  1. I found also the following http://www.keithhollandguitars.com/line-6-xps-ab-direct-box.html# but it is not clear how old the announcement is and whether it is still valid _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  2. Maybe I've been lucky but after 2 seconds google search I found this: Line 6 XPS-AB Variax Cabled Power Kit However, before buying a new XPS A/B box, if I were you, I'd check the power supply Put new batteries in your 600 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  3. When you switch guitar models via Helix patches the devices communicate via the VDI cable and respective ports, that's why I suggested checking them. But anyway I suspect that also the problem above (like that of piezos) depends on the fact that your instruments are often or always in an exceptionally humid environment such as for example it could be a basement or an underground garage, etc.. I strongly advise against keeping any digital or non-digital musical instrument in an exceptionally humid environment, otherwise they are bound to age prematurely and malfunction over time. New generations of instruments would also suffer exactly the same way due to humidity, but initially they would work better only because they have not yet had time to wear out prematurely. If you really can't do it otherwise you should at least use a dehumidifier in the room where you keep and use your instruments. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  6. I have a 700 but I believe there are no substantial differences with the 600 regarding piezos and modeling. Some time ago I had a problem with the piezo of a string, one of the 3 low strings, i.e. in the area where the palm of the hand comes into contact with the bridge in particular for palm muting, with consequent transfer of sweat and fragments of skin to the underlying elements. Following the advice of a friend from this forum, I gently extracted the piezo from its housing (IIRC I used adhesive tape to grab it), and I cleaned with isopropyl alcohol both the piezo and housing elements which must necessarily create a perfect electrical contact between them, which with accumulation of dirt over time is lost. Moreover, before putting the piezo back into its housing, I turned it 180 degrees, to offer a new side of it to the string. Since then it has always worked perfectly. I have not replaced any piezos to date, and have been using the guitar every day for years. maybe the model selector is dirty or worn and if so a light sprinkle of de-oxid or a drop of isopropyl alcohol along the pot shaft could help.. or maybe at some point the knob of the models was removed and then reinserted back not exactly as before .. even though the knob stops at predefined points when it moves, the potentiometer (shaft) below can move in a linear way and each model has a small range area (a few degrees) of it for its selection, so if the above knob (moving in steps) is not positioned in such a way that its stop points correspond to the center of that linear range of the pot for each model, and maybe the stop points are too close to the border between one model area and another, the selection does not work as it should. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  7. Actually what's called input 1 in the DAW corresponds to the LEFT side of the dual mono/stereo output signal of the POD, and what's called input 2 in the DAW corresponds to the RIGHT side of the above signal. To keep the 2 sides of the POD dual mono/stereo output signal separate and independent (ie not mixed together) no mono blocks (mono FX or amp) in the chain should be placed before the split point and after the mixer block (because they would create 2 copies of the same processed signal on both sides L and R), and in the mixer block the path A PAN control should be set to the LEFT and the path B PAN control to the RIGHT. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  8. I may have read more than the the OP meant, but his following sentence seems rather unambiguous to me: My interpretation of the above sentence (but it could be wrong) and reasoning: What is connected to the USB? ..........The POD........ Where are the PC speakers connected? .........presumably to the PC (probably built in)........ Can they play the sound from the POD / USB? .........Impossible......... it is "normal behavior"...... It is not an advanced concept, but a trivial mistake that newbies sometimes do _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  9. If the PC speakers are separate or detachable best thing to do is to connect them to the POD outputs or headphone output. If instead the PC speakers are not separate or detachable much probably they can play only the sound coming from the PC integrated audio interface, which means that in order to hear also the POD sound through them, the POD outputs (usually the USB digital signal is not selectable as an input by the integrated AI) or headphones output must be connected to the audio input of the PC and activated through the PC audio control panel/mixer. I would strongly suggest the first much effective and simpler solution, so you can record and playback everything through the USB by using the POD as audio interface (much better than any PC integrated AI) which finally converts digital back to analog, and connect any speakers/monitors/headphones directly to it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  13. First of all, writing in this forum is not useful to talk to the Line6 team, but only with other users. That said, even if you do manage to speak to someone of the Line6 team (e.g. by phone or via support ticket) I believe they will never be willing to provide you with the protocol data sheet. Perhaps for your purpose it might be a better idea to analyze the program and its source code created by a forum member a while ago to convert presets from one format to another of the various POD HD series models: Pod Hd Tone Conversion Utility and see what useful information you can get. Who knows, maybe the author himself could give you some tips. