just tried a kwb and compulsive drive combo - something to use with the guitar volume rolled back- sweeter than the fuzzface and not as noisy but a somewhat similar cleaned up fuzz sound 😉ðŸ‘

i'm sure he could have plugged into anything and sounded sweet

thanks.. informative and interesting videos 😉ðŸ‘ðŸ‘

has anyone tried these included ir's with other amps? my understanding is that they aren't actually cabinet IR's but Glenn has made some sort of tone shaping IR .? correct me if i'm wrong.. i'm just interested to see if you can get a bit of mileage from them, using them outside the preset they are meant for..

How to record two acoustics and a vocal dry / monitor / set levels?
shanecgriffo replied to bc05's topic in Helix
btw-you do need insert a return block onto your signal path, in case you didn't do that .. for the guitar going into the return -
How to record two acoustics and a vocal dry / monitor / set levels?
shanecgriffo replied to bc05's topic in Helix
i'm just beginning to use helix for recording, one thing i did find was that there is a mic input level control in the general settings that can be raised. 👠-
mic recording level.. way too low.. any advice?

oops- global settings- there is a mic gain setting.. didn't see that one â˜ºï¸ -
mic recording level.. way too low.. any advice?

(i have mic input selected and phantom power on) -
i've used the guitar/vocal template to record some acoustic guitar to my daw (ableton live) and i'm finding my mic volume recording way too low- (rode nt-3 condensor) even with levels on the helix cranked to max (output levels and mic preamp fx block) i'm barely getting a signal at -36 db on my track. It's gotta be better than that! what am i missing? thanks for any help.. i'm recording a baritone acoustic on the mic btw- which is a darn loud guitar.

i had a problem too but it is the touch capacitor function on one of the stomp selector buttons wasn't working when my helix arrived. it still works as a switch but just wont select the fx pedal that is assigned to it when i touch it. i elected to not return it.. i think it is something i can live with but dont think i'd like to live without the rest of the helix for the time it might take to get fixed/replaced here in australia. i think if that whole switch hadn't been functioning i would have returned it.

why not just use 2 separate paths.. one with amp model- to go to foh , the other with whatever you want to go to the fender onstage amp.?
-
haha, i think he's just a compulsive gear nut trying to make excuses 😆

i have a 500 model and with an older firmware version i had trouble with the helix freezing when it was plugged in. i haven't tested it since tho- i just go in via normal guitar input if i use the variax

Is it normal first up to keep trying to design overly complex presets??
shanecgriffo replied to WickedFinger's topic in Helix
most of my first presets were just- overdrive /amp and reverb . very simple .. i like to just hear the amp but my tastes are pretty simple -
winding down the guitar volume knob (on your guitar) can clean up the fuzz's quite well .. they are a little noisy still tho

i'm using helix with Ableton live.. when i go to change the buffer rate for the helix asio driver in ableton i'm finding that it wont change (although i can actually change the slider) .. the only way i can get the new buffer rate is to load a different asio driver (asio4all in this case) and then re-load the helix asio driver which will then set the buffer to the new setting.. has anyone else had this issue? just wondering if it is localised to ableton or happens in other DAW's as well. apart from that , Helix is working well as a recording device :)

Does anyone else find the Reverbs in Helix really disappointing?
shanecgriffo replied to tagwap's topic in Helix
hi, it's in inches not feet.. the mic distance -
sounds pretty cool actually.. like something recorded mid last century

i tried a few acoustic ir's with my variax..i found it sounded better without them. maybe on a normal acoustic they will be helpful... let us know if you find some that offer an improvement tho ..
-
not sure if it's helpful but 3sigma have an IR set of a suhr cab which sounds very nice on a lot of the onboard amps
-
if you had ir's on the presets and haven't reloaded them that will be the cause
-
that's a great video with some good tips!

there's empty footswitches they could use.. it shouldn't need hardware. actually i'd like to be able to map a loop record button to the main pedals layout.. so you can record a loop and change effects /snapshots in the one place

i just thought i'd try this model out.. loaded the amp and an IR cab from my collection (one of the free ownhammer mesa boogie ones sounded best) and nothing else! It's 70's crunchy rock n'roll tone heaven with just the amp and cab!
