decisions for me (like all previous PODs and the FX1, FX2, and FX3 design of the HD300/400). I can actually reach the limits - that's great, because it allows me to make my own compromises on a pre-preset basis. I can't do that with the AXE FXII. Yes, I know it has more DSP capacity than the Pod HD - that's part of its price tag - but I can never use it all in any preset. The design prevents me. 3) Marketing is marketing. Expect the hype, in all products everywhere. Expect that things are presented using words such as 'up to' that, while strictly accurate, could be interpreted as meaning something else that exceeds reality. Line 6 is no worse than anyone else in this regard. -
Have you tried other Reverb FX?

I suspect the Octo Reverb mix setting of 100% may be causing the 'delay'. Try experimenting with lower Mix settings, which will permit at least some of the non-reverb-processed signal to be heard.

I didn't do that. I didn't call anyone a complainer; that was your word (I hope you won't referring to yourself). I acknowledged that some people have very real problems with their Line 6 equipment, and that's usually why they are here. I did not tell him to buy a JTV. I told him that he shouldn't extrapolate from this audience to the general population of JTV owners, and assume he would have problems. In fact I didn't give him any buy/don't buy JTV advice. You are doing that. I think he should make his own decision based on the information he has/gets. I am simply advising him on how to interpret/weigh the information and advice he is getting here, including yours and mine.
