do glenn's boutique patches use onboard amp models as part of the sound production or is it purely amp sounds from the included ir's ?

the low band 80hz only goes to -6 db on mine, is that correct? thanks
-
yes! the compulsive drive works well in front of it. nice gritty drive with the gain turned down
-
well, i probably did try it before but i was going thru the amps last night to see if any grabbed me that i hadn't really used much and the mail order twin really grabbed my ear, it has it's own thing going on for sure and i can see why some well known players covet the sound of this. nice for some raw old time rocking sort of sounds. does anyone else dig this particular model?
-
there have been a few amps released in updates so far.. but only a small amount.. don't expect huge numbers.. there is another update due soon but no idea of its content sorry
-
i think you need to run the top volume at a healthy level- more than 9 oclock in my experience. i run out at 12 at least. scott from helix channel recommends 2 or 3 from memory

it's funny that the tracking is so ordinary and only monophonic on this unit, considering that i've had an app on my phone since iphone 4s that does a great job of converting my guitar 1/4" input to midi (it's called 'midi guitar') it's polyphonic and does a great job

i recorded a song once and somehow got a tone that is very much like a horn section playing sort of stab chords.. i really wish i remember how i got it .. it''s sort of a bit distorty and growly, like some 70's rolling stones thing. I think it may have been a lucky combo of the tone and chord voicing
-
i'd recommend something with a little breakup and sustain but not too distorted, so any of the classic blues combo style amps i guess.. mainly it is probably down to note choice and phrasing if you want to emulate sax solos
-
It would be great if the onboard compressors had gain reduction meters. It would make using them a lot easier i think
-
and i guess combine different pitches for a more harmonically rich feedback emulation! must try it
-
2 extra patch leads should fix the problem ?
-
there is a trick with the volume/controller pedal too i used to do on my pod xtlive that has a feedback type sound and is usable in some instances.. i cant remember the exact procedure but what you want to do is to load a pitch effect with an octave higer setting and then control the dry/wet mix with the control pedal.. hit a 'dry' note then slowly push the pedal down to take the mix blend to full wet- 1 octave higher .. it'll sound quite like feedback (remember-you aren't changing the pitch with the pedal, just the blend from dry to wet)

nice post!

mind you, if there was one built into the helix.... ;) i think it might be possible.. even if there were some super chip munching fx modules like this that used a whole processor that you could run in the helix it would be good i think.. there are 2 processors and i would happily use up one on super harmony effects or something similar
-
you just cant beat using something like a voicelive i think, with the guitar input chord recognition and the harmony control pads right in front of you ( i have the voicelive touch that sits on your mic stand) it's way too easy
-
hmm that did sound ok, i wonder if it was the helix on the harmonies. .. i never tried helix for vocal harmonies as i have tc helicon voicelive but it might be worth a try.. i'll post back if i get a chance

i have a zoom acoustic preamp (zoom A3) that has some acoustic modelling on it.. i'd tried some free impulses in helix but preferred just using the zoom with the mix about 50% .. i have a pretty good top of the line maton guitar that is the same model tommy emanuel played about the time mine was made (10 or so years ago) so it sounds pretty good with minimal fuss.. i have a few other lesser guitars tho that may be sweetened by the sigma ir's, so may have to spring for one pack at least to try them.. -

so are people finding these better than available free ones that have been posted around here in the past? -
Electric Guitar into Helix - Compression - Advice - Training?

hey! i like your idea of putting the looper at the start to do some tweaking.. hadn't thought of that. My take with compressors is -less is more. keep it subtle, unless you want the country chicken picking thing, then go to town ;) -
i'm sure there are more amps/effects coming but i cant imagine it will ever rival axe-fx in numbers alone
-
i'm not sure it will be the sound you're after but worh a try -using the kwb pedal set with germanium options.. it's a little different flavour than the other dedicated fuzz's . i use it with a compulsive drive after it. on guitar tho.. also try adjusting your volume knob on the bass with any of the pedals , it may or may not help get closer to the sound you want.