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  14. Unless device malfunctions occur firmware flashing is a one-time-only procedure, and there will be no new firmwares for the POD in the future. So why not use any PC to do just that? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  16. .. in addition to what has been already said you might be interested also in one of the Yamaha (still Line6 under the hood) THR series all in one solution modeling amps (speakers included) perfect also for low volume playing and else, very easy to use. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  17. Les Paul and other humbucker PU equipped guitars are not only hotter than single coil PU equipped guitars, but their low end is so big that if not lowered in some way can easily cause unwanted bad distortion in the next thing in the chain. The POD models in particular are very sensitive (maybe too much) to strong bass frequencies in the input signal therefore I suggest to reduce their level as needed with the available controls to get a better balanced tone and a cleaner attack. If instead the problem is a kind of dissonant ghost notes that overlap the normal ones as they decay, the issue can be solved by lowering the amp models HUM parameter. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  18. Try the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo (Cali Tread), the amp used by Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Incubus, Korn, Metallica etc. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  19. I doubt very much that a firmware flashing procedure could physically damage a mainboard in any way. Unfortunately I don't know of any other ways to properly install the firmware on that device, but for me the problem is just that, and a Line6 technician would know how. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  20. The name of your problem is: Ground Loop Noise. If you are using a notebook try to disconnect it from the mains and use it on battery (probably the noise will disappear), or find and use a Ground Loop isolator/killer. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  21. The Cali diamond treadplate has never been modeled for the POD HD series, but has been included among all the stock models of the POD X3, and buying the Metal Shop model pack it can also be added to the POD XT and the POD Farm plugin. You can find it listed in the X3 model gallery: https://line6.com/data/6/0a060b316ac34f0593be902d6/application/pdf/POD X3 Model Gallery - English ( Rev B ).pdf Here is the description: 2001 Diamond Plate Based on* Channel 3 of a Mesa/Boogie® 2001 Triple Rectifier® Solo Head. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  22. Could it be that you have the global eq of the POD turned on with custom settings? In case you didn't know, the global eq is effective only on the live/direct sound of the analog standard outputs (headphones included), but not on the digital signal passing through the USB, nor on the playback. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  23. Are you sure you're not getting confused with the POD firmwares? I have used the 700 for years and I have a habit of saving the most important files in case I need them, including the various firmware versions of the devices I use, and I have never seen a version 1.31 for the Variax, while I know that it exists for the POD. As suggested by psarkissian maybe you should check with the workbench if all the settings are as they were in the past (before the reset) because maybe that's the real reason of your problem. For example, it could be that in the past through the workbench you had decreased the amount of (default) detuning between the pairs of strings in the 12-string models to obtain a less emphasized and more natural effect, but with the reset that customization was lost. (Before resetting it is always good to save the presets so that they can be reloaded quickly later). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  24. AFAIK unfortunately the POD HD300/400 don't have a safe mode (eg like the HD500) which can be specifically used to flash the firmware when the device is basically bricked, but only the Factory Reset mode (hold A while powering on) and Test mode (hold Tap while powering on). However you might want to try some of the proposed solutions I've read on a post on facebook written in thai language: How to Fix for Update Firmware Failure for POD HD300/400 By PHOLROCK I guess you'll need to use google translate, unless you are thai. I can't help more given that I use an HD500. Good luck. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
