    PODxt Upgrade

Not everyone but many members over here (in this forum dedicated to the POD HD series) switched from the XT or X3 to the HD. Therefore I guess that the answer to your question should be quite obvious or the expected one, (probably also the one which you would like to hear in this moment as an encouragement to take the plunge), otherwise we would all be fools who like to throw money in the trash. I am one of those who several years ago switched from a XTL to the HD500, and I consider the HD a better modeler and multi-fx than the XTL, the main reasons for me are: improved dynamics/touch-volume sensitivity, 2 parallel chains, great flexibility. However the HD is not a so easy device for a new owner, I wouldn't call it as a "plug and play" modeler, there is a learning curve necessary to get the best results, but the results pay off for the efforts, and once the experience has matured everything becomes very simple and immediate. Trying this modeler live before deciding to buy would be a good idea. Spending around 200 bucks I guess that currently there are not many other used hardware units worth considering. If going via software sim could be also a good solution for you, I would suggest Scuffham S-Gear, it doesn't cost too much but its amp models are top class. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  2. You're welcome.. I don't think that a firmware update that went wrong can damage something physically, but as just said, the procedure can go wrong even without notifications, in which case the device can exhibit strange behavior. I would say that if one tries to reinstall the firmware up to 3 times without ever solving the problem, one can conclude that the problem is at the hardware level. I do not know how much professional hardware repairs of this type can cost in your country, but here in Italy I would say no less than 150 euros, therefore given the average value in the used market of the device, I do not know how much it would be worth doing. However, if you don't absolutely need also a well working Guitar In input, using the AUX input you can still get the same good results. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  3. That's the final goal for sure: to be happy with your final sound!.. all that matters! Enjoy your POD and good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  4. The stereo channel is made to receive a dual L&R signal and keep the 2 sides separate, usually a stereo channel is provided with 1 single stereo input (so you use just 1 stereo ending cable, to be precise in this case a 2-mono-in-1-stereo cable), and the cable used to connect to it should bring both L & R sides of the signal. (Connecting a single XLR (which carries only one side of the dual signal) from the POD to a stereo channel is unnecessary or the waste of a stereo channel for no reason). So the only advantage of a stereo channel is that you use just 1 channel to serve 2 separate signals (L & R). If there are not stereo channels available or you simply don't want to use it (very common case) but you want your signal in stereo through the PA, the other very common way is to use 2 mono channels, one panned to the left and the other to the right, very simple and effective. But very often if you don't mind being mono but still want a good sound, only one jack (not XLR) from the POD to a mono channel panned center in the mixer is all you need. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  5. I'm sorry to repeat myself but this is the last time, I swear. Connecting just 1 (mono) side (L or R) of a dual mono/stereo signal to a mixer stereo channel doesn't make sense for me, you can do it, but it is simply useless. 1 stereo channel expects 2 sides L & R signal, and it keeps always both sides separated, its balance control serves only to decide how much loud should be each side relative to the other one, stop. I have already explained in detail in my previous post how I make the connections and I have always obtained excellent results. Yes, I use also high gain amp models and I like the results. Honestly I will not try your method since mine (and countless other people) already works great, and it is also 100% logical. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  6. I use the HD500 several years now and never had the problem you described in this thread. I'm glad you found the solution to your problem, but saying that the Left and Right outputs of the POD are out of phase to each other is IMO (unintentional) misinformation. If as I did many times I connect the POD Left output to a mono channel of the PA mixer panned Left and the Right output to another mono channel panned Right, I get exactly the sound (stereo) I expect to hear, and the same thing happens if I decide to go mono and I connect only 1 jack output to 1 mono channel of the PA mixer panned center. You said that you need 2 stereo channels (?!?) to get the POD sound as it should be... to be honest I disagree with this method, but if this solution worked for you with your equipment that's perfectly ok, but it is certainly not a rule that everyone should follow in order to get good results. ------------------------ Just a little theory doesn't hurt.. normally if you have a stereo signal there are two ways to connect it properly to a mixer equipped both with stereo and mono channels: - If you choose the stereo channel way (less usual I would say) you need to have a 2-mono-into-1-stereo cable that connects the 2 mono outputs of the POD to 1 single stereo channel of the mixer, and its "balance" (not "pan" in this case) control set in the center would replicate in the PA exactly what comes out from the POD. - The other way (if there are enough free channels left) is to connect each of the 2 outputs of the POD to its own mono channel, panned to the same side of origin (left to left and right to right). If you want to use instead 1 single but complete/full mono signal (probably the most common connection method), simply connect 1 single jack output (do not do it with 1 XLR only) of the POD to a mono channel of the mixer panned in the center to have the same power on both PA speakers. (Only the jack outputs of the POD have the peculiarity of automatically summing/mixing L and R when only 1 of them is connected). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  7. Maybe I found a workaround for you (see at the end of this post). First I discovered that there are other customers that have the same problem, a few examples: https://line6.com/support/topic/45395-custom-tone-access-when-buying-2nd-hand/ https://line6.com/support/topic/32428-cant-register-my-helix-and-because-of-that-i-cant-download-any-patches/ https://line6.com/support/topic/29072-customtone-with-trial/ In regard to the workaround which I hope will work for you too, here follows the copy of an interesting post I found: << Clicking on the download button from the search results list prompts the product registration (and will not start the download). Clicking on the tone name, which links to its own separate page and clicking download works though. Looks like a bug on line6 side to me, but at least there's a workaround for it. >> _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  8. Doesn't your looper software have its own volume level controls? If yes, use them to lower the playback volume level.. If the guitar signal needs to be louder on recording you should use the level controls available in the chain, eg the mixer block faders and/or the amp model output level. The master volume physical knob doesn't affect in any way the recording level through USB, it's only an input/output global monitoring level. