  1. Are you connected via USB to your computer, perhaps running HD500 Edit?
  2. This discussion reminds me of a philosophy professor I once had. I was taking his Logic course. He was a bit of a drinker and had sometimes simply not shown up for the early 8:30 Friday morning class, which really annoyed those of us who had hauled our little a$$e$ out of bed. So one Wednesday I asked him: "Will there or will there not be a class on Friday?" He answered "Yes." So I showed up - and he didn't. Remember - the course was logic. Only later did I realize that he had answered truthfully, though I misinterpreted his response and fully expected a class.
  3. Try holding down the ENTER (or is it EDIT?) button when the amp is selected in the signal flow display.
  4. Have you tried powering up while holding down the left nav key?
  5. Display issues are sometimes caused by a power supply problem. If possible and at a reasonable price you might want to try a new PSU before repairing or selling it. https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0041
  6. The outputs can be separated by using the VDI output with a compatible Pod HD device (HD Pro/x, HD500/x). These devices can recognize both inputs separately and simultaneously as Inputs for dual-path DSP. The outputs cannot be processed separately and simultaneously using the 1/4" JTV jack, nor when using the VDI connection with earlier VDI-enabled Pod processors (Pod xt Live/Pro and Pod X3 Live/Pro).
  7. I think there are three separate issues being discussed here: 1) What sort of 'upgrades' one should expect to receive during a product's lifecycle, and whether they should be free or not. The OP feels that Line 6 should provide a hardware upgrade to turn the HD500 into an HD500x, either free or low cost. The extreme end of that spectrum of opinion is well expressed by stumblinman, who (jokingly, I'm sure) suggests that Variax 700 owners, even ex-owners - should receive a free or low cost 'upgrade' to a JTV. No matter where you are on that spectrum, it is what it is: line 6 is not offering that upgrade nor are they going to. Feel free to vent. 2) The fact that every computer has capacity limitations. For guitar processors it is largely DSP capacity. Every such device, from the Pocket Pod to the AXE FXII, has these limitations. The issue is whether the devices are designed to prevent these limitations from ever being reached (the HD300/400, AXE FXII, and all other such devices that I have heard of) or are designed to put the user in charge, allowing the user to fully utilize all available DSP in every preset, meaning the DSP-nanny has to intervene when necessary. Line 6, with the Pod dual-path processors, broke new ground (I think) in being the first to design things this way. Like it or not, that's the design. And those who don't like it have an option - you can still get the Pod HD modeling and a guarantee of not reaching the DSP limitations by buying the HD300/400. 3) The fact that Line 6, like virtually all manufacturers in any product sector, can be accused of overstating things in their marketing ads. For instance, in the case of the Pod HD DSP limitations it seems to boil down to personal feelings and opinions about how to interpret the two words 'up to' relating to the number of FX that can be used in a preset. My opinions? 1) Free firmware upgrades are now so common with L6 products that it is reasonable to expect them early in a product's lifecycle. But still they are a bonus, and one should never buy a product that one is dissatisfied with, expecting a future firmware upgrade to make them happy. Hardware upgrades? Only in cases where the initial product hardware is clearly defective (e.g. X3 USB audio dropout problem). Neither the incremental DSP increase nor the sturdier footswitches in the HD500x fall into this category (again - my opinion). 2) I love the fact that Line 6 allows me to make use of all available DSP, and no longer forces me to buy products that make those decisions for me (like all previous PODs and the FX1, FX2, and FX3 design of the HD300/400). I can actually reach the limits - that's great, because it allows me to make my own compromises on a pre-preset basis. I can't do that with the AXE FXII. Yes, I know it has more DSP capacity than the Pod HD - that's part of its price tag - but I can never use it all in any preset. The design prevents me. 3) Marketing is marketing. Expect the hype, in all products everywhere. Expect that things are presented using words such as 'up to' that, while strictly accurate, could be interpreted as meaning something else that exceeds reality. Line 6 is no worse than anyone else in this regard.
  8. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you open a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 on this.
  9. Have you followed Monkey's advice re: temporarily disabling some other software items on your computer?
  10. I suspect the Octo Reverb mix setting of 100% may be causing the 'delay'. Try experimenting with lower Mix settings, which will permit at least some of the non-reverb-processed signal to be heard.
  11. I didn't do that. I didn't call anyone a complainer; that was your word (I hope you won't referring to yourself). I acknowledged that some people have very real problems with their Line 6 equipment, and that's usually why they are here. I did not tell him to buy a JTV. I told him that he shouldn't extrapolate from this audience to the general population of JTV owners, and assume he would have problems. In fact I didn't give him any buy/don't buy JTV advice. You are doing that. I think he should make his own decision based on the information he has/gets. I am simply advising him on how to interpret/weigh the information and advice he is getting here, including yours and mine.
  12. I don't know. I suspect it's a special rather than regular switch/potentiometer. Again, I think you should open a support ticket so that you can ask this question to Line 6 directly.
  13. What type of Internet connection are you using? Satellite connections are known to be problematic.
  14. I would have suggested that you remove the knob and push down on the shaft as a test. Since you've already done this with no success, and have already reinstalled the firmware, I think there must be a hardware problem with whatever trigger is under the shaft. I would open a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 to resolve this. http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html
  15. I find the mag pups on my JTV-59 to be excellent. To me they sound very much like what you would expect from a standard Les Paul.
  16. I think something went wrong in your attempt to post. Can you try again, with some more information expanding on your title?
  17. It certainly sounds like a hardware failure at the outputs. Was it new when you purchased it? If so it should still be under warranty. I would open a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 tech support on this. http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html
  18. The bottom row of footswitches (5-8) can be used to select presets A-D in the current bank of presets. The behaviour of FS5 through FS8 is determined by the FS Mode setting on page 1 of the Setup menus. When set to ABCD these footswitches will switch presets; when set to FS5-8 they will turn FX5 through FX8 on/off. This means you cannot use FS1 to recall any preset. Using your example above, you would set your FS Mode to ABCD, then navigate to FX HEAVY Bank 8. Footswitches A through D will instantly select the associated presets in Bank 8. Use the C footswitch to select the Wham Me preset.
  19. Remember, oleus, that this is a support forum. Most people are here because they are looking for support to help with some problem or other. It should be no surprise that you hear mostly from people who have problems here. The many, many more Variax owners who are very satisfied and do not have problems generally don't come here. I wouldn't generalize or extrapolate much based on what you hear here. Chances are very high that any Variax you purchase will be problem free. Of course, when purchasing used equipment, caveat emptor. You need to do your due diligence on the specific equipment you are looking to purchase in order to avoid ending up with a problematic guitar that someone just wants to dump.
  20. I agree. I had it done by a professional guitar tech who also did a complete setup after the installation, which I also recommend.
  21. If it's the same problem, then you should follow the instructions in this thread. The last resort is to take it in for servicing.
  22. My repair was done at an authorized Line 6 service center. Have you opened a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 to get this fixed? http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html