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  9. Ok.. but did you also login your account from within the license manager window? If yes, then there is some anomaly in the app behavior.. or maybe recently Line6 changed its license use rules.. well, in any case the model pack will not disturb your use of the unit in any way, and if some day you want to re-sell it you can ask a bit more for it compared to the average price for the same unit without any model pack. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  10. if you had read my reply and understood what I wrote, you should already know the answer to your question. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  11. I have a strong suspicion that the op wrongly used the word "download" instead of "upload", and I'm not sure, but to be able to upload it could be necessary to have the device registered in the account you are currently using. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  12. Currently it seems that there are 687,735 registered accounts in the Line6 community.. If you remember your previous nickname try to see if your old account still exists and you can find it between the others here: Search the Community Members If you find it, in the sign in window click on the "forgot you password" link to recover/regenerate it, then you should quickly and automatically receive an email at the address you used when you created your old account with a link to start the password recovery procedure. or more directly: https://line6.com/account/forgot.html _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  13. If the display shows that you have the metal pack it means that the related add-on amp models are still available to be used when you build/edit patches, which thing makes your unit more appealing for future buyers in case you decide to resell it at some point. Only the one who bought the model pack license can de-authorize your unit with the dedicated command, and he should have the unit close to him and connected by USB when he does the procedure, unless he gives to you his Line6 account ID and password to let you do the procedure by yourself. However due to the Line6 protection against piracy, if you run the license manager being logged in with your Line6 account and with the device connected by USB, the model pack in your device should be automatically de-authorized (and it should disappear) since the license manager can see (once you're logged in) that you are not the owner of the license. If you will never login into the license manager app, the model pack will stay into your unit forever. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  14. Which monitor do you have? Are there mic/line switches? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  15. Do what pianoguyy said, but connect instead the POD (directly) to your monitor. Then report back what happens. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  16. Infortunately not... The only way to flash the unit is via USB.. If your POD USB port and USB cable are fine, maybe that the driver hasn't be installed properly. I see often in this forum posts by users who have driver/unit recognition problems with Win10 or macOS Mojave. Do a search and maybe you'll find some useful advices in that regard. Personally I'm still running most of my music programs on Win XP, since I don't like all Microsoft OSes from Win 8 onwards. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  17. Check if the POD USB port is fine (check also your USB cable), if it is broken there is no way to do the procedure described previously. (I and several other POD users had to replace the USB port at some point, unfortunately it breaks easily) But you could try to do only the Global Reset (power on the unit while holding the left nav key), who knows maybe it is able to unblock your unit. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  18. Given fo granted that you have already installed the Line6 driver (necessary to make the POD and computer communicate to each other) and the Monkey app in your computer, do the following: - power on the unit while holding the down nav key - the UPDATE FLASH writing will appear on the POD screen - connect the unit to your computer through USB - the unit should be recognized by the operating system, otherwise it is not possible to continue and finish the procedure - run the Monkey app, select FLASH MEMORY and press REINSTALL LATEST when the firmware reinstalling is done, do a Global reset (power on the unit while holding the left nav key), and finally do a pedal calibration _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  19. If your unit is connected to the computer, open the Line6 audio driver and make sure the Hardware Monitor Level is full up. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  20. It's not your fault, there is some installation/setup/bug problem between your operating system (Win 10 I guess) and the Editor. However you can still use the OPEN command in the FILE menu, just remember to double click (in order to select it) the slot in the Editor where you want to place the patch before using the FILE/OPEN command. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  21. This could be due to the fact that the Guitar Input doesn't work as it should.. If the Guitar In impedance is set to 1 megaohm, its response should be 100% identical to the AUX input. If you already tried the reinstalling/reset/calibrate procedures, you can not do anything else via software.. I heard some people changed the capacitors in the input stage of the mainboard and solved input problems, but I can't guarantee that it would work also in your case. IIRC the last post of this type had to do with a POD HD300. EDIT: I found that post I was speaking about, here it is: https://line6.com/support/topic/33436-pod-hd-300-problem/?do=findComment&comment=314129 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  22. So that confirms the suspect I had. Even if obviously the ideal would be to have a unit 100% working fine, given that the AUX works well, if you don't need to connect other instruments at the same time, you can connect the guitar to the AUX input without losing anything in terms of quality of the passing input signal, as I said previously the Guitar input very often auto-configures itself to use the 1 megaohm impedance, exactly the same impedance of the AUX input. If you absolutely need to use the guitar input your unit needs to be serviced. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  23. If so, the problem is elsewhere... Does the headphones output work fine?..If yes, try to connect the headphones output to your monitors (the headphones output is a little hotter than the standard output). If you still get low volume, then it means that your monitors need some checking. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  24. ..the previous silverhead post should be a clear sign that the OP was in a forum other than this, before being moved here.. give a look here: https://line6.com/support/forum/20-pod-20-pod-xt-pocket-pod-floorpods/ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  25. if you managed to record and playback only the dry unprocessed signal of your guitar by having the POD connected to the computer with models active in the chain, it means that the guitar wasn't connected (as it should) to the POD guitar input but instead to the computer audio input (or other AI), and also that the POD was not set as the chosen audio interface in your recording software. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
